2015 BBQ at the Big House Visitors

Detroit (MI) King wide receiver Donnie Corley
Michigan's coaching staff will be holding the annual BBQ at the Big House on August 2, 2015. The tradition was started by Rich Rodriguez and has normally been held in July, so this is a later date than normal. It could get interesting seeing how many players can travel from a long distance, because high school football practices usually begin at the start of August. Regardless, there are several players scheduled to attend, including a posse from Maryland and the New Jersey area.

2016
Ben Bredeson - OT - Hartland (WI) Arrowhead: Bredeson committed to Michigan in June (LINK).

Donnie Corley - WR - Detroit (MI) King: Corley is a 6'2", 180 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee, and USC, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #18 wide receiver, and #114 overall. Reports differ on how seriously he is considering Michigan, but Michigan State and Tennessee seem to be high on his list.

Terrance Davis - OG - Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha: Davis is a 6'4", 305 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, and Michigan, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #2 offensive guard, and #76 overall. He has been rumored to be a silent commit to Michigan, but Maryland and others are in the mix. UPDATE: Davis did not make it to Ann Arbor.

Hit the jump for several more prospects, including kids all the way through the class of 2019.

Kiante Enis - RB - Winchester (IN) Winchester: Enis committed to Michigan in June (LINK).

Chris Evans - WR - Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis: Evans committed to Michigan in June (LINK).

Matt Falcon - RB - Southfield (MI) Southfield: Falcon committed to Michigan in April (LINK).

Rashan Gary - DT - Paramus (NJ) Catholic: Gary is a 6'4", 311 lb. prospect with offers from all over the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Michigan, which seem to be the front-runners. He's the #1 overall player in the country. Gary has visited Michigan multiple times, and have even been rumored to be in the driver's seat. His former coach, Chris Partridge, is now Michigan's recruiting coordinator. UPDATE: He will not be able to attend since he has a conflict with an ACT prep class.

Brad Hawkins, Jr. - WR - Camden (NJ) Camden: Hawkins committed to Michigan in July (LINK).

Lavert Hill - CB - Detroit (MI) King: Hill is a 5'10", 166 lb. prospect who committed to Penn State in January. He also has offers from Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and UCLA, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #9 cornerback, and #112 overall. He transferred from Detroit (MI) Cass Tech and is the younger brother of Michigan safety Delano Hill.

Ron Johnson, Jr. - DE - Camden (NJ) Camden: Johnson committed to Michigan in June (LINK).

Carlo Kemp - DE - Boulder (CO) Fairview: Kemp is a 6'3", 255 lb. prospect with offers from Colorado, Michigan, Notre Dame, and others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #17 strongside end, and #289 overall. Michigan is recruiting him as a Buck linebacker, although he looks more like a strongside end to me. Though he's fairly quiet about his recruitment, he's considered to be a Notre Dame lean and also likes Michigan.

Ahmir Mitchell - WR - Egg Harbor City (NJ) Cedar Creek: Mitchell is a 6'3", 206 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Rutgers, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 athlete, and #79 overall. The Wolverines are reported to be the leader, and Michigan leads with 87% of the Crystal Ball predictions so far.

Michael Onwenu - OG - Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Onwenu committed to Michigan in June (LINK).

Brandon Peters - QB - Avon (IN) Avon: Peters committed to Michigan in April (LINK).

Armani Posey - WR - Detroit (MI) King: Posey is a 6'1", 180 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He is probably not a serious prospect for Michigan, but he does have potential to get some lower-level FBS offers, and Michigan is trying to make inroads at King.

David Reese - LB - Farmington (MI) Farmington: Reese committed to Michigan in April (LINK). Since then the coaching staff has told Reese that he can play linebacker rather than being viewed as a probable fullback.

Sir Patrick Scott - CB - Upper Marlboro (MD) Riverside Baptist: Scott is a 6'1", 175 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin, among others. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #41 cornerback, and #462 overall. His lone Crystal Ball prediction is in favor of Wake Forest.

Jonathan Smith - LB - Laurinburg (NC) Scotland County: Smith is a 6'1", 220 lb. prospect with offers from Duke, Michigan, North Carolina, and Notre Dame, among others. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #25 inside linebacker, and #642 overall. He has four Crystal Ball picks for North Carolina, but zero for any other school.

Erik Swenson - OT - Downers Grove (IL) South: Swenson committed to Michigan in November of 2013 (LINK). He's now a 247 Composite 4-star, the #19 offensive tackle, and #178 overall.

Erroll Thompson - LB - Florence (AL) Florence: Thompson is a 6'2", 240 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi State, and others. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #17 inside linebacker, and #524 overall. His Crystall Balls are 88% in favor of Mississippi State at this point. UPDATE: Thompson recently committed to Mississippi State.

Naseir Upshur - TE - Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep:
Upshur is a 247 Composite 4-star, the #4 tight end, and #139 overall. I wrote a scouting report on him in April (LINK). His top teams appear to be Arizona State, Florida State, Maryland, and Michigan with the Wolverines looking like they're out in front. UPDATE: Upshur will not be attending the BBQ.

Johncarlo Valentin - OG - Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep: Valentin is a 6'5", 290 lb. prospect with offers from Auburn, Michigan, and Virginia Tech, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #12 offensive guard, and #325 overall. A teammate of Upshur's, they are not a package deal but Valentin also has pretty serious interest in Michigan. There are mixed feelings about Valentin's chances of joining Michigan's class, because the Wolverines might be running out of spots on the offensive line.

Terrell Vassel - CB - Wayne (NJ) De Paul: Vassel is a 6'1", 190 lb. prospect with offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, and a couple others. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #102 cornerback, and #1162 overall. Michigan has not really been involved with his recruitment, but he is friends with some of the players Michigan is recruiting in New Jersey. He's also a teammate of 2016 running back Kareem Walker (Ohio State).

2017
Corey Bolds - DE - Paramus (NJ) Catholic: Bolds is a 6'3", 260 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Rutgers, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #16 defensive tackle, and #217 overall. Michigan initially offered him as a defensive end, although he has the size to potentially be a defensive tackle at the next level. UPDATE: Bolds will not be at the BBQ.

Carter Dunaway - TE - Bloomfield Hills (MI) Brother Rice: Dunaway committed to Michigan in April (LINK).

Ja'Raymond Hall - OT - Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: Hall is a 6'5", 255 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Penn State, and some MAC programs. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #30 offensive tackle, and #219 overall. His presumed leader is Michigan.

K.J. Hamler - WR - Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary's: Hamler is a 5'9", 155 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #57 cornerback, and #345 overall. He is considered to be a Michigan State lean.

Derrick Hubbard - LB - Ann Arbor (MI) Pioneer: Hubbard is a 6'2", 202 lb. prospect with an offer from Toledo. As a sophomore in 2014, he made 58 tackles and 5 sacks.

Jaylen Kelly-Powell - S - Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Kelly-Powell is a 6'0", 183 lb. prospect with offers from Duke, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Northwestern, among others. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #23 safety, and #340 overall. He has stated that his leader is Michigan.

Corey Malone-Hatcher - DE - St. Joseph (MI) St. Joseph: Malone-Hatcher is a 6'3", 235 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Penn State, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #13 weakside end, and #260 overall. He and his family have connections to the state of Alabama, and the Wolverines and Crimson Tide seem to be the front-runners. Here's a link to some video of his off-season workouts (LINK).

Donovan Peoples-Jones - WR - Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Peoples-Jones is a 6'2", 192 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State, among others. He's a 247 Composite 5-star, the #2 wide receiver, and #16 overall. He recently won the SPARQ national championship at Nike's The Opening in Oregon. Some insiders believe Michigan leads, but Ohio State has the plurality of Crystal Ball picks with 45%. UPDATE: Peoples-Jones did not make it to the BBQ.

Joshua Ross - LB - Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary's: Ross is a 6'1", 210 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #4 inside linebacker, and #134 overall. He is the younger brother of Michigan senior linebacker James Ross III, and the Wolverines have 100% of his Crystal Ball picks.

Cesar Ruiz - C - Camden (NJ) Camden: Ruiz is a 6'4", 290 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Penn State, and Rutgers, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #1 center, and #212 overall. He is a teammate of 2016 Michigan commits Hawkins and Johnson.

Antjuan Simmons - RB - Ann Arbor (MI) Pioneer: Simmons is a 6'1", 205 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois and a bunch of MAC schools. He's currently unranked, but I think he is one of the top few players in the state in his class. He could also play safety or linebacker, and while he's a bit of a tweener, he's just a good all-around football player.

Drew Singleton - LB - Paramus (NJ) Catholic: Singleton is a 6'2", 215 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and Ohio State, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #12 outside linebacker, and #201 overall. So far 100% of his Crystal Ball projections have him going to Michigan. UPDATE: Singleton is no longer attending the BBQ.

Allen Stritzinger - RB - Warren (MI) De La Salle: Stritzinger is a 6'0", 180 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Michigan, and several MAC programs. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #26 running back, and #331 overall. He has stated that Michigan is his leader.

Kurt Taylor - RB - Covington (GA) Newton: Taylor is a 5'9", 200 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Rutgers, and Vanderbilt, among others. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #32 running back, and #414 overall. He claims a 4.48 forty.

Ambry Thomas - CB - Detroit (MI) King: Thomas is a 5'11", 165 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #11 cornerback, and #131 overall. He is thought to be leaning toward Michigan State.

J'Marick Woods - S - Florence (AL) Florence: Woods is a 6'4", 196 lb. prospect with offers from Kentucky and Michigan. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #31 athlete, and #302 overall. Michigan was his first offer. He is a teammate of Erroll Thompson's.

2018
Jayson Ademilola - DE - Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter's Prep: Ademilola is a 6'3", 260 lb. prospect with offers from Connecticut, Miami, Michigan, and Rutgers, among others.

Justin Ademilola - LB - Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter's Prep: Ademilola is a 6'3", 225 lb. prospect with offers from Connecticut, Michgian, Rutgers, and Virginia, among others.

Emil Ekiyor, Jr. - OG - Indianapolis (IN) Cathedral: Ekiyor is a 6'3", 285 lb. prospect with offers from Kentucky, Michigan, and South Florida. His father was a defensive end at USF and in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons. The Wolverines are thought to be the early leaders.

Kalon Gervin - CB - Detroit (MI) King: Gervin is a 5'11", 170 lb. prospect with offers from Akron and Toledo. He transferred from Detroit (MI) Cass Tech to King prior to his sophomore season, so he will be a teammate of Corley and Thomas, among others, this fall.

El Julian Jordan - QB - Detroit (MI) King: "Ju Ju" is a 6'1", 204 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. King was supposed to have a senior Mikale Washington playing quarterback, but he transferred to Midlothian (VA) Clover Hill this off-season (after coming to King from San Diego, CA). That leaves the offense in the hands of Jordan, who will have an array of FBS talent as a supporting cast.

Marquan McCall - OG - Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: McCall is a 6'3", 280 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Michigan, and some MAC schools. He is a teammate of 2017 offensive tackle Ja'Raymond Hall and earned an offer after the Sound Mind Sound Body camp this summer.

Bartek Rybka - LB - Paramus (NJ) Catholic: Rybka is a 6'2", 230 lb. prospect with offers from Akron and Rutgers. He is a teammate of Gary, Bolds, Singleton, Allan Walters, and other Michigan targets. Unlike most of the Paramus Catholic group, he is actually following through with the trip.

Allan Walters - QB - Paramus (NJ) Catholic: Walters is a 6'2", 200 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Rutgers, among others. He may not be able to attend. UPDATE: Walters, like the rest of the Paramus players, will not be attending the BBQ.

2019
Devontae Dobbs - DE - Belleville (MI) Belleville: Dobbs is a 6'4", 230 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

Samuel Johnson III - QB - Southfield (MI) Southfield: Johnson is a 6'3", 180 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati and several MAC programs. He attended Jim Harbaugh's Aerial Assault camp this summer.

Dwan Mathis - QB - Belleville (MI) Belleville: Mathis is a 6'3", 180 lb. prospect with offers from Akron and Cincinnati. He also attended the Aerial Assault camp this summer.

Tyrece Woods - LB - Detroit (MI) King: Woods is a 6'2", 200 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. As an eighth grader in 2014, he made 75 tackles, 15 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and 1 interception on defense, adding 15 catches for 500 yards on offense for his PAL team. This will be his first season of high school ball.

  1. It might be greedy of me, but I don't care. Davis, Gary, Mitchell and Upshur are the four I have wanted from the beginning.

I'm thinking that Lavert Hill could be that field corner Thunder is wanting.

  2. With all of these stud linemen potentially in the class, is Onwenu a viable Plan B at DT if we don't land Gary?

    1. IDK but I really love Onwenu at the guard spot. I get all kinds of man crush thinking about him lining up on the left side with Cole...

  3. These instate kids with USC or Alabama offers... I'd love to see us keep those kids home.

It may not mean anything in the end, but PSU fans can't like Hill hanging out in AA that much.

    1. Hill is suposedly a MSU v PSU battle at this point. So they probably dislike his 3 visits to EL the past few months more. UM might have an outside chance but the theory is if Corley goes MSU Hill's chances of flipping increase. Not sure why Corley is going to AA other than free food...thats basically what the MSU boards say about his visit.

  4. Hope we can continue to solidify ourselves with Evans as I like him and dont want to see him flip to Notre Dame which is his dream offer.

  6. Is 2017 QB Cam Thomas from IL on the invite list. If not, he should be. He is the kid that won the autographed football from all the coaches at the Ann Arbor Aerial Assault A4. He was on top of the leaderboard most of the day.

  7. Alabama has been all over the state of Michigan for 4/5 years now, and I'm not talking about football. Two people have told me that they have a full time recruiter located along the I-96 corridor somewhere, chasing academic kids. They grabbed off a science kid in our sub with a full ride who had a 4.2 at Chippewa and went hard after a couple Romeo kids that had big grades. I've seen two "Alabama Bound" yard signs in my travels around the East side this year, one in Ike's district, the other probably Rochester Adams. Evidently they are attempting to leverage their football success into better kids in their science and math programs.
