Ex-Wolverine Updates

Marvin Robinson
CB Greg Brown: Brown is listed as a 5'11", 202 lb. cornerback for Iowa Central, a junior college. I have been unable to find any game statistics.

S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien had 2 tackles for Toledo in a 38-23 loss to Missouri.

S Carvin Johnson: Johnson had 10 tackles for Hampton in a 31-7 loss to William & Mary.

LB Kaleb Ringer:
Ringer, now a backup at Ferris State, had 3 tackles in a 56-10 loss to North Dakota State.

DC Greg Robinson: Robinson, who had been working as a consultant for the Texas Longhorns, replaced Longhorns defensive coordinator Manny Diaz after the embarrassing weekend loss to BYU in which Texas allowed 550 rushing yards.

WR Jerald Robinson: Robinson, now at D-II Walsh College University, had 7 receptions for 47 yards and 2 touchdowns against Edinboro in a 35-34 loss.

S Marvin Robinson: Robinson, playing linebacker in a 4-4 defense at Ferris State, had 10 tackles and 1 interception in his debut. FSU lost by a score of 56-10 to North Dakota State, however.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez: Arizona beat UNLV by a score of 58-13. Running back Ka'Deem Carey had 16 carries for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Wildcats are now 2-0.

DL coach Bruce Tall: Tall, Michigan's former defensive line coach under Rich Rodriguez, is now the defensive coordinator at Charlotte. The 49ers have given up 7 points in each of their two games and are now 2-0.

CB Adrian Witty: Witty had 3 tackles for Cincinnati, but the Bearcats lost to Illinois by a score of 45-17. Also in the game, former Michigan recruiting target Munchie Legaux suffered a terrible knee injury and will miss the remainder of the year.

  1. I try like hell to avoid disparaging people as I am a strong believer in both words and kharma, but I just gotta take a chance here.

How on earth does Gerg do it?

What could he possibly be consulting on?

Why would anybody, anywhere give a rat's patootie about anything he could possibly have to offer on the subject of winning at D1, major college football?

Does he have photos of somebody doing something they shouldn't have been doing?

    What? ....... Why?

    Seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. I don't know, but I'm impressed with his abilities.

  2. A lot of Michigan fans are going to be shocked when Texas' D isn't a disaster.

GERG is not a good coach, but he's not the imbecile M fans make him out to be. The 2010 D was a house of horrors that no coordinator could have worked with, certainly not with Rodriguez's incompetent defensive assistants weighing things down and trying to run a 3-3-5 because that's all they know.

    1. They seem to be doing alright at Arizona. Incompetence is a funny way of putting it. I'm legitimately curious, what criteria are you basing their incompetence on?

    2. Arizona was #118 in total defense and #102 in scoring defense last year, which was Rodriguez's first year (and when his staff included Tony Gibson).

Now there are ZERO defensive assistants at Arizona that were at Michigan. Tall is at Charlotte, Greg Robinson is at Texas, Gibson is back at WVU, Hopson is at Alcorn State, Shafer is at Syracuse, and what's-his-name is coaching at a D-II school, I believe.

    3. Schafer has had pretty good defenses everywhere else he was a DC. GERG wasn't good, but I don't think he's utterly incompetent like his Michigan experience would indicate. Two respected proven coordinators stunk it up at Michigan. Why? I blame the common element -- the crappy assistants.

As Thunder points out, they've all gone on to do squat elsewhere: Gibson, Hopson, Tall, Braithwhite.

Rodriguez thought it was a good idea to hire or keep this guys - he was wrong, and it was his undoing, more than anything else, IMO.

    4. To play devil's advocate here, two respected proven coordinators stunk it up at Michigan. Why? You could blame the other common element - the players.

Saying Arizona's defense stunk it up last year with all new coaches (excluding Gibson) just makes me think it could be another common element - the head coach.

What's his name would be the linebackers coach who was the graduate assistant they moved up if I remember correctly - Braithwaite? Some D-II experience could be real good for him rather than being thrown into the fire from a GA to a position coach at Michigan.

Either way, I am curious to see how Greg Robinson performs at Texas. They have a plethora of talent. Ole Miss at Texas is going to be a fun one to watch..

  3. Wow. I did not know Illinois ran it up on Cincinnati like that. I am becomming very curious as to just how bad Purdue is.

  4. Just want to say thank you for this feature. It's fun keeping track of these guys who we followed since high school and who we once saw as the future of our program. That goes for old coaches as well who were once part of our Michigan family.

    1. You're welcome. I think it's fun to follow these guys. Unfortunately (for this feature, anyway), attrition seems to be slowing somewhat with Hoke at the helm, so there might not be as many guys to follow in the next couple years.

    2. You can keep following them in the NFL...oh wait.

There's always Rich Rod and his staff - they'll be around for a while.

  5. Thanks for doing this - a not-that-important note, but I teach at Walsh University - we haven't been a College for a number of years. I was at the game, and Jerald's first touchdown was a thing of beauty, a jump ball that he went and got, barely getting a toe in for the touchdown.

    1. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that about Walsh.
