AnnArbor.com: Equipment manager Jon Falk will retire after 2013 season

Jon Falk, who wrote If These Walls Could Talk, the story of his time as Michigan's equipment manager, will retire at the end of the 2013 season. Hopefully, the team can end his career on a high note.

  1. If These Walls Could Talk is a better than average summer book, at least for your garden variety Wolverine.

It's certainly a hellova lot less infuriating than Three and Out.

Which causes me to think that a reading list is over due, as I'm almost through Mark Twain's the Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant which is well worth the time. The language is old, but it's Twain for sure and moves along nicely, leaving out for the most part Grant's youth and Presidency in favor of his experiences in the two wars he fought.

If you like American history, it's probably a must.

    1. The book is about what you'd expect from the long-time equipment manager of a football team. There are some good stories in there, but it gets a little bit repetitive. It's kind of like listening to your grandpa talk - interesting and fun, but a little laborious.

    2. It is best read with beer, at the cottage during camp.

  2. To be clear, Mark Twain is the publisher of this work, he edited it for sure, there are some who think he ghost wrote it as Grant was dying of Cancer at the time of it's writing and indeed did die five days after delivering the manuscript. I consider Twain to have been an aggressive editor of Grant's story.
