-Am terrified by ND's offense next week with Rees behind center. Our D couldn't do squat for most of the game against a solid but unspectacular run game (especially on the counter) so you can bet we'll see a lot more of that counter this weekend.
-Hopefully if we actually never put Floyd in single coverage we'll force the rest of the ND team to beat us, which they very well may. I have little faith in a CB and a safety on this defense to properly cover Floyd, though, so I don't think he'll be completely quiet. Carvin was in the wrong place several times, Gordon got beat pretty bad on a bad throw by Carder, Floyd got torched as well and got pretty lucky, as did Avery when he wasn't looking back and almost caught a PI. All in all, fingers crossed.
Why does nobody remember that we held Floyd to 3 catches last year without Woolfolk?
Floyd got a bit lucky, Avery's wasn't PI by a mile and was in fact a fantastic play.
I still fail to see why there's this freakout going on in the blogosphere concerning Notre Dame. They're a good team on paper, but it's not like we're playing mid-decade USC.
I disagree with point #3. I think the secondary played fairly well. Good teams still get beaten at times, but it takes good receivers and a good quarterback to take advantage. WMU has a pretty good quarterback, but the line didn't give him time. Michigan's secondary isn't great, but they played better in the WMU game than they have in a long time.
That being said...I agree with point #2. Not because of the defensive backs, but because of the lack of a pass rush. Sending too many blitzes is bound to bite Michigan in the butt at some point. We need to get more of a pass rush from the down linemen.
I don't see a freakout. What I do see is a genuine concern that Notre Dame might pass the ball all over the place. Rees put up 296 yards in one half last week, and Carder had a pretty good game until his offensive line fell apart. My guess is that Notre Dame's OL is better than WMU's so there's reason for apprehension.
It's not a lost cause, but I think it's going to be a tough game.
