S Jaylen Kelly-Powell (Akron): Kelly-Powell did not play in a 56-7 loss to Buffalo.

DE Aaron Lewis (Rutgers): Lewis made 1 tackle, 0.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks in a 27-24 win over Maryland.

WR Oliver Martin (Nebraska): Martin made 1 catch for 22 yards in a 24-17 loss to Minnesota.

TE Mustapha Muhammad (Kilgore Junior College): Muhammad transferred from Michigan to Houston and is now at Kilgore Junior College, which has canceled its season due to COVID.

QB Brandon Peters (Illinois): Peters completed 3/14 passes for 21 yards and ran 2 times for 8 yards in a 28-10 loss to Northwestern.

CB Myles Sims (Georgia Tech): Sims did not play in a 24-10 loss to Pitt.

LB Drew Singleton (Rutgers): Singleton played but did not record any stats in a 27-24 win over Maryland.

DT Aubrey Solomon (Tennessee): Solomon made 1 quarterback hurry in a 42-17 win over Vanderbilt.

OG Stephen Spanellis (Vanderbilt): Spanellis opted out of the 2020 season.

CB Benjamin St-Juste (Minnesota): St-Juste made 3 tackles in a 24-17 win over Nebraska.

RB Kareem Walker (Mississippi State): Walker entered the transfer portal and is leaving Mississippi State.

S J'Marick Woods (Duke): Woods did not play in a 56-35 loss to Florida State.

FORMER COMMITS

RB Tim Baldwin (Indiana): Indiana (6-1) had a bye.

WR Kalil Branham (Kentucky): Kentucky had a bye.

CB Te'Cory Couch (Miami): Couch made 6 tackles in a 62-26 loss to North Carolina.

OT Devery Hamilton (Duke): Hamilton started at right tackle in a 56-35 loss to Florida State.

OT Kai-Leon Herbert (Miami): Herbert is out for the season for Miami.

WR Jeremiah Holloman (FIU): FIU went 0-5 this season. Holloman made 8 catches for 108 yards and 1 touchdown.

Amauri Pesek-Hickson (Kansas): Kansas (0-9) had a bye.

S Otis Reese (Ole Miss): Reese is redshirting at Ole Miss after transferring from Georgia.

Scot Loeffler (Head Coach, Bowling Green State): BGSU's game was canceled, leaving the team at 0-5 for the season.

Les Miles (Head Coach, Kansas): Kansas's final regular season game was canceled due to COVID. The team finished at 0-9. As of Sunday, Miles had not been fired.

Chris Partridge (C-Defensive Coordinator, Ole Miss): Ole Miss (4-4) had a bye.

Rod Smith (Offensive Coordinator Head Coach, Illinois): Smith was elevated to head coach after Lovie Smith was fired on Sunday, after the team finished at 2-5 during the regular season. Smith will serve as head coach for "Champions Week."

  1. Nice to see Walker get through his academic issues and end up graduating from Miss St. I'm sure this isn't the path he intended but good he didn't give up.

  2. Michigan perspective on Illinois - Denard's QB coach is now coaching Brandon Peters.

  3. It's been a strange almost decade since Brady Hoke beat Luke Fickel in 2011.

  4. They really botched the Swenson and Weaver recruitments.

    1. Weaver, yes. Swenson, not so much. I watched a couple Oklahoma games, and he was not good. He rotated a lot with a true freshman. Hayes and Mayfield are both better, and I'm guessing Swenson would have transferred by now.

He's better than who ended up starting for Michigan at left tackle (Barnhart), but waiting five years for him to be better than a nondescript redshirt freshman is...not worth it.

    2. I think the mistake is in HOW it was handled. Just another example of the Harbaugh staff letting the message get muddied

But yeah, I've seen swensen, and it looks as though OU is always looking for someone else in that role

    3. Perhaps but he's a multi-year starter at LT for one of the better offensive programs in the country. Michigan ended up with Spanellis instead. Then next season they took 5OL which netted them Filiaga and Steuber who are not exactly standouts either.

    4. Let's revisit the timeline of Swenson's recruitment:

He committed to Brady Hoke in 2013 as part of the class of 2016.
Brady Hoke got fired after the 2014 season.
Jim Harbaugh was hired for 2015, during which Swenson (reportedly) would not come to camp for the new coaching staff despite repeated requests.

I don't blame Harbaugh one bit for backing out of a scholarship offer that he didn't send out. If you still want the offer, earn the offer. If not...go somewhere else.

It worked out well for both parties, really. Swenson eventually earned a starting job for a good program, and Michigan got an opportunity to let two (presumable) draft picks play at tackle instead, Jon Runyan, Jr. and Jalen Mayfield - and perhaps another in Ryan Hayes.

    5. Mayfield has nothing to do with Swenson. They aren't in the same class and they don't play the same position. Nothing about getting Swenson would have prevented Michigan from playing Hayes (who has 4 career starts BTW) or Runyan (if your argument is that Swenson isn't great he could just have been Runyan's backup). Instead they took a guy who couldn't beat out a walk-on for a backup center job. What it COULD have done is given them another option over the last 4 years when Michigan has put Barnhart, Bushell-Beaty, and other Bums, sorry kids, out at OT.

You can argue it was a reasonable decision, and you can say the same about hiring Rich Rod, but it doesn't matter because we have life to tell us if it worked out well or not. Swenson is a good CFB player. They guy(s) Michigan took instead aren't.

    6. If Swenson wasn't starting, he likely wouldn't be here in year four or year five. And I don't think he would have started over Runyan or Mayfield in 2019. Like I said, he was rotating with a true freshman as a fifth year senior.

So yeah, is Swenson better in 2020 than Barnhart in 2020? I would say yes. Does it matter? No, because no fifth year senior scholarship player sticks around at his original school if he's not starting by year four.

FWIW, NFL Draft Scout has Swenson rated as the #40 OT in this class. There were 20 offensive tackles drafted in 2020. I'm not saying they're right, but an unbiased source suggests that perhaps 21 tackles would need to suffer career-ending injuries before a team would think about drafting Swenson in the 7th round.

  5. And Weaver probably doesn't start over Paye, Hutchinson, Uche. That's not the point.

I understand you are saying Swenson isn't an impact player. That's fine. But he is better than the one they got instead, and his recruitment was bad from a public perception perspective as well.

It wasn't a win for Michigan on the field. Nor off it. It was poorly handled. It didn't work out for the best. They would have been better off making the exact opposite decision than the one they made. And many said this at the time. So... it was botched. Period, as they say.

Same goes for Weaver though that didn't make the same kind of headlines, probably due to timing. It would have been nicer to have him than not, he left upset, and in the meantime they certainly whiffed on some others at his position.

Treat people poorly and sometimes what goes around comes around.

There are too many examples of kids leaving Michigan who are pissed off about how it goes down to argue it's just the cost of doing business or sour grapes IMO.

  6. It would be some spin to label Evans, Mason and Nordin as starters.

  7. Ironic. Take issue with a coach decision, and Lank loses his mind in their defense. Defend the coaches, and he can't help but criticize

Almost like he just wants to argue
