97 yards for Giles Jackson 💨💨 pic.twitter.com/CZWwtUouGI
Maryland just scored.

Michigan has a pre-planned play for the pooch kick and they execute it *to perfection*. Michael Barret sells the run, then throws a dime to Henning who out races the field.
Well scouted. Well run. pic.twitter.com/9rWnKgKa6U

The last time Maryland was on the schedule, Donovan Edwards broke out as a pass-catcher. 👀#TouchdownTuesday x @DEdwards__ pic.twitter.com/Dk8PS2HMFc

ReplyDeleteA favorite Michigan back. From the day when #42s had a tendency to screw up in life.

DeleteTony Boles, WXYZ's athlete of the week Looks a little banged up here.
"Cade McNamara 77-yard TD pass to Donovan Edwards (2021)" -- how much of that was in the air, and how much was YAC? I recall McNamara having a decent-enough arm out to about 30 yards, but I don't recall him being able to chuck 50+ yard bombs downfield.
ReplyDelete"Wilton Speight 56-yard pass to Chris Evans (2016)" -- the great "what might have been" from the past: how Speight may have developed had he not been injured. I don't think he ever would have been a superstar, but he seemed a pretty decent QB, and at the time of his injury it seemed Harbaugh was beginning to trust Speight a bit more each game.
Michigan to beat Maryland by more than 14.5 points today. Even without our top 2 RBs. For this game, RB will not matter. Kundzal to get more than 100 yards rushing. Bryce Underwood will be the short yardage back and will score 2 rushing TD. Go Blue!
ReplyDeleteCarnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith are both out for ohio today, but they're playing rutger ... it doesn't mean WR doesn't matter, even for Ryan Day's offense
DeleteSo I agree: we should run right through Maryland's poop runD today, even if Brady Norton gets some carries
In the MGo Preview, they joke that even the mascot could rush for 1oo against the terps
It's been awhile since we covered the spread, but this Maryland squad is reeling: I'll go with 31-13
So far, so good!
DeleteKuzdal has good vision and great patience & balance ... dude isn't tripping on grass
Behind the same OL, against the same Defense and on the same day, Kuzdal >>> Parker
#RBmatters
Bredeson is our passpro RB. Why not Kuzdal or Parker? Because RB matters
Bryce put some air under that first TD pass!!!
Only bad pass was the laser a foot over McCulley's jumping reach. Lucky to not have a pick6
*that late Sack was on Frazier. No need to rush that final play; coaches gotta do better
Hillman wrapping up again. Patient & sound fundamentals in tackling Washington early on. Two months ago that would have been a TD
Jaiyre is good, but not great. Definitely not elite. Beaten not by a fIfTy-fiFtY jUmP bALL, but a sweet pass with just enough arc
*our passD better hope Tate & Smith are out for The Game
With only three PR attempts for Marsh, it's obvious we left Semaj back there far too long
Jaiyre got beat bad again (four times today); lucky to have two overthrows
DeleteCam Brandt plays FAAAR too much. Just not good
no Hausman, no problem. Maybe LB doesn't matter?
OL bullied the Terps all day! Great for confidence
Bryce had another beauty to Klein. Just excellent touch
Max Bredeson injured and Hoffman takes over. No problem. Captains don't matter?
Jasper Parker gets a few 3Q plays and a couple carries, but for the TD run, Kuzdal gets it. There's a clear pecking order, because RB matters
Ka'apana is still on the team? I didn't know that
Brady Norton sighting. Peyton OLeary too. Nice
as expected, McCulley's single season has passed Tyler Morris career in Yards, YAC and tied him in TDs. Still two game to go!
IT'S RIVALRY WEEK. GO BLUE
If there is a positive out of the injuries to our top 2 RBs, it is that walk-ons like Kundzal and O’Meara get meaningful carry in a Big Ten game. Kundzal should get a game ball from this game and will have a story to tell his grandchildren about.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, if Jordan Marshall and Max Bredeson are out next week, I do not think we stand a chance of beating Ohio. The (only?) way to beat Ohio is to play a slow clock-bleeding running game and win a 14-10 kind of game. Top to bottom, Ohio has more NFL prospects than Michigan but we can still win the game if we have our top notch running attack. But without 3 of the main players, I think it is going to be an impossible task.
For games like this, it's great for the bench guys, but especially our OL. They must have their confidence at full throttle
DeleteI'd also mention Bryce. Last week I made some points about maturing he needed, but WOW. With the run game taking a roster hit, he played his best game and showed more then arm strength. All but one pass was good, and almost all were really good. A few were nothing short of impressive
For The Game, look at the weather: cold, wet & snowing (should help our pass D ... I've got 2o21 vibes. Maybe it's the fanatic in me, but I think we've got just as much of a chance
GO BLUE

DeleteRegarding Kuzdzal, I think he's got some actual juice. He might have more games like this down the road, whether it's for Michigan or another school (which is weird to say). So he'll be able to tell his grandchildren about this...but he also might have a few more stories before it's all said and done.
I won't completely dismiss Michigan's chances of winning, but yeah. I feel like Michigan's injury situation isn't terrible, because some guys have got hurt and since got healthy (Klein, Sullivan, Rolder, etc.). But basically the starting backfield is gone (Haynes, Bredeson) except for the quarterback, who is a true freshman. And the offensive line includes three true freshmen. It's going to be a very tall task to beat OSU, but we said that last year when Michigan was 6-5 (and in previous years).
I like Kuzdzal too. He does some nice things. Behind blocking he shifts gears and sells cuts he isn't gonna make. More than a couple guys stepped right into the wrong side a of block only because he just plain lied about where he wanted to go. He is also solid when it comes to seeing where the space is gonna happen.
DeleteWho knew?
Somebody here wants bad weather.
DeletePersonally, I prefer Blue skies for The Game.
Yeah, I'm liking the vision on Kuzdal, and for a speedster, his patience is even more impressive. Dude trusts his blockers
DeleteOf course I want bad weather. Minimizing the impact of Smith did wonders last year. Young Sayin will have the toughest road environment of his career, so the wet & cold will only add to the California boy's obstacles
Finally, in a low-scoring slogger, who's run game is better? I think that's our best chance
@ Roanman 11:01 a.m.
DeleteYeah, Kuzdzal is doing a lot of good things. The patience on some of his inside runs is honestly better than Donovan Edwards had in his first three years on campus, and he also doesn't even go 100% on his outside zone attempts until he sees a crease. That TD run on tight zone against Maryland was some nice patience and vision, too, although it was a huge hole, so credit to the OL.
The big thing with Kuzdzal is his lack of power. He doesn't run through tackles and/or fall forward like Marshall and Haynes. So if the OL doesn't create space, he's going to have a tough time. So he's a little bit like Edwards in that respect.
Drake Johnson is a better comp in my opinion. Runs tall, is fast. Not the strongest guy in the room
