Marion (MA) Tabor Academy quarterback Peter Bourque, a 2027 prospect, committed to Michigan on Monday morning. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M, and numerous others.
Bourque is listed at 6'4", 190 lbs. He threw for 1,737 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions as a sophomore and also ran for 317 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Bourque was offered by Michigan on March 14, 2025, but it seems like he has been recruited by the Wolverines for much longer than that. Originally a 2026 prospect, he has since re-classified to 2027, allowing him more time to play and develop.
Bourque is a tall, well built prospect with the throw power to match. He's good at pushing the ball downfield on go balls, seams, posts, and corners, and he also has the arm strength to throw deep out routes and make off-platform throws. He's also tough to take down in the backfield and in the open field because if his size, strength, and adequate speed, making him someone who should be able to create a little bit and prolong plays. There are also a few clips of him making big-time plays with his creativity in clutch situations.
There are times where Bourque does not get his feet lined up with where he's throwing, and in general, his footwork is a little bit messy. Mechanically, he looks like a 2027 prospect, not a 2026 one, so it might be a good thing that he re-classified. He also does not play against great competition, and there are times where the defense just looks totally unprepared with guys lined up improperly, defending empty space. He drops his arm down to throw from different arm slots, but there's not always a good reason for it. And there are too many times where he's making plays with his legs rather than reading defenses and making quick decisions, so it's difficult to gauge whether the offensive line is just breaking down (which I think is often the case) or whether he's just not making the correct pre-snap reads.
Overall, Bourque is a good prospect who really seems to need an extra year or two of seasoning. If Michigan took the player on tape in the 2026 class, I would probably be thinking, "Well, they need a developmental guy since Bryce Underwood was the class of 2025 guy." But since Bourque is a 2027 prospect, there's time for him to develop in high school and hopefully work with a private coach before arriving in Ann Arbor.
Michigan now has three commitments in the class of 2027, where he joins offensive linemen Louis Esposito and Tristan Dare. Bourque would be the first player to come to Michigan from Tabor Academy.
Yep I don't want to be a cynic but... what are the odds this kid is starting QB at Michigan in 2029 or 2030 or whatever else?
ReplyDeleteNothing specific to Bourque, just an observation on the realities of modern day CFB. Kids this far out from enrollment often change their minds. That's before they get to campus, not even factoring in the portal after they arrive.
Yep, I don't know if I'm just getting old or what, but I just can't take the same level of excitement in recruiting as I used to, particularly for future classes.
Anyway I do still appreciate Thunder and recruiting industry people who have the passion and interest to put thoughtful analysis into this stuff. I'm glad it's out there for people to get excited about.
I hope Bourque wins a Heisman at Michigan and this post lives on to be mocked.
No need to wait on the mocking. You've finally come around regarding QB & player transfers, six years after we started pointing it out here
DeleteYep that's rude and I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you got a ......quote or link?
DeleteWelcome young man! Of course we have no idea how this will turn out, but it's better to wonder if these top1o types will stick around & meet expectations than to settle & hope for an Orji//Denegal/Villari to work out, or skipping the most important position in sports like we did in 2o23
