Mineral (VA) Louisa running back Savion Hiter committed to Michigan on Tuesday morning. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, and others.
Hiter is listed at 5'11" and 200 lbs. As a junior in 2024, he ran 156 times for 1,698 yards (10.8 yards/carry) and 26 touchdowns. He also made 56 tackles, 7 sacks, and 1 interception on defense and returned 3 kickoffs for touchdowns.

Hiter had long been a "top target" for Michigan, but when he was first starting to be recruited, my thoughts were, "Yeah, right. Here's another 5-star kid with early interest in Michigan who will end up going to Penn State or Georgia or Alabama or Ohio State." Michigan just hasn't had a ton of traction with 5-star skill players in the past several years. But then the Wolverines signed Bryce Underwood for 2025 and I thought, "Hmmm . . . maybe." And when Javian Osborne, another top Michigan target, committed to Notre Dame, I thought the coaching staff would turn up the dial on Hiter. It always seemed like a Michigan-Tennessee battle, in fact, but Georgia and Ohio State were the other two finalists. Then after a long wait, Hiter finally committed to the good guys at a press conference on Tuesday.
The first thing that stands out to me about Hiter is his acceleration. He goes from zero to sixty in two steps. You can see on several of his highlights where he has some patience until he sees the hole, and then he's through the hole. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but it's NFL-level acceleration. Add to that an ability to stop and start, make jump cuts, and bounce off tacklers, and he's about as complete of a back as one can hope to find.
I'm not even going to put in a "negatives" section because I'm not sure there's a point. Hiter may not end up running a 4.3 forty, but he's plenty fast enough, and his defensive highlights show me a guy who's going to be tough.
Overall, Hiter looks like a very good addition to Michigan's backfield and he should be a star. It's hard to come up with a Michigan comp, because he's slower than Tyrone Wheatley, bigger than Blake Corum, tougher than Chris Perry, shiftier than Anthony Thomas, faster than Mike Hart, etc. But much like all of them, he should be fun to watch.
Michigan now has two running backs in the class, where Hiter joins Ohioan Jonathan Brown. Michigan has never had a player from Louisa County High School. They are doing well in Virginia recently, though, where they have also landed cornerback Shamari Earls, linebacker Markel Dabney, safety Andre Clarke, and wide receiver Travis Johnson in the 2025 and 2026 classes so far.
Let's GOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteDRob level excitement when this kid has the ball
Way to go Coach Moore & Staff 〽️
I think, "Blake Corum but bigger" works here.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. And let us not ever allow Fred Jackson's Michigan legacy to decline in our hearts and in our minds.
DeletePretty fun film. The burst really is special.
Nice quicks, lateral movement, vision. He seems to have just "good speed" top end speed but he is running away from the CB's when he gets into the open field and might be faster than what he looks. I don't know the level of competition here, ( That HS is out in the country) and if the CB's on film are JAG's.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, the OL, whoof!, they are road graders. Those boys are knocking people off the ball. Maybe sign a couple of those boys.
