But RR did recruit a larger number of smaller, faster offensive skill-position guys than previous administrations, and likely more than the new administration. The offense simply required different skill sets in some spots.

On defense, though, I think the strategy (to the extent there WAS one) was not so much smaller guys as 'tweeners.' Craig Roh, Robinson, Carvin Johnson, the Gordons, etc. Which is fine, I suppose, until your team is composed of a group of guys who fit equally well at multiple positions, but no one is really suited for the position they end up taking.BISBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-10567444278297379102011-04-28T10:43:36.233-04:002011-04-28T10:43:36.233-04:00I was looking a year ahead (to the time in which M...I was looking a year ahead (to the time in which Michigan would have to decide on a 5th year for Brandon Moore), where the TE position would consist of Moore, a converted Ricardo Miller as a redshirt soph, Chris Barnett as a true soph, and whichever true freshmen sign. Not re-upping your only upperclassman TE, when beyond him you would only have two tight ends who have seen a college snap, seems unlikely.

As for RB size, I was only commenting on his fellow seniors. VSmith is obviously... uh, vertically challenged, and Teric Jones is far from a bruiser (he's listed at 5'9", but that seems generous). Cox is the only guy out of the senior class that I feel like would have been recruited by this staff, so I can't see them letting him go unless Hayes or Rawls turn out to be the kind of running backs Fred Jackson will claim them to be.BISBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-40349405154652657522011-04-27T23:04:39.510-04:002011-04-27T23:04:39.510-04:00@ David 10:59 p.m.

I could be mistaken.

My point was directed primarily towards players who are or were actually here, not recruiting strategy. Rodriguez brought in Hopkins and Rawls as well as Smith and (briefly) Hart.

The "hybrid" S/LB types don't factor positively into the meme IMO, purely because most were originally slated for safety.

Avery, Talbott, and Hollowell are (fairly) tiny. Brown, Turner, and Christian are not.

The meme applied to slot receivers is entirely accurate, of course, but it is a position where small, speedy guys excel.

This is not intended to be an attack on you. There will only be three retur...@ David 10:20 p.m.

There will only be three returning tight ends on the roster next year, which is what BISB is referring to: Moore, Barnett, and Miller (and Miller's only kind of a tight end, more of an H-back).

Furthermore, Michigan's recruiting strategy over the past few years doesn't back up your argument. Yes, Smith is the only diminutive running back Rodriguez brought in (assuming the 5'11", 185 lb. Toussaint doesn't count, and I admit he's a bit of a tweener). That doesn't change the fact that Demetrius Hart was committed to the Wolverines, and we were also recruiting guys like Devondrick Nealy, Prince Holloway, Malcolm Crockett, Shane Wynn, etc. Furthermore, Rodriguez also recruited a bunch of tiny slots like Jeremy Gallon, Drew Dileo, etc.

It's not a lazy meme. It's somewhat accurate, as long as you don't go overboard and say "He ONLY likes tiny midgets", which I haven't really seen anyone do. The fact is, midgets were a big part of his recruiting strategy, both on offense (see above) and defense (all the hybrid S/LB types, plus the tiny corners like Avery, Hollowell, and Talbott).Thunderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09708792562446136381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-58367910403378131932011-04-27T22:20:38.332-04:002011-04-27T22:20:38.332-04:00BISB:
