And now we get to the class of 2020 quarterback that everyone thought would turn into a tight end: Dan Villa- . . . Josh Beetham! Yes, Beetham graduated in the class of 2020 but did not join Michigan's football team as a walk-on until 2021. He was a 6'5", 220 lb. pocket QB in high school, which naturally seems to lend itself to a transition to tight end. (Full disclosure: Beetham originally committed to Illinois as a preferred walk-on in 2020, but then ended up in Ann Arbor a year later.)
I might be underrating Beetham here, because he joined Michigan's team in 2021 and played against Northern Illinois. That's pretty impressive to play as a walk-on in your first season. However, Michigan has such depth at tight end that I have a hard time seeing him move up the ranks too much, especially when another walk-on (Carter Selzer) is already seeing a fair number of snaps. Perhaps Beetham will be the Carter Selzer of 2023, but for now, I think Beetham is probably going to stay off the radar most of the time.
Prediction: Backup tight end
