Otherwise, I think one. They will need a third good TE for depth purposes, but a fourth would be a luxury, but not a priority. It would really be nice if Hoke can bring in a stud TE in the next class. UM has a legit TE specialist in Ferigno and I would guess that would be a selling point.Painter Smurfnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-35072782418511101022012-02-05T14:51:52.481-05:002012-02-05T14:51:52.481-05:00When you take an elite quarterback you attract eli...When you take an elite quarterback you attract elite receivers. I see that as an indication that they want an inside type in this class as well. I would also be pretty shocked if they don't take at least 3 wide receivers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-18708860427036255742012-02-05T12:57:48.880-05:002012-02-05T12:57:48.880-05:00Yeah, that's 18. He's just not a scholarship player right now.

Isaiah Bell is listed as a LB on the official roster, which is more official than MGoBlog.

I think the coaching staff realizes that one of the SDE types they recruited in 2012 is going to end up at DT. My guess is Godin, although he's obviously been recruited to play the 5-tech.

From 2007 back to 2002 (which is when I stopped checking), Michigan had either 7 or 8 wide receivers on the roster. I didn't bother with 2008-2010, since slot receiver became a position during those years and somewhat distorts the numbers. So I think 7 or 8 receivers is more likely, and since 3 of those guys will be seniors in 2013, it might be better to err on the high side.Thunderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09708792562446136381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-89194879598190143442012-02-05T11:18:12.464-05:002012-02-05T11:18:12.464-05:00That's 18 magnus. He could come in and do some things.

If you're looking at mgoblog, they have Bell listed as a WDE. I hope he's not asked back for a 5th year, even if we don't need to free up the scholarship.
And then you get to OG depth, and apparently we'll only have 2 OG's on scholarship in 2013. I think Kalis is going to fit in at RG will, if not because that's where his talents are geared, then because of necessity. Either way, we're going to need another Kalis caliber guard prospect in 2013, or I'm going to remain worried.

I used to worry about DL depth, because I haven't really seen Ash, Q, Wilkins, or anyone step up and make a difference. But if the coaching staff only wanted to pursue one great DT, Pipkins, then I think that says something about the confidence they have in the players on scholarship now, so I try not to worry, and try to keep the faith in this coaching staff.

With how I think this staff would ultimately like to use TEs, I don't know if 8 WRs are a necessity. Borges has said he'd like to run an empty backfield, but the 5th WR could be a TE motioned out, or a RB motioned out. If that's the case, I'm comfortable with only 6, as long as they're all solid players. I miss having a ridiculously solid receiving corp, where all of our starters would be drafted. 2006 - Manningham, Arrington, Breaston. Or rewind a few years to 2004, with Breaston, Avant, Edwards. Those are the kind of WR corps I would like back at Michigan. And I don't think it's too far off, hopefully picking up Treadwell this year, and maybe another elite.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-26323112865135081182012-02-05T10:19:42.421-05:002012-02-05T10:19:42.421-05:00My guess would be 2TEs again, as they will still b...My guess would be 2TEs again, as they will still be pretty low on numbers if Borges wants to run 2 or even 3 TE sets at times. And the 18 listed here is definitely going to climb as transfers and such are an inevitability. I'd guess the class ends up at closer to 22-23, so with 2 TEs, that leaves another 2-3 spots open for whatever positions the coaches think they need more of, or can get a really good player at. Wouldn't be surprised to see 3 WRs, potentially 2 QBs, and another defensive end(Mattison really wants two full rotations on the DL).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2440694009017367434.post-17935485683149897752012-02-05T07:36:43.554-05:002012-02-05T07:36:43.554-05:00Tight End?Tight End?Roanmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12858054909964637938noreply@blogger.com
