2023 Season Countdown: #29 Tyler Morris

Tyler Morris

Name: Tyler Morris
Height:
5'11"
Weight:
185 lbs.
High school:
La Grange Park (IL) Nazareth Academy
Position:
Wide receiver
Class:
Sophomore
Jersey number:
#8
Last year:
I ranked Morris #93 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He caught 3 passes for 25 yards.
TTB Rating:
 83

Morris tore his ACL during the spring COVID season of 2021, which also knocked out his senior season in the fall of 2021. It was a very unfortunate way to finish out his high school career. He enrolled in the spring of 2022, but with some veteran receivers ahead of him and having missed a year of football, it was unlikely he was going to play much last season. He played in eight games and caught 3 passes for 25 yards.

There have been some rumblings this spring and summer that Morris is going to have a breakout fall. He played with J.J. McCarthy in high school, so they already have a built-in connection. Michigan lost leading wide receiver Ronnie Bell to the NFL Draft, so the team needs to replace his production. Morris has a decent chance to be the starter in the slot, but I don't see that position turning out the numbers that Bell had (62 catches, 889 yards, 4 touchdowns) with Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson returning on the outside. It's also possible that Michigan uses running back Donovan Edwards a little more in the passing game after he had just 18 catches for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. Johnson will be gone after 2023 and Wilson could be, too, so perhaps 2024 will be a bigger year for Morris.

Prediction: Part-time starting slot receiver; 20 catches, 240 yards, 2 touchdowns

  1. One of the young players im excited to see step into a bigger role. Bell and Wilson each played slot and outside so I expect more of the same from Wilson, Morris, Clemons and anyone else who steps into the rotation

  2. We have a lot of potential, but haven't seen much production, and probably won't this year. Morris got on the field in 22, so that's something ... Clemons is Mr Spring Hype ... Oleary is a fan favorite ... only so many balls to go around, and we have two returning starters, plus two TEs who will get attention ... and that RB7 dude specializes in catching the ball ... we're also a run first, run often Offense

    1. We pass over 40% of the time in the last 2 years despite rarely being down Much more passing when challenged.

    2. last year we passed less than 40%. 2021 we were at 40% sooo ... yessir, it's who we are & have been under Harbaugh

    3. So we pass almost as often as we throw until challenged and then we do both equally

    4. I mean, if the math don't work, try "almost"

    5. "We pass over 40% of the time in the last 2 years". Fact.

The difference between a pass heavy and a run heavy offense is not all that big. Like sparky Anderson used to say about MLB. You win 60 you lose 60, it's what you do with the other 42. In football you run 4 out of 10 times and pass 4 out of 10 times. 1 of 5 plays change the narrative. But it's still 1 in 5 plays.

For how much you focus on running backs carrying the ball it's pretty notable that that only happened 28 out of 75 plays against TCU. With a big lead it's going to be more of course but harbaugh is not a fool. Michigan is a balanced offense. They call plays to fit for context. Osu will run a lot with a big lead too.

    6. Sparky Anderson 😂 ... we're not talking about a sample size of 5 Lank ... near 1ooo

Let's try context. How much does TCU run v pass? ohio (they get big leads too)? How about UGa, with an amazing OL, stacked RB room, and a reliable but not elite QB?

I expect spin & misleading statements, since "almost" was followed by sparky and an anecdote of miniscule comparison

"We pass over 40% of the time in the last 2 years. Fact."

      MGoBlue stats:
      2022 - 600rush v 370pass (62% run)
      2021 - 575rush v 395pass (60% run)

We already had "almost," and silly & irrelevant quotes, but had to move onto lies ... I'm out

      No lies told.

The point was we're talking about a difference on 1 out of every 5 plays. And that difference is typically via the QB running not RB. Your harball narrative is overblown

    9. it takes a special kind of lie to ignore the team's website, find something online that comes closer, and then purposefully toggle the year to 2021 & 2020(lol) and fit your "last two years" lie, skipping 2022😂

I won't do this Lank. Enjoy your Sunday sir. GO BLUE

    10. It says 2022 right in the link. You have no evidence, just straight up lying. Confronted with facts, more of the same. That's all you got.

    11. Last year was the only year of harbaugh that we fell below 40% passing, and that was barely. One out of 8.

Why? Because we played an extra cupcake and held big leads most of the season.

    12. The link does read 2022 ... why? Is it, for college season 2021-22, like the school year? Certainly you would know this because ...

What seasons did the link capture? Why would you overlook the 2022 season?

How does your 40% threshold compare to the rest of the conference? Playoff contenders?
How does it compare to all teams nationally? When did 40% become evidence against the fact that we run first & run often?

Some people just like to argue

    13. harbaugh passes more than 40% of the time which means harbaugh is seaking a balanced offense. Toggle the seasons. Go to my first comment. We run first and pass often.

      Delete
    14. That's not true. Toggle your link to include 2022 ... we did not pass over 40% (which itself is a very low number, nationally)

You're either wrong or lying. Considering you went from insisting that we're balanced to "Harbaugh is seeking balance" says a lot

    15. It is true. I sent you the link. 2022 was the only season we didn't get to 40% passing or higher.

Balance does not mean a perfect split of 50/50. Balance means doing both and being in the 40-60% range is doing both. Harbaugh is firmly there in his time at Michigan and has been there every year except for one where he was at 39.something percent. If you want to say that means that RBs running is the thing that matters above all else that's on you. Except you've been saying that well before 2022 so you don't actually think the 40% point is very meaningful at all.

No lies told. Harbaugh is doing what he wants to do - which is win games. He is a Bo disciple so he wants to control the game on the ground, but he's also a QB who knows that balance is important.

"We pass over 40% of the time in the last 2 years"

And, how is 40% the threshold for balance? Is that a number you picked because we hover around 40 ea year? You still haven't answered:
How does your 40% threshold compare to the rest of the conference? Playoff contenders?
      Nationally?

How about this: since 2015, how many non-Academy programs have run more often than MICHIGAN in consecutive years?
