Hollywood (FL) Chaminade-Madonna cornerback Chris Ewald, Jr., a 2025 prospect, committed to Michigan on December 16, 2022. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma, Penn State, and USC, among others.
Ewald is listed at 6'0" and 160 lbs.

Ewald committed to Michigan shortly after his sophomore season. He comes from a perennially talented program that Michigan has been trying to delve into for years and years, but they have been unsuccessful up to this point (and there are still two years until National Signing Day for the 2025 class, so there are no guarantees in this one, either). Offers have kept coming for Ewald since he committed almost two months ago, and it will be a battle to keep him in the fold.
Ewald is a prototypical cornerback prospect, in my opinion. At roughly 6'0" and 160 lbs. (some sites have him at 6'1" and 165), he's big enough to match up with bigger receivers, but he maintains his quickness and change of direction skills. Ewald can flip his hips with ease, and he comes out of his turns low and with speed. He also does a nice job of taking proper angles to attack the front hip of the receiver, allowing him to fight for and make plays on the ball. His instincts are above average, and he has the speed to be a playmaker.
Ewald is still young and needs to continue adding bulk. I'm also interested to see if he develops with the ball in his hands to see if he can be more dangerous, perhaps expanding his role to kickoff or punt returns. While he is fast and changes directions well, he does not show much of an ability to be elusive once he gets both hands on the ball.
Overall, Ewald is a great piece to have if he sticks with his commitment. He appears to be a top-notch cornerback prospect with physical toughness at the point of attack, ball skills, and good instincts. He would be a candidate to play as a freshman in 2025, but again, that's looking three seasons into the future.
Ewald is Michigan's first commitment in the class of 2025. The Wolverines have never had a player from Chaminade-Madonna, which has produced a few famous football guys, including NFL receiver Hollywood Brown, NFL linebacker Jon Beason, and former NFL coach David Shula, the son of Hall of Fame NFL coach Don Shula. At one time, Michigan had a commitment from Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Te'Cory Couch in the 2019 class, but he flipped to Miami.

Highly coveted, this is great. But he's so thin!
