TE Erick All (Iowa): All had 2 catches for 19 yards in Iowa's 19-6 win over Wisconsin, but the bigger news was that he suffered a nasty knee injury on his second catch. All leads the Hawkeyes in all receiving categories, catches (21), yards (299), and touchdowns (3) by a wide margin.

WR Andrel Anthony (Oklahoma): Anthony is out for the season. He caught 27 passes for 429 yards and 1 touchdown this season before the injury.
QB Alan Bowman (Oklahoma State): Bowman completed 28/41 passes for 336 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in a 39-32 win over Kansas. As good as those numbers sound, that's just his sixth-highest passing yardage total in a game. His highest total was when he threw for 605 yards against Houston as a freshman for Texas Tech in 2018.

Transfers to MI doing better than transfers from MI. Nugent, Henderson, Wallace, Barner, Tuttle, Goode, Hausman, and Stewart are all doing quite well. Got to give the coaching staff credit.

Agree. There was a debate a couple years back, based on headcount, that transfers were damaging to Michigan. But we've gained so much production and lost very few guys we missed.
DeleteThere's a few would be "nice to haves" but nobody that really hurt us. Ben St Juste might be the biggest missed opportunity. I think we upgraded going from All to Barner all things considered. Even the ones we think might hurt us (Zach Carpenter, Aubrey Solomon, Dylan McCaffrey) tend to flop.
I think you'll see more use of the Portal going forward as the benefits of picking guys up from minor league squads (like Indiana, Stanford, Virginia, Nebraska) seem very obvious. Even at the risk of dropping the last few guys from the bottom of the recruiting class. The Portal lets the rich get richer and we should not be shy about recruiting guys we want directly from lesser programs IMO.
I'd like to see them be more proactive about it already, especially at CB.

ReplyDeleteMy read on this was that the issue was less about not taking the credits from Worthy's fake high school bridge program and more about how poorly it was communicated to him. Regardless the connection between the program and admissions can be cleaned up.
DeleteOn the other hand, we seem to be doing well at receiver these days. i get the feeling that all the freshmen are keepers -- Morgan, Moore, English -- along with sophomores Morris and Clemons.(Walk on O'Leary is good too.) I don't think Worthy is any better than Wilson, and Cornelius Johnson has been steady and at times spectacular.
ReplyDeleteStill need to find some top end speed like Gatlin Bar. I hope they are staying on that kid because what Roman Wilson brings to the offense is hugely impactful, and he could do the same thing. Not sure we have that guy yet, especially with Walker flipped to CB.
DeleteIt will help with recruiting if Wilson and Johnson both get drafted because that will be good proof that you don't need to catch 80 balls to get NFL scouts attention (which I think is the case). I think Johnson is borderline but if he tests well at the combine it's definitely possible.
