Purdue girls are okay.

This week is mad busy . . . again.

  • Denard Robinson throws two picks and continues to give way to Devin Gardner
  • Weakside linebacker du jour gets one pick, Kovacs gets another
  • Michigan gives up 200 yards rushing
  • Michigan 31, Purdue 20

  1. Your caption needs a little work: THAT Purdue girl is okay.

The female student body, as a whole = no thanks.

  2. So with those predictions you are expecting a mediocre day from the defense. Would you consider that a bad sign if that occurs, looking down the stretch?

  3. @ Nick: I realize that the question wasn't so much directed at me but...

I think this is more of a matchup issue than a bad sign. Our defense is slow. This is not ground breaking news. Purdue's offense is primarily spread formation and zone blocking. they run a lot of zone reads and utilize edison (WR) in the run game. if the first half of the northwestern game is any indication, i dont think the defensive personnel are well suited to handle an offense that will spread them out, rather than run at them.

  4. Magnus - I am curious to your thoughts on how the QB sitaution should be handled? Do you think Denard is the answer? or should he playa RB/Slot role and Devin be our QB?

  5. @ Anon 12:46,

Again, wouldn't that seem to indicate the rest of our schedule being the same. Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio, heck Iowa may be the only team who doesn't spread you out.

The defense hasn't shown me yet that they can stop the run consistently. So yes, that is definitely a concern going forward, especially against teams like Ohio State and Nebraska. Purdue doesn't have any great runners, but then again, neither did Western Michigan. I think the defense is better this year, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if Michigan allowed a 100-yard rusher in every game remaining.

I think Denard should remain the quarterback, but I think Devin needs to keep getting reps. Neither one is good enough to be the full-time, unquestioned quarterback. I kind of like what Borges and Hoke have been doing the past couple games.

  8. I honestly think Michigan can win this game w/o Denard throwing any INT's. Why? Run the ball. The only passes we'll need, IMO, are screens and dump offs. Purdue has no way of stopping the run, not with the way Borges is having our offense line up with the dozen different backfield formations. I'm not saying Denard won't throw any picks, but I don't think Michigan will need him to push the ball down field in order to win.
