Congratulations to defensive lineman Ryan Van Bergen, who announced immediately following the NFL Draft that he is expecting to sign with the Carolina Panthers.
Good for Van Bergen! I think he definitely has the ability to be a solid contributor in the NFL, and Panthers are certainly in need of some defense (ranked in the mid-20s for total defense, passing and rush defense, and sacks). Plus, they only took one DLineman in the draft (an edge-rushing DE). He's got a great opportunity, and I think he'll make good.
If Van Bergen has a shot at making it in Charlotte, it'll likely be as a DT. Panthers are very thin there. They already have a lot of limited-skill DEs.
