Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 8

FORMER PLAYERS

P George Caratan (UConn): Connecticut (3-5) had a bye. Caratan is averaging 40.6 yards on 44 punts.

C Zach Carpenter (Indiana): Carpenter is Indiana's starting left guard. He had previously started at center, but a hand injury forced him to change positions.

RB Zach Charbonnet (UCLA): Charbonnet had 20 carries for 151 yards and 1 touchdown in a 45-30 loss to Oregon. He also had 4 catches for 28 yards.

S Sammy Faustin (UMass): UMass (1-6) had a bye. Faustin has not recorded any stats so far this year.

OG Chuck Filiaga (Minnesota): Filiaga is a sixth year senior who starts at right guard for the Gophers.

CB Darion Green-Warren (Nevada): Green-Warren did not record any stats in a 23-7 loss to San Diego State.

QB Ren Hefley (Northwest Mississippi Community College): Northwest Mississippi improved to 8-0 with a 41-14 win over Holmes. Hefley completed 11/17 passes for 81 yards, and he ran 3 times for 23 yards and 1 touchdown.

K Cole Hussung (Louisville): The former walk-on kicker transferred to Louisville.

WR Giles Jackson (Washington): Jackson made 1 catch for 17 yards and 2 carries for 8 yards in a 28-21 win over Cal.

CB George Johnson III (UMass): UMass (1-6) had a bye. Johnson has 17 catches for 220 yards, 7 carries for 4 yards, and 2 kickoff returns for 20 yards so far this year.

S Jaylen Kelly-Powell (Akron): Kelly-Powell did not play in a 33-27 loss to Kent State.

DE Aaron Lewis (Rutgers): Lewis made 4 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 quarterback hurries in a 24-17 win over Indiana.

WR Oliver Martin (Nebraska): Nebraska (3-4) had a bye. Martin has 9 catches for 180 yards and 1 touchdown this year.

QB Dylan McCaffrey (Northern Colorado): McCaffrey completed 19/32 passes for 232 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions in a 58-10 loss to UC-Davis.

QB Joe Milton (Tennessee): Milton completed 4/7 passes for 135 yards and 1 touchdown in a 65-24 win over UT-Martin. He also ran 3 times for 23 yards and had a hockey assist (the second clip) for a TD.

LB William Mohan (Tennessee): Mohan was dismissed from Tennessee's program for an off-the-field incident.

S Jordan Morant (Mississippi State): Morant did not record any stats in a 30-6 loss to Alabama.

DT Phillip Paea (Utah State): Paea did not play in a 28-14 loss to Wyoming.

S Hunter Reynolds (Utah State): Reynolds made 8 tackles in a 28-14 loss to Wyoming.

C/OG Nolan Rumler (Kent State): Rumler is a backup center and offensive guard for the Golden Flashes.

RB O'Maury Samuels (New Mexico State): New Mexico State (2-5) had a bye. Samuels has just 1 carry for 6 yards this season.

CB Andre Seldon (New Mexico State): New Mexico State (2-5) had a bye. Seldon has 24 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and 2 pass breakups this year.

CB Myles Sims (Georgia Tech): Sims made 3 tackles in a 16-9 loss to Virginia on Thursday night.

LB Anthony Solomon (Arizona): Arizona (3-4) had a bye. Solomon has 1 tackle this season.

OT Jack Stewart (UConn): Stewart is a backup offensive lineman for UConn.

RB Christian Turner (Wake Forest): Turner had 7 carries for 29 yards in a 43-15 win over Boston College.

LB Ben VanSumeren (Michigan State): MSU (3-4) had a bye. VanSumeren has 53 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup so far this year.

QB Dan Villari (Syracuse): Villari did not play in a 27-21 loss to Clemson.

LB Cornell Wheeler (Kansas): Wheeler did not play in a 35-23 loss to Baylor.

RB Tim Baldwin, Jr. (UMass): UMass (1-6) had a bye. Baldwin has run 33 times for 165 yards but has not played in several weeks.

CB Te'Cory Couch (Miami): Couch made 1 pass breakup in a 45-21 loss to Duke.

C Emil Ekiyor, Jr. (Alabama): Ekiyor is the starting right guard for Alabama.

RB Eric Gray (Oklahoma): Oklahoma (4-3) had a bye. Gray has 97 rushing attempts for 697 yards (7.2 yards/carry) and 5 touchdowns. He also has 14 catches for 105 yards.

OLB Stephen Herron, Jr. (Stanford): Herron made 4 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 2 quarterback hurries in a 15-14 win over Arizona State.

C Jalil Irvin (Auburn): Irvin is a backup center as a fifth year senior for the Tigers.

LB Branden Jennings (UCF): Jennings did not play in a 34-13 loss to East Carolina.

LB Chase Lasater (Eastern Kentucky): Lasater did not play in a 56-53 win over North Alabama.

RB Amauri Pesek-Hickson (Northern Iowa): Pesek-Hickson did not play in a 41-20 win over Missouri State.

S Otis Reese (Ole Miss): Reese made 9 tackles in a 45-20 loss to LSU.

S Antwaine Richardson (Kent State): Richardson did not play in a 33-27 win over Akron.

TE Leonard Taylor (Cincinnati): Taylor made 2 catches for 8 yards and 1 rush for 10 yards in a 29-27 win over SMU.

DT Alex VanSumeren (Michigan State): MSU (3-4) had a bye. Alex has 3 tackles so far this season but he appears to now be taking a redshirt.

WR Xavier Worthy (Texas): Worthy made 4 catches for 78 yards and 1 touchdown and 3 punt returns for 56 yards in a 41-34 loss to Oklahoma State.

FORMER COACHES

Don Brown (Head Coach, UMass): UMass (1-6) had a bye.

Jedd Fisch (Head Coach, Arizona): Arizona (3-4) had a bye.

Brady Hoke (Head Coach, San Diego State): SDSU improved to 4-3 with a 23-7 win over Nevada.

Mo Linguist (Head Coach, Buffalo): Buffalo beat Toledo by a score of 34-27 to improve to 5-3.

Scot Loeffler (Head Coach, Bowling Green State): BGSU improved to 4-4 after a 34-18 win over Central Michigan.

Jim McElwain (Head Coach, Central Michigan): Central Michigan lost to BGSU by a score of 34-18 and fell to 2-6 on the season.

Rich Rodriguez (Head Coach, Jacksonville State): Jacksonville State fell to 6-2 after a 31-14 loss to Southeastern Louisiana.

    1. My guess is Corum. He's the best back I've ever seen in a Michigan uniform.

      However, NFL success probably depends more on luck than talent. Health and context (offense, QB, OL) may mean more than individual ability, especially in the NFL where it's harder to stand out as a RB since all RBs, even practice squad players, are elite athletes.

      For example, I thought Tenn would be a good landing spot for HH as they've been an old school run heavy offense that is willing to invest in the OL. But it seems the running attack has gone downhill (not in a good way) after losing 3/5 OL starters from last year. YPC has dropped from 4.4 to 3.7 despite getting Derrick Henry back.

  2. When Milton is on target that guy can throw a very pretty pass. The question/issue remains if he can get on target more often than not. He may get a shot to prove it next year unless the Vols finds a better option elsewhere.
