BTN.com: Dienhart - Best is yet to come for this program

Tom Dienhart and the BTN crew got to watch practice today, and here's a collection of thoughts relayed by Dienhart. Take them with a grain of salt, but it's the best we've got for now.

Hit the jump for a curious looking swimsuit.

  1. Yes, with a big grain of salt. Not that all of what he's saying is BS, but his reporting is fairly uncritical and not based on much at this point. The fact that players are ripped or chiseled or look like great physical specimens doesn't really mean a great deal with regard to how this team will do against real competition..all the teams we'll play have big, strong guys too, strangely enough.

He seems to be seeing what he wants to see at this point, and telling championship-starved Michigan fans what he knows they're dying to hear.
But while this team has a lot of potential, I think we'll really have to wait for the test against real competition before we can know how these guys will pan out. At this point, there are just too many uncertainties.

    1. Think back to watching Rodriguez-coached teamed on the field vs Ohio. The first thing to stand out should be the physical difference and the size of the players. It matters. NFL scouts are drooling over some of these guys...they know a little bit about passing the eye test

  2. The secondary looks like the strongest area on the defense."

    1. Well, there are only three options - DL, LB, and DB. We're missing our best linebacker (Jake Ryan), and nobody except Quinton Washington has been an established starter. The defensive backs almost have to be the most cohesive unit by default, because there are two or three returning starters at cornerback (depending on how you view Courtney Avery), one returning starter at safety (Thomas Gordon), and the lone new starter played quite a bit last year (Jarrod Wilson).
