Goodbye, Hassan Haskins

Hassan Haskins (image via MLive)

Thanks to those of you who have made donations to TTB's fundraising campaign! As of Monday I'm up to $1,104.43 brought in through Paypal, which puts me at 32.5% of my goal for the redesigned site.

HIGH SCHOOL
Haskins was a 2-star running back to Rivals and the #1013 overall player to 247 Sports when he committed to Michigan out of Eureka (MO) Eureka in the class of 2018. I gave him a TTB Rating of 78 (LINK) and he ended up as a 247 Composite 3-star, the #49 running back, and #975 overall. A quote from my commitment post:

I’ll probably take some flak for this because people don’t understand how words work, but from a running style standpoint, Haskins reminds me a lot of Adrian Peterson. He’s not as big or as strong or as fast, but he runs with the same style and idea of physicality. He’s not a blazing runner or amazingly elusive, but he has good vision and power.

Site News: TTB Needs Your Help

Good morning, faithful TTB readers! It's been a while since I've posted much about news regarding the site, because everything since 2020 has been weird and we've all gone through some stuff.

However, the time has come to open up a little bit about TTB. As you all have figured out now, I've mostly been mirroring content between the Wordpress site and the Blogger/Blogspot site. That's because the Renovatio theme on Wordpress went kaput in a few areas, including supporting comments. And I like the comments (it would be boring to post and not discuss with readers), so in order to get discussion, my solution has just been to post all/most content on both sites. It's a little time consuming but mostly just consists of copying/pasting, so that's not a big deal.

THE BIG DEAL

The big deal is declining ad revenue. It has been an issue for a few years and has finally come to a head. In short, I'm not making enough money on TTB to make it viable. For the first time in the blog's history, I lost money on the endeavor in 2021 when I filed my taxes.

I literally paid to bring you (almost) daily content in 2021. The game reviews, the recruiting info, the countdown, etc. all cost me money.

All-Time Career Passing Yardage Leaders

The 2022 Season Countdown is Coming!

Every year since 2009, I have counted down from the least important player on that year’s roster to the most important player, including starters, scholarship players, preferred walk-ons, special teams players, student body walk-ons, and everyone in between.

In case you want a look back at last year’s countdown, here it is (LINK).

YEARLY DISCLAIMER: The countdown is by the player’s importance to the team, not his overall talent. A talented player at a deep position won’t necessarily be missed a lot if he gets injured, but an injury to a moderately talented player at a thin position could be devastating. For example, I had cornerback Ambry Thomas ranked at #2 in 2020 because he was the team's only proven cornerback. Naturally, he opted out of the season and the team as a whole was an unmitigated disaster. Meanwhile, first round pick Kwity Paye was #6 because more talent was returning on the defensive line.

I know times are tough, but now is a good time to suggest a Paypal donation if you appreciate the content here at TTB:

Be ready for the countdown to begin in early April. I'm arranging the list now . . .

2023

Kade Eldridge - TE - Lynden (WA) Christian School: Eldridge is a 6'4", 235 lb. prospect with offers from Boise State, Oregon State, and Utah, among others. He's a 247 Sports 3-star and the #83 athlete in the class. He does not have a Michigan offer, but one could be on the way.

Mark Fletcher - RB - Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage: Fletcher is a 6'1", 225 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Miami, Michigan, and Penn State, among others. He's a 4-star, the #8 running back, and #137 overall. He visited on Tuesday. Fletcher has one crystal ball pick in for Miami.

11. Dylan Senda - OG - Dearborn (MI) Divine Child
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 275 lbs.
Notable offers: Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State
Commitment: Northwestern
247 Composite: 3-star, #27 IOL, #451 overall
Analysis: Senda was strongly considering Michigan and Michigan State, but apparently he felt like the culture, academics, and playing opportunity were better in Evanston. He's a decent sized interior offensive lineman, but I think there might be limitations on his size and strength, and I have some questions about his lateral movement.

2023

Collins Acheampong - DE - Anaheim (CA) Fairmont: Acheampong is a 6'7", 230 lb. prospect with offers from LSU, Miami, and Michigan, among others. He's a 247 Sports 3-star and the #27 tight end in the class. Acheampong is also a high-level basketball player, and I have seen reported height measurements of 6'8" and even 6'9".

Brooks Bahr - DE - Chicago (IL) Loyola: Bahr is a 6'6", 270 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, among others. He's a 3-star, the #68 defensive lineman, and #504 overall. UPDATE: Bahr committed to Michigan (LINK).

Anthony Brown - WR - Springfield (OH) Springfield: Brown, a former Minnesota commit, is a 5'10", 170-pounder with offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Washington, and Wisconsin, among others. He's a 4-star, the #39 wide receiver, and #293 overall.

Jackson Carver - TE - Windsor (CT) Loomis Chaffee: Carver is a 6'6", 220 lb. prospect with offers from Iowa, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. He's a 3-star, the #29 tight end, and #565 overall. He reclassified from 2022 to 2023, and the Indiana native is now prepping at Windsor (CT) Loomis Chaffee, the same school as 2022 signee Alessandro Lorenzetti.

Brooks Bahr, Wolverine

Chicago (IL) Loyola DT Brooks Bahr

Chicago (IL) Loyola defensive tackle Brooks Bahr committed to Michigan on Tuesday afternoon. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Northwestern, and Wisconsin, among others.

Bahr is listed at 6'6" and 270 lbs.

RATINGS
ESPN: Unranked
On3: 3-star, 88 grade, #52 DL
Rivals: 3-star, 5.7 grade, #39 SDE
247 Sports: 3-star, 87 grade, #74 DL

6. Brennan Parachek - TE - Dexter (MI) Dexter
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 235 lbs.
Notable offers: Indiana, Kentucky, Pitt
Commitment: Michigan State
247 Composite: 4-star, #18 TE, #337 overall
Analysis: Paracheck is a traditional in-line tight end with good size. He should easily be able to carry 250-260 pounds in college. Parachek does not have much burst or suddenness to his game, even against so-so high school talent, so I would not expect him to become a dynamic receiving threat. He seems to be a guy who might end up averaging 9 or 10 yards per catch while being used mostly as a blocker. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he were to put on even more weight and end up as an offensive lineman at the next level. He's also a teammate of 2023 running back Cole Cabana (Michigan), who is #4 in the state.

2023 Recruiting Update: March 14, 2022

Cleveland (OH) Glenville LB Arvell Reese (image via 247 Sports)

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2023

Jamarious Brown - DE - Moss Point (MS) Moss Point: Brown is a 6'3", 250 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Florida State, among others. He's a 4-star, the #26 edge player, and #323 overall. Mississippi is a black hole for Michigan recruiting, so I wouldn't expect this to go much of anywhere.

Koby Keenum - OG - Florence (AL) Mars Hill: Keenum is a 6'4", 300-pounder with offers from Florida State, Notre Dame, and Penn State, among others. He's a 3-star, the #52 offensive tackle, and #578 overall.

Elijah Paige - OT - Phoenix (AZ) Pinnacle: Paige is a 6'6", 290 lb. prospect with offers from the big in-state schools, Notre Dame, Penn State, and USC, among others. He's a 3-star, the #40 offensive tackle, and #499 overall. If Pinnacle sounds familiar, it's a pretty successful high school program in Arizona produced former Michigan quarterback commit J.D. Johnson and, less importantly, jerkface Spencer Rattler.

Preview of 2023 In-State Recruiting: #1-5

Detroit (MI) King QB Dante Moore

Please help out TTB with a donation:

If you read this site or are into Michigan recruiting, you probably know the names at the top of this in-state list. The ranking/order are according to the 247 Composite. I can tell you right now that I would rearrange this top five list, but until I complete my rundown of the top players in the state, I won't really put them in order.

1. Dante Moore - QB - Detroit (MI) King
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 195 lbs.
Notable offers: LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State
Commitment: Uncommitted
247 Composite: 5-star, #3 QB, #6 overall
Analysis: Moore is a national prospect at the quarterback position and has been a widely known name for several years. He has very good anticipation and touch, along with having adequate arm strength and athleticism. He's not a dynamic athlete with his feet, but he's a good athlete who can move in the pocket and has really refined his footwork. He appears to be one of the most college-ready quarterbacks to come out of Michigan in a long time. Wherever he goes, he will probably be in the conversation to start by year two at the latest. Moore grew up an Ohio State fan, gets private coaching from former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner, and has good relationships with the coaches at Notre Dame. So his future destination is up in the air right now in a hotly contested battle.

Goodbye, Chris Hinton, Jr.

Chris Hinton, Jr. (image via Maize 'n' Brew)

Please consider using Paypal to help out the site:

HIGH SCHOOL
Hinton always had the spotlight on him, considering he's the son of former 1st round NFL draft pick Chris Hinton. He attended Norcross (GA) Greater Atlanta Christian and was a 5-star, the #4 defensive tackle, and #31 overall in the class of 2019. Originally rated as a strongside end - which confused me at the time - he eventually ended up ranked as a DT, where he finished up behind Zacch Pickens (South Carolina), DeMarvin Leal (Texas A&M), and Travon Walker (Georgia); Pickens is returning to South Carolina, while Leal and Walker joined Hinton in declaring for the draft after three years. Sam Pendleton - OT - Pfafftown (NC) Reagan: Pendleton is a 6'4", 305 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Michigan, North Carolina State, and Penn State, among others. He's a 4-star, the #22 interior offensive lineman, and #354 overall. His crystal balls are all in favor of Clemson, but Michigan is probably #2 in his recruitment.

All-Time Single-Game Tackle Leaders

Jarrett Irons (image via Bentley Historical Library)

This was a very interesting list to put together. I wasn't old enough to remember a lot of these performances or players when they were at Michigan, though I have seen some in throwback videos. Most of them I'm only familiar with through their name, at least until Erick Anderson and beyond.

How Does the 2022 Class Match Up with Michigan's All-Time Recruits?

Is Mason Graham the next Maurice Hurst, Jr.? (image via Twitter)

Thanks to Ashley, Eric, Joe, and Stephen for the recent Paypal donations.

As much as we like to get excited about every single Michigan recruit, it's important to keep perspective and realize that not every one of these players will be destined for stardom.
