Given how we flopped in the bowl game (I said on several occasions that a bowl win is so important to recruiting, some of you didn't believe me and called me a Drew Sharp for saying such a blasphemy), I think it would be a feat to keep Peppers on board. The kid is a winner and could be a Woodson-like player for us. We need more winners around.
"The kid is a winner and could be a Woodson-like player for us."
Agreed. Completely. He's one of the biggest recruits in the modern era.
"We need more winners around."
You can never have enough winners around, but what exactly do you mean by "winner?" If you're talking 5-star ability, fine. But if you're questioning the drive and ambition of anyone on the current team, that's another matter. See any losers?
"I said on several occasions that a bowl win is so important to recruiting ..."
Right, but how important? For the Nth time, it's a question of degrees. On a percentage basis, how much do you think that loss mattered to the guys lined up for '14? To the '15s? I'd put the values at 0.037% for the first group and about 5% for the second group. I'd be much more worried about our records against OSU, MSU, and teams (like Iowa) we should be handily beating with our talent base.
"I think it would be a feat to keep Peppers on board."
Criminy. A *feat*? You're pretty much saying that he's gone and only a last-minute effort by Hoke et al. will get him back on board. I'll personally be comfortable only after signing day, so I can understand being jumpy, but I still think his jumping ship is a low-probability outcome. Also, I can see why the Drew Sharp comparisons have been made. Too much drama unsupported by reality ... had you just said "I'm still spooked about Peppers given how poorly our year went" you wouldn't be getting comments like this one.
Thanks for breaking down my 3-line comment into a massive full-page analysis. Didn't bother to read all that, but seems like you have a lot of time on your hands.
great attitude. noted when asked about UM his response "our team". very classy
