Utah's offensive stats tell a story: 33 first downs (to WVU's 14); Utah goes 8 for 13 on 3rd down (62%); 3 for 3 on 4th down; 7 for 7 in the red zone; 4 for 4 when goal to go; had an 83% pass completion rate for 290 yards; 242 yards rushing; and held the ball for 9+ minutes more than WVU. In other words, WVU has a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball.
ReplyDeleteWheatley ... how long can he possibly hold on?
I'm not an NFL guy. I see Harbaugh is 3-1 with the Chargers, but all the games have been relatively low-scoring, close games. What's the story there ... their defense mostly carrying them while the Charger offense not so hot?
IDK how Wheatley has held on this long. He's been bad at head coaching everywhere he's been. I love(d) him as a player, but I generally think he's not a good coach. He wasn't a good coach in the NFL, I don't think he was anything special at Michigan, and he hasn't won anywhere as a head coach in college (Morgan State, Wayne State).
DeleteI think with Harbaugh it's just the brand of football they play. Some analysts have been raving about how Justin Herbert looks this year, and they figured out how to use Quentin Johnston (the former TCU WR who sucked the past couple years). So now between Keenan Allen, Johnston, and Ladd McConkey, along with Omarion Hampton and Herbert, they have a pretty awesome group of skill guys.
Yesterday the chargers were missing Guard mehki becton
DeleteThat IOL just couldn't do much Harball with their lack of depth
And they've been missing Slater all season.
DeleteI just looked up Mehki Becton ... 6'7" and 364 pounds ... that's a big boy. I didn't think interior linemen were generally that tall. Tackles, yes; but I thought guards were more in the 6'5"-ish range.
DeleteOf all the things I thought I’d see, Cade throwing 46 times for 400 yards was definitely not one of them!
ReplyDeleteAfter quitting on Michigan and then quitting on Iowa, Cade probably came there to put up numbers. He got caught up in a time share and ended up throwing only 15 times a game through the first 3. But now with Jacolby Criswelll hurt, he's gotten to live out his dreams throwing 45 times a game each of the last 2 weeks.
DeleteDown by 4 with 2 minutes to go, the ETSU Bucs last drive ended in a Cade interception. His team is 2-3.
Cade has 6 TDs and 6 INTs on the season and sports a passer rating of 130.
At least McNamara was something interesting to read about this week. Some of the guys some people thought would be interesting this year (Andrel Anthony, Dan Villari, Ben Hall, etc.) have been pretty boring. Anthony hasn't done anything the past couple weeks, Villari has been less involved, and Hall is UNC's third-string running back.
DeleteSo many guys are hurt!
DeleteOf those that are healthy I think Andrel Anthony and Ben Hall are both rather disappointing. But disappointment is usually what you get with transfers out.
Matt Hibner had his first TD catch of the year for SMU but his numbers are still very low at 8 catches for 49 yards....on the season.
I sure hope McNamara has plans for post-college that involve something *other* than the NFL, because he's not going to get near that. Many, many college QBs don't.
DeleteMCNAMARA SUCKS BUT WE KNEW THAT IN 2020. CARRIED HIS ASS IN 2021 BUT TRUTH CAME OUT IN 22, 23, 24, 25. DUDE WAS BORN IN 2000 SO HE'S 25 NOW BUT HE'LL PROBABLY BE BACK GRIFTING CFB PROGRAMS IN 2026 TOO LOL.
DeleteFour guys starting for not terrible D1 programs across the country. That’s pretty good. Kansas no longer being horrid feels odd.
ReplyDeleteLinemen
DeleteI liked Denegal coming in, thinking he had a nice sense about where to place a ball and some touch to go with it. I’m glad to see him having fun on the field. Maybe he isn’t a BIG Qb, but I think he’s at least as good as Drew Allor. lol. I’m sorry, that was mean. I think he’s a better Qb than Allor. Thinking they share that opinion in Unhappy Valley about now.
ReplyDeleteLOL. It was definitely fun to watch Allar on Saturday night lose a game in ways I thought he would lose the game. I do not get the hype about him being the top QB or a top QB in the class. I think a big part of it is that he looks the part of being a Tom Brady or Jared Goff - tall, solidly built, lanky - but he doesn't play like it.
DeleteThe PSU QB before Allar was treated quite badly IMO. Can't remember his name, but he could run around, make plays, hurt you in different ways and fans from day one wanted the Hype Guy. I always thought the run around and make plays guy was pretty good. Not all american or first round pick, but a damn good B10 QB that could win games.
DeleteAllar is mediocre in all respects, to my eye. I mean, a 5 star typically had exceptional ability and I don't see it. His arm is ok. His athletic ability is below average. His accuracy is hit or miss. Decision making and leadership average.
I would take BU right now over Allar.
Hmmm...I guess I'll disagree on Allar. I think he has good talent. He runs pretty well for a big guy and has a decent arm. I don't love him, but it's mostly for his decision making and the fact that his deep ball tends to float.
DeleteSean Clifford was the previous PSU QB BTW.
Our former RBs were worse than I thought
ReplyDeleteBut Haynes? Worth every penny. Outstanding pickup

LMAO, are you comparing the Don - who was on the bench for most of 2o22 - to Haynes, a starting RB? It's September, but Haynes already has more starts than Don had in that entire 14-game season
But uh, okay. Who was Boom-Bust? Don, easy. Loss of yards. 1yd carries. 2yd carries. Falling on contact (and oft without contact). Needed a LB to be converted to RB to take the bruising runs, because the coaches WE ALL TRUST knew his limitations. With Haynes, even if he gets hit at the line, he's dragging MFs for a ride. Mullings-esque, but faster
Hahahahahaha, too easy!
#gotellthunder
GOT IT. LOL. SO LOWER SUCCESS RATE (MORE LIKELY TO -- NOT -- GET THE YARDS NEEDED WHEN NEEDING IT, LIKE 3RD AND SHORT) IS LESS BOOM BUST. HIGHER YPC IS MORE IMPORTANT.
DeleteBECAUSE "BOOM BUST" MEANS WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO LIKE "TOSS UP". FAAAAAAAAANTASY.
HAYNES AGAINST OU GETS A 75 YARDER. 18 FOR 50 BEYOND THAT. LETS TALLY THE BAD ONES SHALL WE? 1 YARD ON 1ST AND 10. SAME AGAIN NEXT DRIVE. 5 YARD LOSS, 2 YARD LOSS, 1 YARD ON 2ND AND 2, 2 ON 1ST AND 10, 3 YARD LOSS. OOF IF THIS WAS DON WE KNOW HOW THE STORY WOULD GO. LOL.

We defined Boom-Bust last September, and you asked for an example. Then I gave you each of the Don's carries against ohio
Delete2.8ypc, behind an OL that won the Joe Moore Award for a second straight year, including a Rimington Center. Oh, and at QB he had a future top1o pick on his 11th Start, two WRs who would be drafted, and the first TE picked in last year's draft
You claimed I cherry picked, so I did the TCU game: 2.9ypc without the Boom, and needed a converted linebacker to take a goal line carry because Don couldn't do it
That's two of Don's three starts, a clear majority that signaled what we ended up with in 2o23 & 2o24 (bust & back to the bench)
Haynes was at 2.7ypc without the Boom, behind an OL that lAnKt0bY questions & criticizes from personnel management to playing time, and had all three IOL pushed back into the backfield at least once, plus a team Captain injured. The QB a TrFR in his FIRST ROAD START, with no pLaYmAkErS at WR and two TEs injured

THE OL LOOKS ENCOURAGING THIS YEAR, AS POINTED OUT EARLY IN THE YEAR. YOU WANT TO HIT THE PORTAL NEXT YEAR. OTHERS SEE GROWTH AND OPTIMISM AHEAD. LAST YEAR IT WAS A CHAOTIC MESS. THE CRITICISM WAS THERE. THIS YEAR NOT SO MUCH. DESPITE INJURIES AT OG THE CENTER AND BOTH TACKLES HAVE LOCKED IN, IMPROVED FROM LAST YEAR. NOT JOE MOORE BUT THE NEEDLE IS POINTED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND EVEN WITH INJURIES THERES NO CHAOS LIKE WITH GENTRY OR GIUDICE IN 24. NO FRESHMAN BEING THROWN INTO THE FIRE EITHER THATS A RED FLAG, THO YOU LIKE IT. SO....

"The run offense seems to be in "boom or bust" mode. In the past (IE- 2022 OSU), the boom or bust was due to defenses playing in an unsustainable way. For the year up to now, do you see our boomshappening because of things the defenses are doing to try and stop us, and the defense gets got, or is our running game more mid than we would like, and we have been able to get lucky with a few long plays? How sustainable is it to rely on breaking multiple long runs a game?"

DIFFERNENCE IN OL IS ACTUALLY NOT A BAD ARGUMENT. WAY MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE RB. SO THAT'S RELEVANT CONTEXT FOR CONSIDERING RUN GAME PRODUCTION ATTRIBUTED TO RB.
I KNOW, I'M AS SURPRISED AS YOU, BECAUSE WELL #YOUKNOW #IKNOW #WEKNOW.
BUT... IF YOU WANT TO TAKE CONTEXT INTO THE MIX COMPARE WHO WE PLAYED. MOST OF EDWARDS 2022 BODY OF WORK WAS OSU, PURDUE, TCU. GOOD TEAMS GOOD DEFENSES. HAYNES IN 2025 INCLUDES 2 OF THE WORST DEFENSES IN THE COUNTRY AND UNDERSIZED NEBRASKA. HAYNES PRODUCTION HAS PREDICTABLY SLIPPED AGAINST OKLAHOMA AND WISC (6.2 AND 6.6 YPC) COMPARED TO 9.9, 7.8, AND 8.8 YPC AGAINST THE TEAMS THAT HAD NO RUSH DEFENSE TO SPEAK OF. SUCCESS RATE PROBABLY AS WELL. CHECK THE PLAY BY PLAY.

A HISTORICAL REMINDER
DeleteTHE GRIPES WITH EDWARDS CAME TO A HEAD IN 23 WHEN....THERE WAS NO BOOM. IF YOURE A BOOMBUST BACK WHO DOESNT GO BOOM YOURE JUST A BUST.
EDWARDS WAS CONSIDERED A STUD RB AND POTENTIAL THOUSAND YARD RUSHER...AS A BACKUP!
IF YOURE A BOOMBUST BACK WHO GOES BOOM, IT'S ALL WELL AND GOOD. IF YOU STOP GOING BOOM ITS A PROBLEM.
MY ARGUMENT IS THAT BOTH STYLES WORK. I STARTED ON THIS SITE ARGUING WITH THUNDER ABOUT VINCENT SMITH AND MICHAEL SHAW. I ARGUED WITH THUNDER ABOUT DEVEON SMITH VS TY ISSAC. I ALWAYS HAVE VALUED THE GUY WHO BREAKS TACKLES, AND GETS TOUGH YARDS, AND IS RELIABLE, AND DOES GOOD USEFUL STUFF WHEN HE ISN'T CARRY THE BALL (IE MOST DOWNS).
BACK THEN THUNDER ARGUED MORE ABOUT YPC. I ARGUED THAT WAS A VERY LIMITED METRIC. YOU STAN HOPPED ON THIS SIDE (LOOK BEYOND YPC) WHEN IT CAME TO EDWARDS. LATE TO THE PARTY, CLAIMING A JEDUB.
SO MAYBE THUNDER WON THE DEBATE WITH ME LOL BECAUSE WITH DONOVAN EDWARDS I SAW THE LIGHT AND SAID "YEAH THIS CAN WORK TOO". IRONICALLY AROUND THE SAME TIME THUNDER FLIPPED ON EDWARDS. ANYWAYS... IM SOLD. I BOUGHT IN. BIG PLAYS MATTER. GOING BOOM MATTERS. EDWARDS WENT BOOM A LOT. MAYBE NOT AS RELIABLE ON A DOWN BY DOWN BASIS, MAYBE, BUT ULTIMATELY HE GETS RESULTS, BECAUSE HE'S SUCH A PLAYMAKER.

CHECK THE TIMESTAMPS, CHECK THE USERNAME, LETS GET SOME FANTASIES UP IN HERE STAN! OBSESS BABY!
For the record, I never said yards per carry was the be all, end all stat. However, it's a pretty good indicator, especially when there's a significant difference between two parties.
DeleteAlso, a big chunk of the argument came when Michael Cox was averaging like 8 yards a carry and every other back sucked. And I didn't even say Cox should be the starter or get a majority of the carries, but that he should get more of a look.
Michael Cox blah blah blah he played in the NFL for a couple seasons, so maybe I was onto something. But it wasn't just the YPC, it was HOW HE LOOKED running the ball. He was fast and he broke tackles, the latter of which was a key component of the argument above.
I think Vincent Smith was overrated by some because of the feel good/underdog story of a 5'6" running back somehow overcoming his size deficiencies to be a quality player, but he was just a guy. Was he tough? Sure. Did he do some fun things a couple times? Sure. Most college RBs are going to do a couple fun things if given enough opportunities.
As is often the case, things are blown out of proportion. My criticism of Donovan Edwards was that he couldn't break tackles, which was true, not that he should be buried on the bench. It's okay to be a #2 back behind an NFL back like Blake Corum. Hassan Haskins is still in the NFL. Kalel Mullings is on the Titans roster but on IR.
Edwards was considered a potential 1,000 yard back because he literally almost got 1,000 yards (he had 991 the year before). It would be crazy to say he wasn't a potential 1,000 yard back, because he was 9 yards away from that achievement already.
A lot of these discussions are sensationalist. "Applebee's isn't my favorite restaurant" is NOT the same thing as "I hate Applebee's."
"Michael Cox should play more" is not the same thing as "Michael Cox is awesome," and "Donovan Edwards is boom/bust" does not mean "Thunder hates Donovan Edwards and thinks he sucks."
Agree with a lot of things said there. Nobody said YPC was the end all be all but it was used as definitive proof in a lot of debates. The rest is ground well covered before. Don't think we'll ever agree on Cox and Smith. Or more broadly, the value of RBs doing things that don't show up in YPC like blocking and receiving and making safeties pay attention.
Delete"Most college RBs are going to do a couple fun things if given enough opportunities." Agree on the statement strongly, but I think it applies to Cox more than Smith. When getting blocks from UofM's OL against tomatocan front 7s he was good. Otherwise he was bad. Easy to look good running in space against future accountants. Not so easy to make plays against Notre Dame or bear down and do the unglamourous work of picking up blitzers. Smith wasn't an elite rusher but he was alright there while bringing a lot to the table otherwise. Two Michigan coaching staffs thought he was a more valuable RB than Cox. Was this the origin of je's #trustthecoaches hashtag? Possibly.
Anyway, had they both transferred to UMass for playing time I bet Cox would have won a third round of head to head competition. But we'll never know because Smith didn't go chasing playing time elsewhere and stayed loyal to Michigan even though he was a backup. I like that about him too.
-L
We discussed Edwards multiple times as well. You keep saying "he did it before" while ignoring that over 500 of the almost 1000 rush yards he got came in 3 games as a starter in 2022. He was not going to start in 2023.
DeleteIf I predicted Davis Warren was going to throw for over 1000 yards in 2025 you could rightfully call my prediction dumb. I could say "he did it before" and while technically true it's also obtuse. Warren is not the starter in 2025, injury or no injury, and we knew that going into the year. Predicting far beyond Warren's history of production as a backup (2021-2023) would be a bad prediction for a guy who was going to be a backup.
Honestly it's kind of ironic that I have ended up defending a guy who has an inflated YPC like Edwards. Because I was the one saying "lets all just simmer down" after he had a YPC higher than Corum in '22. Then when his YPC plummeted in '23, I said "same guy you loved".
-L
Accusation of sensationalism is fair and it isn't. I've certainly been hyperbolic (e.g., RBs don't matter) but you are not immune to making bold statements which I've quoted in my responses.
DeleteNor are you immune from engaging in a defense of your bold statements or even doubling down on them rather than just saying "yeah that was maybe harsh, he brings some good stuff too". For example, Denard "not being a good QB".
You may not have said "I hate Denard Robinson" but your criticisms have gone above and beyond "he's not a great passer". I think that's fair to say. Same with Edwards. Let's not pretend the criticism's were limited to not breaking tackles.
For example you blamed Donovan Edwards amongst others for "not doing his job" as an excuse for Davis Warren (a walk on who is not a good college QB). That's playing favorites to put it kindly. Grading on a curve is perhaps even more kind. Another way to frame it as sensationalist. Here you are blaming some NFL caliber players for a turnover-prone walk-on not getting it done.
https://touchthebanner.blogspot.com/2024/11/oregon-38-michigan-17.html
Edwards got a lot of carries in the NFL preseason and is currently on the Redskins practice squad. He's a good RB. Maybe he's not good enough to run for 1000 yards on ~100 carries, maybe he's not as good as Blake Corum, maybe you don't like his running style (as I didn't like Ty Isaac's or Michael Shaw's), but regardless of all that, he didn't deserve the level of criticism and blame that he got. That's all.
-L
I love Denard Robinson. He wasn't a good quarterback. I've explained why over and over again. He turned the ball over at a high rate and he was not accurate. There's a reason why his only opportunity at the pro level was as a RB. He was a glorified Wildcat QB.
DeleteThe Davis Warren stuff is silly. Everyone knew Davis Warren was a walk-on QB who was limited athletically. I noted from the very beginning that Michigan might have something in Warren, and he turned into a starter. That didn't mean he was anything special as a QB.
Also, other guys f***ed up. That was even acknowledged by the coaches. There were guys running wrong routes, stepping the wrong way, whiffing on blocks, etc. The coaches flat-out blamed Loveland for a bad route and said Edwards went the wrong way against Arkansas State on a play that turned into an ugly INT. The OC was neutered part-way through the year and fired after the year. Why are we still blaming Davis Warren for being unable to do stuff that we knew he was unable to do?
You can't have pro-level guys hanging your walk-on QB out to dry.

I like the kids getting some money for their work but some of the money rumored they are getting seems extreme. Really, even at UM, only the top 5-10 guys are worth more than their scholarship. JAGS. you have to pay top recruits and hope it pays off, so that is a sunk cost. After the top guys, the other guys are getting paid with coaching, scholarships, first class facilities. 70% of the roster is not really worth that, TBH. Guys that would NEVER play in the NFL can get paid NFLish money playing in college. I think Cade was pulling in six figures at Iowa. Beats working insurance for 50K a year 9-5.
ReplyDeleteGood luck paying only 5-10 guys more than scholarship, room and board. Might as well just cut to the chase and join the MAC. lol.
DeleteIn reality you have to pay to keep the guys you developed into starters up from high school, and you have to pay the guys your recruited to be impact players out of the portal. Either way veteran starters are getting paid. If not...you lose.
There's bargains to be had but, usually not for long. Maybe a guy like Bredeson is loyal and not in high demand. Maybe you can get a surprise freshman contribution from a guy like DJ Waller. But if he's good he's going to get paid the next offseason. So Cut The Check.
The old ways are gone or disappearing. It's not the NFL but it is pro football. At least in the Big Ten and SEC.
Basketball is ahead of the curve on this and I think football will follow. You go year by year and everyone is a free agent in the offseason.
Unless they change the rules to incentivize continuity, scholarship, graduation, etc. it is what it is.
The number is more than 5 or 10, but it's not the full roster. The 100+ on the roster partition out into probably three or four tiers of compensation levels. It's NFL-lite, and those with the money to spend will attract the best talent, and those without the money, or not much of it, will fall back to MAC-level teams. Over the next five or so years we're going to see 12 to 18 teams separate from the pack. The next step will be the creation of a super-conference with a big fat media contract, and the road to college football as an NFL feeder program will be nearly complete.
DeleteMichigan will be in that super-conference. It's unlikely Michigan State will.
I think Anon is right about this. It is characteristic of free markets to consolidate and there's not really a lot of controls to level the playing field at this point (like salary cap, draft picks and other elements to encourage parity). It might even be fewer than 12 to 18 who really have the power -- maybe down to half that.
DeleteBut... I don't think they will want to go down to a single super conference. In that scenario youve got top 10 teams hanging around 500. I don't know that that's a ratings optimizer, so I think some of the old system will be retained. 2 super conferences (Big 10 and SEC) may still be the way after some reshuffling. That might look more like pro sports with East/West. There will be some bottom feeders in there like MSU who will be perennial losers but they'll make money on TV, etc. Think Yankees/Royals before the salary cap. Haves and Have Nots.
with scholarships, housing cash, facilities, food, coaching, the average benefit each kid is getting per Grok is 120,000.
DeleteThis was true before NIL as it is now. Nonetheless they were considered to be "playing for free" prior to NIL and many players (more than 5 to 10 on top teams) were getting additional pay under the table. Now that the market is there, guys are going to get paid and that's out in the open.
DeleteTo me it's a bit like complaining about pro athletes getting paid to play kids games. Yes, it's preposterous and ridiculous at face. But we live in a capitalist society and the market is there and the value is there because the sport is so wildly popular. Most have come to terms with the ridiculousness of it and accepted that Aaron Judge makes $50M a year or whatever. CFB is creating a lot of millionaire teenagers. It is what it is.
That NIL money is income, and therefore taxes are owed. I don't know how the actual exchange of money takes place, but I doubt it involves tax withholding and a statement at tax time. The responsibility to anticipate the tax implications falls on the players, and I sure hope someone is advising them of this. I've not yet heard stories of a player coming up on tax evasion charges, but no doubt we will. None of this changes the reality of things, but it's an angle to this NIL thing I've wondered about, and I've read almost nothing about in the various sports reporting.
DeleteYes but no different than a job at McDonalds or whatever. Other than the sums of course. Withholding or no withholding, this is a lesson every young adult has to learn at some point, there's just more at stake for a CFB star than your average future accountant. I will say, having dealt with this with a few young minor league baseball players, mistakes definitely do happen with young relatively rich people mishandling money. Just like young not-rich people LOL.
DeleteFWIW, I do not know but assume that a place like the Michigan athletic department - a big institution with structure and accountability - does better at preparing a group of young men and women dealing with this. At least compared to more individual and less structured environments.
kids gonna be kids and all that, but they can learn the easy way up front or the hard way after making mistakes.
The stakes are just a lot higher because the numbers are so much bigger. Imagine some hot-shot dual-threat QB with a $1M/year NIL deal. That implies a tax owing of over $300K per year, or $1.2M+ over four. Now imagine (1) no taxes paid, (2) the money squandered, and (3) no NFL. That player isn't going to work his way out from under that doing 9-to-5 work.
DeleteThe whole NIL payment system right now is a black box to me. Who actually makes the payments? Are 1099-NEC forms being filed? Does the player get the money directly, or are these things typically set up as trusts? There's a lot of interesting questions about how this works at the nuts-and-bolts level that I don't see being reported anywhere.
Agree Anon that the nuts and bolts are not well reported. Probably in part because most people don't care about tax/accounting details LOL. I wouldn't assume it's all that interesting or unusal other than, again, the larger sums involved for a young person.
DeleteI admit I don't know but I assume that NIL receiving kids are paying taxes. If not -- it would seem like a dumb mistake to have guys repeat over and over again at any institution. If Michigan isn't educating these guys then their agents likely are.
Think about it this way -- if a player was in your scenario and in a $300K tax hole, it would probably make the news somewhere and I imagine there are several dozen guys clearing the $1M mark across CFB. That story would draw some attention, but we haven't seen it.
GAME DAY!
ReplyDeleteI don't expect too much. Wisconsin offense looked awful against Bama & Maryland, and their D hasn't faced a sound run game
- priorities: Dub, get out healthy, and rep the depth chart
- another 1oo for Haynes
- one big pass play
- D crushes badger O
- M, 34 Wisconsin 3
Wink started with an intent on sitting the Secondary back and making plays. They're not good enough for that. Hillman still not wrapping up; Mangham/Berry/Metcalf still bad angles. Thank God for Rod Moore!
DeleteNo sh:t Wink. Bring the LBs up, and force the 3rd String QB beat your Secondary in Man
Cam Brandt lines up wrong? Too inside, no chance to seal the Edge; he's ot any good either. DT76 on the first drive; lots of rotation on D. Peirce is better than Benny
Wisconsin eats half the 1Q, with 4.3ypc and 12ypa
Defense too much time on the field in 1Q. We ran just SIX plays
Not much yards for the Wisconsin bench QB, but on NINE occasions he had targets open ... that's more than we can get
I expected a big pass today, and they open with the flea flicker. Marsh got the start. None of the pLaYmAKeRs of 2o24 matter. FIVE drops for Semaj in five games. Marsh already has more tough catches than all last year's pLaYmAkErS
*I didn't follow Bryce through HS, but would bet a dollar his Tigers had less trouble with catching the ball than our pLaYmAkErS
Opening run, and Haynes jukes & breaks tackles for six ... with that blocking, could have been 2yd loss. Second run is BOOM. He can do BOTH!!! Seven TDs in 4.5 games for Haynes ... better than The Don
#nofeelings
Running 5 v 7 is tough. Not having healthy TEs is painful for the Offense, both running & passing. Only SIX 1st Downs in the Half. On 3rd & 1, Blake Corum jumps & reaches for a 1st Down. Marshall is so tough to bring down
Guanara is an upgrade over Norton. Ofobi looks better as as a run blocker than Week 1, but still a couple rookie mistakes
SpTms (Punt). No upman/shield who can make a play. Trick plays on SpTms are a thing of the past
When was the last time Semaj did anything with a Punt? Was that the only time?
I guess my only hope is that we used "Improvement Week" to prepare for ohio
DeleteOof, Andrew Sprague. His PFF grade may not reach 5o
Gus is blaming the OL, but Klatt is right: why were we running right into loaded boxes? 5 on 7 or 8, all day? Once Chip put air back in the ball, the office clicked
HAYNES: first M player to go for 1ooyds in five games since DRob. And another two TDS, because we don't have to sub him out on short yardage carries. We should have our first Heisman candidate in three years ... even behind a shakey OL

Did Semaj try running up Link's butt on that first screen? Nobody breaks more tackles for 1-2yds than Semaj.
Another TOUGH catch for McCulley, and Sherrone wasn't even going to challenge ... WTF man. TWO very HUGE plays by WR1 in ONE drive, more than any of the pLaYmAkErS had in their CAREER
*and McCulley's were not play design, or matchup, but a DUDE MAKING PLAYS ... over1ooyds for the game!
On the next drive, Bryce throws a (high) LASER, but McCulley is able to reach & grab it ... he & Marsh are 1 & 2. Maybe we should pack the others up for the Portal
If Klein is healthy, he needs more first half targets. That frees up McCulley & Marsh from potential bracket coverage. And ,why TF is Kendrick Bell still getting on the field?
After that first Drive, Defense was GREAT (the last badger drive was against a lot of backups in the Secondary)
Hausman has Semaj hands
How about ROD MOORE?!? He is back!!! Hopefully he takes snaps away from Mangham
GO BLUE
One of the question I had about our coaches was whether they have the ability to build a roster in the NIL era. I was skeptical at the beginning of this year given last year’s spectacle on offense. Count me a believer now. The portal transfer has been great. I shudder to think what our offense would look like without McCulley and Haynes. The freshman has been great too. Bryce, Jayden Sanders and Marsh. Perhaps alot of the current roster issues stem from the recruiting problems during Harbaugh’s last two years.
DeleteAgree FT. Our Tackles didn't play well, but Guards & Center were better against Wisconsin's #1RunD than New Mexico
DeleteHaynes is OMVP. Bryce would be looked at as "elite" (already) but for the insane number of drops by guys who are getting too many targets
Marsh and (especially) McCulley looked great. We added much more than sIzE at Receiver:
Hands + Vertical + YAC = Playmakers (yesterday)
The Harbaugh era ended without options at QB, WR, and a lot to work on at OL. We're playing catch-up, but seem to be pre-Covid MICHIGAN again
