Let's see more of this guy . . . Andrel Anthony. Anthony pulled a Ricky White and came out of nowhere to have a huge game. He caught 6 passes for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both touchdowns were spectacular, with one 93-yard catch-and-run and a Moss-ing.

Let's see less of this guy . . . Daylen Baldwin. Baldwin played sparingly, but I've been critical of his lack of knowledge of the little things. He's a good athlete who isn't really a great receiver right now. Anthony seems to have more of a knack for route running, high-pointing the ball, etc. Baldwin is still a great guy to have on the team, but it's not a great thing if he's a starter.
Let's see more of this guy on defense . . . Taylor Upshaw. Upshaw's playing time this season seems to have taken a hit. With more size and experience, he should be playing more over Jaylen Harrell. I would like to see the Wolverines have a three-man rotation at outside linebacker with Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo, and Upshaw.
Let's see less of this guy on defense . . . Jaylen Harrell. Harrell isn't playing terrible, but he's a redshirt freshman who still has some maturating to do, both mentally and physically. I was glad he was playing early in the season to get him some experience, but I think Michigan needs to tighten up its rotation now that the opposition has improved.
Play of the game . . . Cade McNamara to Andrel Anthony on a 93-yard catch-and-run. For Michigan's first touchdown of the game, McNamara hit Anthony on a crossing route. I had some questions about Anthony's speed coming out of high school, but not after he turned up the field and raced down the sideline with no MSU defensive back gaining an inch of ground on him.

MVP of the game . . . Cade McNamara. In addition to the above 93-yard touchdown, McNamara also hit Mike Sainristil for a 19-yard touchdown. He finished 28/44 for 383 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. The interception was in a crucial situation late in the game, but at that point, Michigan was forced into throwing the ball. Those 383 yards are the most yards a Michigan quarterback has had since . . . 2019 when Shea Patterson threw for 384 yards . . . against Michigan State.

The answer is that it all depends on whether or not the team wins the game and in this particular game 'cause Michigan LOST! No one is awarded an MVP Michigan Game Trophy. Michigan Football hasn't quite yet gotten to the point where short bus riding Participation Ribbons are handed out piecemeal cause you didn't win.
However, I wouldn't be averse to the Game MVP going to the Spartan running back. (we know which one so name not necessary)
"Plays of the game don't go to bad plays." This is somewhat inconsistent logic given that you're handing out an MVP Award in a team sport in a losing cause.........

I'd like to see more of Smith and Hinton. Because I think we need to ease up on the DL substitution patterns. Indiana isn't going to test this but I bet PSU will and I'd bet the farm on OSU exploiting it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think of Harrell and Upshaw playing the same position. I thought Harrell rotated with Ojabo and Upshaw with Morris.
