Detroit (MI) King QB Dante Moore

Dante Moore - QB - Detroit (MI) King: Moore is a 6'3", 195 lb. prospect with offers from Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and others. He's a 5-star, the #3 quarterback, and #5 overall. Michigan is not really pursuing any other quarterbacks in the 2023 class, so they have all their eggs in the Moore basket, so this is an important visit for the Wolverines. Right now the crystal ball leader is Notre Dame. At this point I think this recruitment is a formality, honestly. My hunch is that this is one final hurrah for Michigan and a chance for Moore to say he gave it every chance before he goes ahead and commits to Notre Dame. Hopefully I'm wrong.

  1. I don't get why Notre Dame is so attractive to him. He wanted Notre Dame when Brian Kelly was the coach, and still wants it. There was something I read a few weeks ago that Matt Weiss got his ear, and he was considering Michigan. I don't have hopes for it though.
There's other QB's. It's a 11 man offense anyway, not 1 player, and 11 more on defense, that makes a good team. Look at the QB Georgia had last year. The QB was not at all the reason they did as good as they did.

    1. The attractiveness of ND should be obvious to a Michigan fan. It's 90% the same -- Midwest blue blood with excellent education. The difference is a matter of flavor (smaller private school vs large public, AA vs South Bend). Both coaching staffs (Freeman/Rees, Harbaugh/Weiss) can be hyped up and attractive to an elite QB.

With Michigan having McNamara and McCarthy BOTH potentially available for 3 more years, it's clear where the path to playing time is tougher right now.

More generally, since we as fans have no idea what the NIL situation is for individual recruits, we're going to be pretty ignorant of conditions and it will be silly for us to judge these kind of decisions even if we don't get the answer we like.

Conventional opinion seems to have Moore going else where but the state of Michigan has elite QBs coming up in both classes after Moore. CJ Carr ('24) also is looking at ND and I doubt Moore coming in is going to help their case. Bryce Underwood ('25) might be better than all of them and is being recruited by both Michigan and Notre Dame as well.

Long way to say "can't win them all". Hopefully won't lose them all either though. If we are able to pick just one, with the depth chart being what it is now, Moore is probably the last choice. Weird to say about a 5-star in-state kid at the most valuable position on the field, but it might not be much of a "loss".
