Ex-Wolverine Coach Updates: February 16, 2026

With the end of the NFL cycle taking place and Michigan's recent coaching transition, there have been a lot of changes for former Wolverine coaches and players in the coaching world:

Joe Bolden, Defensive Coordinator (Southern Mississippi): Bolden finished his first season at Southern Miss as the special teams coordinator and then was promoted to defensive coordinator in December.

Adam Braithwaite, Safeties Coach (Cincinnati): Braithwaite finished his first season as the safeties coach for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Anthony Campanile, Defensive Coordinator (Jacksonville Jaguars): Campanile finished his first season as an NFL defensive coordinator. The Jaguars are 13-4 and in the playoffs, and they finished the regular season #11 in yards allowed per game (303.6).

Kirk Campbell, Offensive Analyst (Los Angeles Chargers): Campbell is in his first season with the Chargers.

Steve Clinkscale, Defensive Backs Coach (Los Angeles Chargers): Clink finished his second season with the Chargers.

Ross Douglas, Wide Receivers Coach (Oregon): Douglas finished his first season as Oregon's wide receivers coach after spending 2024 at Syracuse.

D.J. Durkin, Defensive Coordinator (Auburn): Durkin was elevated to head coach after Hugh Freeze was fired mid-season, and then Durkin was retained as defensive coordinator by new head coach Alex Golesh.

Mike Elston, Defensive Line Coach (Los Angeles Chargers): Elston finished his second season with the Chargers.

Ron English, Co-Defensive Coordinator (Louisville): English had been co-DC at Louisville since he came over with Jeff Brohm in 2023, but he is taking time off from coaching in 2026 to watch his son Seth's senior season playing for the Navy football team. Seth had 13 tackles in four games this past fall.

Dan Enos, Quarterbacks Coach (Wake Forest): Enos just finished his first season as Wake Forest's quarterbacks coach.

Lou Esposito, Defensive Line Coach (Baltimore Ravens): Esposito moved on to be the defensive line coach for the Ravens after former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter went from the Chargers defensive coordinator job to the Ravens head coaching job.

Jedd Fisch, Head Coach (Washington): Washington went 9-4 this past season, Fisch's second in Seattle. They finished the year with a 38-10 win over Boise State.

Larry Foote, Defensive Run Game Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach (Tampa Bay Buccaneers): Foote has been coaching in some capacity with the Bucs since 2019. The Bucs finished 8-9 this year and missed the playoffs.

Darrell Funk, Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach (Indiana State): Funk is back at Indiana State, where he previously coached in 2017, to help out his old buddy Curt Mallory.

Allen Gant, Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach (Fordham): Gant finished his second season as defensive coordinator for Fordham, but he is no longer with the Rams.

Josh Gattis, Offensive Analyst (Syracuse): Gattis is now an offensive analyst for Syracuse.

Tony Gibson, Head Coach (Marshall): Marshall went 5-7 in Gibson's inaugural season as Marshall's head coach.

Harold Goodwin, Assistant Head Coach/Run Game Coordinator (Carolina Panthers): Goodwin finished his second season with the Panthers.

Jay Harbaugh, Special Teams Coordinator (Seattle Seahawks): Harbaugh is a Super Bowl champion after the Seahawks beat the Patriots.

Jim Harbaugh, Head Coach (Los Angeles Chargers): Harbaugh is in his second season with the Chargers. The Chargers finished 11-6 and #2 in the AFC West, making the playoffs for the second straight season.

Mike Hart, Running Backs Coach (Boston College): Hart spent last season as an analyst at Eastern Michigan and is now moving back to position coaching under Bill O'Brien at B.C.

Ben Herbert, Executive Director of Player Performance (Los Angeles Chargers): Herbert is in his second season with the Chargers.

Brian Jean-Mary, Linebackers Coach (Notre Dame): Jean-Mary will be coaching at Notre Dame in 2026 after taking over for Al Washington (see below).

Cato June, Assistant Linebackers Coach (Indianapolis Colts): June finished his first season with the Colts after spending time at Bowling Green State.

Kevin Koger, Tight Ends Coach (Atlanta Falcons): Koger finished his second season with the Falcons, but head coach Raheem Morris was let go at the end of the season, leaving Koger's job up in the air as they search for a head coach. On the plus side, tight end Kyle Pitts had the best season of his career with 88 catches for 928 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Jordan Kovacs, Safeties Coach (Cincinnati Bengals): Kovacs finished his second season as the Bengals safeties coach.

Mo Linguist, Co-Defensive Coordinator (Alabama): Linguist finished his second season at Alabama.

Scot Loeffler, Quarterbacks Coach (Philadelphia Eagles): Loeffler finished his first season with the Eagles after being head coach at BGSU.

Mike Macdonald, Head Coach (Seattle Seahawks): Macdonald is a Super Bowl champion after beating the Patriots.

Curt Mallory, Head Coach (Indiana State): Indiana State finished the season on a three-game losing streak and went 3-9 for the 2025 season.

Roy Manning, Edges Coach (Nebraska): Manning spent the 2025 season at San Diego State and has since been hired to coach the edge defenders at Nebraska.

Ben Mason, Tight Ends Coach (Fordham): Mason, who coached running backs at Ithaca, is headed to Fordham to coach tight ends.

Mike McCray, Linebackers Coach (Central State): McCray finished his first season with Central State after being with UMass from 2022-2024.

Jesse Minter, Head Coach (Baltimore Ravens): Minter was recently hired away from being the Chargers defensive coordinator to be the new head coach for the Ravens.

Jerry Montgomery, Defensive Line Coach (Cincinnati Bengals): Montgomery finished his first season coaching for the Bengals.

Desmond Morgan, Safeties Coach (Memphis): Morgan finished his first season as the safeties coach at Memphis following a few years as an analyst.

LaMar Morgan, Defensive Backs Coach (Oklahoma): Morgan has moved on to coach Oklahoma's defensive backs.

Grant Newsome, Assistant Offensive Line Coach (New York Giants): After being let go by new Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham, Newsome is now an assistant offensive line coach for the Giants, who are now coached by John Harbaugh.

Shaun Nua, Defensive Line Coach (USC): Nua finished his fourth season with USC, and there has been some talk that he could potentially be promoted to defensive coordinator now that D'anton Lynn has left for the coordinator job at Penn State.

Ryan Osborn, Defensive Line Coach (Oklahoma State): Osborn finished his first season with the Cowboys.

Chris Partridge, Linebackers Coach (Seattle Seahawks): Partridge finished his second season coaching for the Seahawks and is now a Super Bowl champ

Denard Robinson, Quarterbacks/Running Backs Coach (Lead Prep Academy): Robinson is coaching at Lead Prep in Brighton, MI, for the second year.

Rich Rodriguez, Head Coach (West Virginia): Rodriguez went 4-8 in 2025 during his first season back in Morgantown.

Dylan Roney, Outside Linebackers Coach (Los Angeles Chargers): The former Michigan walk-on, recruiting assistant, and grad assistant is now coaching NFL outside linebackers under Jim Harbaugh.

James Ross III, Defensive Run Game Coordinator/Outside Linebackers/Defensive Ends Coach (Houston): Ross finished his second season with Houston.

Roy Roundtree, Wide Receivers Coach (Temple): Roundtree finished his first season as Temple's wide receivers coach. The Owls went 5-7 and missed a bowl game. Three receivers finished with 38+ catches and 414+ yards.

Adam Stenavich, Offensive Coordinator (Green Bay Packers): Stenavich finished his fourth season as the Packers offensive coordinator and has been coaching in some capacity with the team since 2019.

Ed Warinner, Head Coach (Avila University): Warinner has been named head coach at Avila University, an NAIA program in Missouri.

Edward Warinner, Safeties Coach (Indiana State): Warinner, who spent one year at Michigan when his dad Ed Warinner was the offensive line coach, is now a safeties coach at ISU.

Al Washington, Linebackers Coach (Miami Dolphins): Washington will be coaching the Miami Dolphins linebackers in 2026 after moving on from Notre Dame.

Tyrone Wheatley, Head Coach (Wayne State): Wheatley went 0-11 this past season at Wayne State and resigned from the position in early February. He went 5-28 in three seasons.
