  1. I wonder how closely total yards correlates to scoring and winning? Other factors come into play: turnovers, failure to convert 3rd downs, a poor red zone offense, etc. Of course it correlates to some degree, but I wonder if "total offense/defense" tells the story, or "scoring offense/defense" is better?

Here are some select teams for scoring defense and offense:

Arizona is #82 in scoring defense, and #125 in scoring offense.
Michigan is #30 in scoring defense, and #19 in scoring offense.
Ohio State is #19 in scoring defense, and #2 in scoring offense.
Alabama is is #25 in scoring defense, and #4 in scoring offense.
Georgia is #1 in scoring defense, and #14 in scoring offense.

And then I think, "I wonder what is, in general, better: highly-ranked scoring offense, or highly-ranked scoring defense?" Take, for example, Alabama and Georgia: Alabama is better at offense, Georgia is better at defense.

All this simply because of the mention of Arizona's total defense rising to #44. :-)

    1. FWIW Arizona is still in the 80s in DFEI. They still stink but we know Don Brown is good coach and they'll likely improve, perhaps dramatically, over the next couple years. If you can have an elite D at Boston College you can probably do it at Arizona too.

Plus, the Pac 12 isn't what it used to be in terms of high flying offenses. The Ducks are quite conservative under Cristobal despite their talent. The Washington schools are dealing with coaching chaos and USC is obviously way down. It's not as hard as it used to be for a DC to look good there.

Still, Jedd Fisch is entirely unproven as a head coach and has never stayed any place for very long so we'll see how long this regime lasts in AZ.

  2. It's great to see Don Brown have a bit of relief in AZ. He was real emotional about his players in interviews afterward. One of my all time favorite coaches. Fisch is lucky to have him.

Beilema seems to have figured out what Harbaugh knew in 2017. Peters is at his best in a limited role. I hope Illinois closes the season on a high note and Peters leaves college football with good memories.

Will Hart keeps doing his thing.

I wonder if Worthy is having any regrets about his move.
    Will Hart continues on.
