  1. How the holy hell does John Chavis win top assistant over Mattison?

Mattison did a great job, but you can't really argue with Chavis. LSU has a great defense. They're #3 in rush defense and pass effeciency defense, #2 in in total defense and scoring defense, #13 in sacks, and #1 in turnover margin. Mattison made a big improvement for Michigan, but Michigan did just give up 34 points to a mediocre Ohio State team with a true freshman quarterback. The most points LSU gave up this season was 27...and that was to an offensive powerhouse in the form of Oregon.

  3. Yes Thunder, but the argument can be made that Mattison did a lot more with less (no disrespect to any of the current players). LSU's D is stacked with guys that will be playing on Sundays.

I agree, but to some extent, I think our judgment is being clouded by just how BAD our defensive coaching was for the past few seasons. These are the exact same guys that finished #108 (or 112 or whatever) last year, except for a couple changes like Jonas Mouton, Obi Ezeh, and James Rogers, the latter two of whom were largely non-factors.

Michigan actually has some talent on defense. Mattison made that talent successful. Chavis took more talent...and made it awesome.

  5. Wow, 2x Biletnikoff winner Justin Blackmon... very impressive. They're becoming MSU-like in their ability to churn out excellent WR's (except lets hope these guys don't flame out in the pros like MSU WR's tend to do).

  6. Congratulations to David Molk.

He has been a great Wolverine.

Here's hoping he makes some money playing on Sunday, comes out of it healthy and in a position to afford a shirt that fits him around the neck.
