Highlights: 1989 Michigan vs. Seton Hall

For those of you who, like me, are too young to remember Michigan's national championship victory over Seton Hall in 1989, here are some highlights:

  1. "Basketball school" is said as wry joke these days but really not anything different for most of the last 40 years (at least) if you are talking about national title contention.

Terry Mills and Rumeal Robinson were national all-americans in 1986. That 89 team was loaded with NBA players but also started a glue guy in Griffin who reminds me of the wing version of Eli Brooks today. Or Michael Curry for Pistons 2000's Pistons fans.

  2. I remember it! The thing I remember the most is PJ Carlisimo grabbing his head when Rumeal Robinson was fouled with 3 seconds to go. I saw him in an interview years later. He was asked why he did that. He said he told the team during the last time out, "Don't foul Rumeal Robinson." He said something like he grabbed his head because he knew right then Michigan was going to win.

    1. Haha, yeah I remember ol PJ's reaction!

After 89 and pulling the Fab5 class, I really thought we had NC rings coming
