Four redshirt juniors won't return in 2012

According to head coach Brady Hoke, running back Michael Cox, center Rocko Khoury, long snapper George Morales, and wide receiver Terrence Robinson will not return for their redshirt senior seasons in 2012.

I guess this means Khoury won't be winning that center position.  This makes Michigan painfully thin at center, with only fifth year senior Ricky Barnum and redshirt freshman Jack Miller the only scholarship centers on the roster.  Fifth year senior Elliott Mealer has some experience snapping the ball, but only in practice.

  1. Brady Hoke can be VERY persuasive. I have to assume he did not try all that hard to get these kids to stay. I would certainly be concerned at the center position. All it takes is a tweaked ankle and you are down to one guy.

On the other hand, I think there are plenty of guys on the roster who are at least as good as TRob and Cox, and I have to admit I had never heard of Morales at all.

    1. On the contrary, I bet the players just saw the writing on the wall and decided to be done. Do you think he wants to be so thin at center now that Khoury's gone?

Morales was controversial a few years ago because it was reported that he was offered a scholarship as a long snapper, but Michigan really could have used that scholarship for another position. He never played a single down for Michigan, AFAIK.

  2. What will this do to our 2013 Recruiting Class are we at 22 or 24 now?

    1. It doesn't affect 2013 recruiting. These guys were going to be gone after 2012, anyway. Officially, we're still sitting at 19.

  3. I wonder if Cox / Khoury / Robinson will bother exploring a 5th year (a la Bryan Wright) at another school?

Also, time flies. Seems like just the other day that I was watching Robinson's "dream shake" on YouTube ... also, I really wished he would have scored on the last play of UTL.

  4. Hey Thunder:
You think Dan Gibbs is to big to be a center? He is a really smart kid and has good size for the o-line; he might be to big! Walk-on to scholarship?

    1. If he's truly 6'7", then yes, I think he's too big. I'm not a big fan of his abilities, either.

    2. I was thinking he is the size of Konz from Wisconsin.
