I'm going to go ahead and disagree with Dylan holt on that. But if Milton can find consistency the NFL will take note.
ReplyDeleteThings appear to be going the other way early for McCaffrey and there are rumblings dad will have to replace him with the new guy.
I wish them both well but I have so much more respect for how Milton handled 2020 than McCaffrey.

ReplyDeleteDon't expect another Zach Charbonnet anytime soon. Good player, likely to play in the NFL, but read these quotes and you can guess how things played out in AA when Hart managed Evans, Corum, Haskins, and Charbonnet time share.

Charbonnet is a good player but Hart seems to prefer players more like himself - high character, resilient, not very big, not highly ranked. That fits with Harbaugh too.
This also fits with the decrease in scholarships going to the backfield (about half of what we had in years past.) If you recruit guys who are going to stick around you don't have to recruit as many of them. Less turnover, more reliability.
Hart was also pretty clear that he doesn't think size is very important in the goalline back role. It's likely going to be Corum or Edwards.
I would not think size is that important for goal line situations. If that were the case, they could just have a 300 pound DT practice carrying the ball. It seems to me the better short yardage back is someone agile enough to get to the line quickly, and squeeze through whatever small holes are available at that moment.
DeleteMichigan has had success with various backs near the goal line, including the 225 lb. Haskins and FB/TE types like Ben Mason and Khalid Hill. There have been a whole bunch of small-ish running backs at Michigan, and I would take Haskins, Mason, and Hill over most of those smaller guys near the goal line. It's tough to stop 225+ pounds when you only need 1 or 2 yards for a score.
