MLive: Brady Hoke - Shane Morris isn't ready to be the starter
There's been lots of talk this offseason about sophomore Shane Morris pushing fifth year senior Devin Gardner for the starting quarterback job, but Brady Hoke doesn't seem to think Morris is ready.
Is it just me, or is the linked story really not much of a story? It's not like Hoke is naming the starting QB for this fall. It's just "right now" ... and in two weeks maybe something different. That sounds like typical Hoke-speak.
The simple truth is it's Gardner's position to lose. And I don't think he will. Gardner is the starting QB this fall.
It's not just you. MLive (and probably sports writers in general) try to generate stories when there's not a whole lot to talk about, which includes spring ball. There's only so much they have to write when they can't watch practices and a bunch of the freshmen aren't on campus yet.
Hoke did say something like "We'll see in a couple weeks." But let's be honest - with 1.5 years of starting under his belt, this is Gardner's job to lose.
They say Rosen was in town las night. I'd have to give that one "upset of the year" status and move Nussmeier right up to the top of my list of recruiters were that one to happen.
Maybe this will shut up the recent surge of crazies.

DeleteSo much for the "open competition" for the QB spot.
