Scouting Report: Vic Enwere

Committed to Cal on June 17 . . . As a junior in 2012, had 210 carries for 1,509 yards and 16 touchdowns, plus 8 receptions for 140 yards . . . Strengths: Solid frame with good lower body strength . . . Keeps shoulders square to line of scrimmage and defenders . . . Difficult to bring down on first contact . . . Shows nice vision and patience to find the hole and cutback lanes . . . Displays good footwork in backfield . . . Carries ball high and tight . . . Protects ball in traffic . . . Shows nifty feet in the hole . . . Catches ball well on screens and flares

Weaknesses: Lacks any kind of breakaway speed . . . Not quick enough to elude third- and sometimes second-level defenders . . . Lacks burst to pull away after contact and cuts, allowing trailers to bring him down

Projection: Running back. Enwere looks like a college running back right now or maybe even the type of guy who turns into an inside linebacker with some added weight. He lacks the breakaway speed to be an elite running back at the college level, and while a lot of running backs aren't faster than defensive backs, my biggest concern for Enwere's future is he looks like he might be overmatched in the quickness department by a lot of college linebackers. He should be able to fight for extra yardage after contact, but he will probably be limited to running between the tackles. Enwere is the type of player who can be a solid backup because of how hard he runs, but if he's your feature back, your offense is going to be limited.

Likelihood of coming to Michigan: Enwere is currently committed to Cal but has expressed interest in visiting Michigan. Prior to the tender, he stated that he would not visit Michigan unless they offered. It's tough to pull kids out of Texas, but the Wolverines are arguably the best offer he has.

Let's see more of this guy on offense . . . Derrick Green. I thought Green (19 carries, 79 yards) looked pretty solid in his first career start. He will never be the fastest back around, nor will he make many people miss. But what he's always done well is hit the hole hard. On Saturday night, he appeared to be less worried about finding the hole and less preoccupied with holding onto the football, and as long as he can do those things successfully without overthinking, he should be a good alternative to Fitzgerald Toussaint down the stretch. Those two should be splitting carries next week if Toussaint is healthy.

Let's see less of this guy on offense . . . nobody. I was happy with the wide receiver rotation, the tight end rotation, and the running backs. Even Graham Glasgow had an error-free day snapping the ball.

Let's see more of this guy on defense . . . Jehu Chesson. Okay, okay, I'm not suggesting that he move to defense . . . but I have been very impressed with his physicality through ten games. Whether he's blocking or on special teams coverage, the guy hits people and is a solid tackler. Brady Hoke mentioned at the beginning of the year that Chesson almost moved to cornerback at one point last year, and I would not mind having his clone in the defensive backfield.

Let's see less of this guy on defense . . . Keith Heitzman. I was in support of Heitzman early in the year, but the more I've seen of all these guys, the rotation right now seems to be pretty good. With Jake Ryan back at SAM linebacker and Cam Gordon a very athletic backup there, Beyer looks to be a more natural fit at defensive end with Chris Wormley playing rotation snaps. Even when Heitzman's broken hand is fully healed, I think he's a third-stringer - but if he's your third string defensive end, you're in pretty good shape.

Play of the game . . . Brendan Gibbons's game-tying 44-yard field goal to send the game to overtime. You know the story already, but here it is again: Jeremy Gallon was tackled with about 11 seconds remaining after a 16-yard reception. He promptly got up, got the ball to the official to place on the right hashmark, and the field goal unit ran onto the field. While the blockers got set, wide receiver Drew Dileo came sprinting in from the opposite side of the field after running his own route, tapped the ground, and took the snap from Jareth Glanda with barely 1 second left on the clock. Gibbons hurried through his steps to knock the ball through the uprights. Honorable mention goes to Jake Butt's one-handed touchdown grab from Devin Gardner in the first overtime.

MVP of the game . . . James Ross III. I came really close to picking Gardner (24/43, 226 yards, 1 touchdown; 17 carries for 19 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 two-point conversion), but Gardner had an off day throwing the ball. He was undoubtedly a tough competitor after getting beaten up the previous two weeks and working through five sacks in this game alone, but Ross was a big reason Michigan was able to hold down Northwestern's potent, multi-pronged rushing attack. Ross ended the game with 13 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack; his tackles were the most by a Wolverine in any game this season, and he now leads the team with 75 tackles

October 25, 2013: Madison Southern beat Stanford (KY) Lincoln County by a score of 49-14. Harris had 8 carries for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns (of 13, 18, and 70 yards). He now has 180 carries for 2,104 yards and 32 touchdowns.  Madison Southern is 8-1.

October 18, 2013: Madison Southern beat London (KY) North Laurel by a score of 56-28. Harris had 14 carries for 263 yards and 4 touchdowns, plus a 70-yard interception return. That brings him to 172 carries for 1,913 yards and 29 touchdowns. Madison Southern is now 7-1.

October 11, 2013: Madison Southern lost to Pulaski (KY) Pulaski by a score of 21-18. Harris had 35 carries for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns. He now has 158 carries for 1,650 yards and 25 touchdowns for the year. This was Madison Southern's first loss as they fell to 6-1.

October 4, 2013: Madison Southern beat Somerset (KY) Southwestern by a score of 44-6. Harris had 28 carries for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns. He now has 123 carries for 1,393 yards and 23 touchdowns on the season. Madison Southern is now 6-0.

September 27, 2013: Madison Southern beat London (KY) South Laurel by a score of 47-7. Harris had 8 carries for 114 yards and 4 touchdowns. He now has 95 carries for 1,119 yards and 19 touchdowns. Madison Southern is now 5-0.

September 13, 2013: Madison Southern beat Lexington (KY) Dunbar by a score of 21-19. Harris had 20 carries for 146 yards and 1 touchdown, along with a blocked extra point. He left the game around halftime due to what appeared to be a knee injury but did return. He now has 87 carries for 1,005 yards and 15 total touchdowns on the season. September 6, 2013: Madison Southern beat Richmond (KY) Madison Central by a score of 34-27. Harris had 31 carries for 315 yards and 3 touchdowns. He now has 67 carries for 877 yards and 14 total touchdowns on the year. Madison Southern is 3-0.
