What Could Have Been . . . Tate Forcier

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier

Tate Forcier has decided to become a Miami Hurricane.  On top of pulling in former Michigan commits Dallas Crawford, Matt Goudis, and Antonio Kinard, coach Al Golden now has a former starting QB.

The ACC seems like a better fit for Forcier.

  1. I'm interested to know your thoughts behind Focier being a "better fit" for the ACC. In an Al Borges offense, it seems like Forcier would actually be the better fit at QB, despite Robinson being the better player, overall. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure why he was dismissed by the staff and would appreciate any insights.

  2. He means that the ACC is SOFT. Probably not, but it's true.

  3. Forcier is going to need the right kind of coach to flourish. It will have to be a guy who is good at managing egos without letting them get out of control. e.g. a guy like Bobby Petrino.

  4. Seems like a bad cultural fit to me. I bet it is easier to get distracted and in trouble at Miami than in Ann Arbor. Hopefully, his maturity has gone up since his academic and athletic humbling in Ann Arbor. If he can ever develop a comfort level sitting in the pocket and not bailing on every play, I think he could be very good. That may be a tall task though.

I just think the ACC - talent wise - is a better fit for Forcier's size and skill set. There's more talent in the Big Ten, so maybe he can hang in the ACC without working very hard, since he doesn't like to work hard.

He wasn't dismissed by the staff. He was dismissed because he was academically ineligible.

  6. Painter Smurf,

It depends on what you mean by "distracted and in trouble."

I love living in Ann Arbor, but we have our fair share of problems. My laptop was stolen out of my room in my house last November despite two of my housemates being home at the time. People know college kids have expensive electronics and citizens and students are more likely to leave their doors unlocked in a liberal city like Ann Arbor.

What would Tate be distracted by? Probably women, parties, and the fucking cold weather, seeing as he's a California golden boy. Women and parties are probably easier to find, but the weather distraction is no longer a problem. Maybe that means Tate will find more motivation to practice year-round by himself, which may or may not keep him out of trouble.
