NFL Draft Scout: 2013 Draft - Michigan preview

NFL Draft Scout discusses the top five pro prospects from Michigan for the 2013 NFL Draft.  It's pretty amazing that the top two draft-eligible players from Michigan come from the same high school . . . in Arizona.

  1. My eyes have grazed over this post a few times now. I'm sure I'll make it down to the text portion of the post eventually.

    1. I know...the ads are pretty distracting, aren't they?

  2. Craig Roh at the #2 position? Unfortunately, that speaks to how "meh" the talent level is at UM right now. I seriously doubt he will get drafted, nor will Kovacs and Floyd.

Denard is the only Senior who will get drafted IMO. If Lewan and Toussaint leave early, I think they will get drafted as well.

  3. That seems high for Roh, who hasn't produced all that much. Maybe that's just unreasonable expectations talking but he hasn't looked very quick at WDE. He does have the size now that you want in an NFL end, but lets see that translate to production before we talk about him getting drafted above Denard. I know it sounds hypocritical to criticize Roh for production while I say this, but I think Campbell is the more attractive NFL prospect due to his raw size and athleticism.

If I was making the list it'd be like so:

    1. Lewan
    2. Denard
    3. Toussaint
    4. Schofield (not Lewan but still an NFL tackle, potentially)
    5. Omameh (a 4-year starter in the Big10 usually translates to playing in the NFL)

    6. Campbell
    7. Roh
    8. Barnum (injury concerns, but talented player with good size)
    9. Hopkins (if he embraces blocking, he could be an NFL FB)
    10. Demens

I don't think Roundtree or Kovacs will get camp invites. I think Floyd has NFL size, but not NFL athleticism.

Hagerup should probably be on that list too, as high as 4th. If he returns to form, he's an NFL talent.

    1. I disagree...so hard. Kovacs will get a camp invite, I'd bet. So will Floyd, even though I'm not a fan of his abilities.

I don't see how you put Hopkins and Barnum above Kovacs and Floyd.

I agree with your top three. After that our opinions diverge.

    2. Agree that Floyd will get an invite. Don't think he'll make it past that.

Don't care how great his instincts are, you need a certain minimum of athleticism to be an NFL DB and I don't think Kovacs has it. Some guys are great high school players but their ability is maxed out at that level and it doesn't translate to the higher level. Even the CBS article talks about him as a special teamer - which is hard to get drafted for if you don't have elite athleticism. Maybe he gets a camp invite somewhere.

I think Hopkins has NFL size and solid athleticism for a FB.

Barnum is a talented guy, who has been held back by injury. I think Schofield's definitely headed to the NFL and Barnum was better than him last year, when healthy.

Pretty subjective exercise though....even NFL scouts probably wouldn't agree.
