Moat people assume the position coaches at state are really doing something, and who can argue with the continued defensive presence and offensive improvement this year. Most people do overlook thae fact that Michigan did not have a talent advantage when you consider experience with recruiting rating. MSU had some good recruiting classes when Rich Rod was recruiting different players and they were getting the in state recruits they wanted 4 aqnd 5 years ago, which made up a huge portion of their success the last few years.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-32464596501832532262014-01-24T11:32:47.647-05:002014-01-24T11:32:47.647-05:00But both Borges and Nuss are QB/OC coaches. But both Borges and Nuss are QB/OC coaches.suduri xusaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13514381713516547280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-44121560100468528502014-01-23T22:13:18.814-05:002014-01-23T22:13:18.814-05:00I'm under the assumption they got him more for...I'm under the assumption they got him more for recruiting reasons. I know you're probably right, since you're a coach and know a lot more than any of us about football, but I would've thought that Tight Ends and Wide Receivers would be flippedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-35964175687218310982014-01-23T17:07:05.319-05:002014-01-23T17:07:05.319-05:00Yeah. The standalone QB coach (just coaching 3~4 guys and only one can be on the field) might be a bit too much imo -- QB/OC makes more sense. What I don't really understand is why Michigan decided to go get two coaches for LB. I thought the LB coach was doing just fine with the kids, don't understand why Manning has to be added to the position.suduri xusaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13514381713516547280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-36630066212937580272014-01-23T15:46:05.041-05:002014-01-23T15:46:05.041-05:00Great post with a lot of good insight.
I'd sa...Great post with a lot of good insight.

I'd say that all of the defensive position coaches are pretty close, and there is a huge gap between the defensive coaches and the RB coach. Some could argue that the DB coach at the college level could be a little higher. There is a huge disparity in quality of DB play (playing the ball, tackling, disguising coverages) in major college football. Poor DB play is the sole reason Spurrier beat UM and Wiscy in back to back bowls. It's also tough because you are coordinating four or five guys, like on the OL.

The QB importance of the coach may be a little debatable too. If the guy is QB/OC, then it's definitely a huge factor. But for just a standalone QB coach, I'm not so sure of the impact. Some teams always have a good OL or DL and you can attribute that to coaching. But successful QB's seem to be more randomly linked with coaches.Painter Smurfnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-24093347929555195512014-01-23T11:17:30.372-05:002014-01-23T11:17:30.372-05:00Nice work.

Route running is something that needs to be taught and can make all the difference in the world. When to cut, double moves, there are a lot of things pure athleticism won't help you with. With running backs, I'd say it's a lot about instincts. Blocking is the most important thing a coach can teach a running back. But aside from blocking, you're not going to make Drake Johnson into Yeldon.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
