ReplyDeleteSimilarly, O'Maury Samuels may have played his last football, as he's not seen action for the last several games at New Mexico State. Many of the players here are facing the same thing: the closing of that chapter of their young lives and the moving on to the next. Heck, many of the players on the current Michigan roster are facing the same thing eventually. A quick search yielded these numbers: 1.1 million high school football players; only 6.5% (71K) play in NCAA college football; of those only 1.6% are drafted to the NFL; and then the number gets smaller still for those who carve out a career in the NFL. Wise is the young man who maintains a realistic view of things, who rejoices if he makes it, but does not let it ruin him if he does not.

ReplyDeleteThere's a lesson in there about QBs with big arms but poor accuracy. That may work with receivers who get open and are good at adjusting to the ball. That doesn't tend to work against better defenses, and absolutely doesn't work in the NFL. I feel for Milton: he seems like a good young man. But his QB skills are not up to the task for a top-ten program.
DeleteHooker is the truth and there is no shame in Milton getting his job taken by Hooker once he got settled in.
DeleteI don't know if Milton will ever be able to put it all together but I maintain there is something there if Heupel and Harbaugh both saw enough in him to start him. These 2 coaches have taken struggling program and brought them "BACK" into the top 5. I trust em.
Would I bet on Milton assuming the starting job at Tennesse next year and becoming an NFL draft pick? No. Do I think it's possible? Yes.
I don't know if anyone has heard of this idea, but sometimes people develop their weaknesses and get better at things.
