Poll Results: What to do with Cam Gordon?
Several weeks ago, I asked the question, "What should be done with [then free safety] Cameron Gordon in 2011?"
29% said move him to Spur
22% said keep him as starting free safety
20% said move him to linebacker
15% said move him to Bandit
6% said replace him with Troy Woolfolk at free safety
3% said "Other"
1% said move him back to wide receiver
I would like to know what the idea behind "Other" is. If anyone remembers voting or has any ideas that I didn't list, please feel free to leave a comment. I'm curious. I can only think of maybe moving him to tight end or defensive end as further options, but maybe there are other lines of thought.
Anyway, assuming the 3-3-5 defense continues to be run at Michigan, I think Spur is a good spot for Gordon. For those keeping track, Gordon was moved to Spur for the Penn State game several weeks ago. That isn't to say that Gordon will remain there next season (he played WR as a freshman, FS for half a year, and is now at Spur, so position changes are frequent), but that seems to be the train of thought right now.
If Michgan converts to a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme is he big enough to be a conventional OLB?
ReplyDeleteHe's big enough to play OLB in a 4-3. He would have to bulk up to play in a 3-4, in my opinion. But no matter what, I expect him to put on 10-15 pounds in the off-season.
ReplyDeleteI think it's pretty much impossible to think that the 3-3-5 will be back next year if a new Defensive staff is implemented (with or without Rich Rod). If we do go to say a 4-3 Defense, do you think that Gordon would be the projected starter for that 3rd backer spot, next to Demens and I'm assuming Fitz?

ReplyDeleteYes, I would pencil in Gordon for that third 'backer spot.
IMO its hard to say who the 3rd LB would be after Demens and Gordon. Fitzgerald has not impressed and seemed to play a lot of rush-end. M.Jones looked like the top backup LB before he got hurt. Herron was getting significant time behind Roh, before he got hurt. Then theres a long list of other backups any of which could make a leap...It could be any of these guys and it could change based on scheme too. My guess: Mike Jones starts.
ReplyDeleteI voted other...
ReplyDeleteAt the time I thought it would be better to keep him at FS and let him COMPETE for the starting spot. Not automatically bestow the that role.
Anyway, that was my reason.
I recall voting for "other." At the time, I had been hoping to move him to place kicker.
ReplyDeleteAt least in conjunction with his defensive responsibilities.
