Stats: 24 catches for 648 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior in 2022

Strengths: Tall, long frame with room to fill out . . . Possesses both long speed and good acceleration . . . Good balance after the catch . . . Very willing blocker on second- and third-level defenders . . . Shows aggressive initial punch and ability to drive feet through the whistle . . . Tracks ball well in the air . . . Uses basketball-type skills to box out defenders and high-point the football . . . Adept route runner with enough agility to use head fakes and jab steps to create separation

Weaknesses: Plays wide receiver and slot receiver in high school . . . Moving closer to the line of scrimmage will require learning new techniques . . . Does not show any clips of playing with his hand down as an in-line tight end . . . Will need to continue filling out frame with muscle

Overall: Prieskorn is a good overall prospect with a good chance of being a productive receiving talent in college. He does not have the suddenness of some other top receiving tight ends, but his height, athleticism, and ability to box out defensive backs make him a tough matchup. It will be interesting to see how well he transitions to playing with his hand down (if a team decides to use him that way), but I think his blocking ability will be solid at the next level.

Projection: Power Five starter and NFL draft pick. The tight end position can be somewhat tricky to project, because it largely depends on what type of scheme the coaching staff uses. Some teams feature tight ends, and some use them as an afterthought. That being said, there aren't a ton of 6'6" guys with his frame who can run like he does. Even if he doesn't go to a team that features the tight end in the passing game, I think an NFL team will take notice in three to five years.

Reminds me of: Dallas Goedert. The former South Dakota State and current Philadelphia Eagles tight end was an FCS walk-on from lightly recruited South Dakota, so naturally, Prieskorn is a much higher profile player. But Goedert is one of the better receiving tight ends in the NFL with soft hands and pretty good athleticism. He also has an ability to split out into the slot.

  1. Good news here. Looking forward to a commitment in the next day or two, Thunder either being prescient, or dishing insider stuff.

  2. Would be a nice get. I continue to be perplexed that we aren't attracting top 5 national TE recruits given our scheme emphasis and consistent production at the position.
