West Bloomfield (MI) West Bloomfield wide receiver Semaj Morgan, a 2023 prospect, committed to Michigan. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Missouri, Ole Miss, and West Virginia, among others.

Morgan is listed at 5'10" and 175 lbs. As a junior in 2021, he caught 61 passes for 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns. He claims a 4.5 forty.

Morgan was offered in June 2021 and it always looked like he was Michigan's to lose. His former high school head coach, Ron Bellamy, was hired as Michigan's safeties coach this year. Following The Game against Ohio State, he picked Michigan a few days later.

Morgan is built a little like former Michigan receiver Jeremy Gallon. Gallon was listed at 5'8", and while Morgan is 5'10", their build is somewhat similar. He's thickly built with the ability to break tackles after the catch and fight through contact while the ball is in the air. He has some nice quickness and acceleration. I also really like his ability to high point the ball, as well as reel in an array of one-handed catches.

I would like to see Morgan clean up his route-running. He telegraphs some of his routes and doesn't always use the suddenness that his physical talent allows. His top-end speed is also somewhat limited. Much like Gallon, he has the quickness to pull away initially but can get tracked down once he's in the open field.

Overall, Morgan is a good prospect. I think he's solidly a 4-star type of player, but his upside is somewhat capped because of his size and lack of breakaway speed. I think he should be able to play fairly early in his college career.

Michigan now has three commitments in the 2023 class, where Morgan joins defensive tackle Joel Starlings and kicker Adam Samaha. The Wolverines have landed a few West Bloomfield prospects in recent years (Makari Paige, Donovan Edwards, Cornell Wheeler), though linebacker Wheeler transferred to Kansas.

TTB Rating: I am not posting TTB Ratings for 2023 prospects yet.
