ESPN chose the teams for the 2015 Under Armour All-American Game (LINK). It will be played on January 2, 2015, in St. Petersburg, FL and aired on ESPN at 4:00 p.m. Included in the game will be one current Michigan commit,  four guys who decommitted from Michigan, and a lot of Michigan offerees.

Lawrenceville (NJ) Lawrenceville School offensive tackle Grant Newsome committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2015
Nacogdoches (TX) Nacogdoches cornerback Jaylon Lane was offered by Michigan. The 6'1", 177-pounder committed to Oklahoma State in early May and has offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, among numerous others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #22 cornerback, and #195 overall. He claims a 4.44 forty and a 36" vertical. As a junior in 2013, he made 46 tackles, 5 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns), and 1 kickoff return touchdown.

Greensboro (NC) Northern Guilford cornerback Mook Reynolds was offered by Michigan. The 5'11", 170-pounder committed to Virginia Tech in early February and has offers from North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Tennessee, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #25 cornerback, and #272 overall. Reynolds would like to visit Ann Arbor this summer and wants to make a "final decision" in August, so the Wolverines (and other schools) have a chance to move in. Both of these new cornerback offers seem to be related to the recent decommitment of Lakewood (OH) St. Edward cornerback Shaun Crawford.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Elkton (MD) Eastern Christian Academy linebacker Dele' Harding was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'1", 230 lb. prospect with offers from Massachusetts, Tennessee, and USC. He's a Scout 3-star, the #26 outside linebacker, and #280 overall. Harding was a teammate of Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson and has visited Michigan a couple times before, including last summer's camp. Steve Lorenz from 247 Sports immediately put in a Crystal Ball pick for Michigan.

Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep tight end Naseir Upshur was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'3", 232 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Maryland, Pitt, Rutgers, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, among others. He's a 247 Sports 4-star, the #5 tight end, and #166 overall. Upshur is a capable receiver, but his most impressive skill is his run blocking. Despite not being the largest tight end around, he's tenacious and uses excellent technique. Michigan also pursued 2013 running back David Williams (South Carolina) from Imhotep.

OFF THE BOARD
Lakewood (OH) St. Edward cornerback Shaun Crawford committed to Notre Dame. Crawford was previously committed to Michigan, just like I was previously committed to that one girl before that other, prettier girl came along. It turned out she was crazy, though.

Richmond (VA) St. Christopher's CB Garrett Taylor

Here are the initial TTB Ratings for the class of 2015 (ratings explanation).

CB Garrett Taylor - Richmond (VA) St. Christopher's: 85
Taylor has the makings of being a very good player. He has size, speed, leaping ability, physicality, and is reportedly a quality kid. I'm not sure if I see the coverage instincts to pop him up into the 90's, but he should be a very good cornerback or perhaps safety in a few years. (Commitment post.)

CB Shaun Crawford - Lakewood (OH) St. Edward: 79
I like Crawford as a prospect. He has great speed, and he is also very physical for someone his size. I do have some questions about whether he can play man coverage, because he doesn't have a ton of experience doing that in high school. I think a 79 here is a baseline, but if he attends an event like The Opening or the Rivals 5-star Challenge, he could show some of those man coverage skills to sway me upward. (Commitment post.)

S Tyree Kinnel - Huber Heights (OH) Wayne: 74
When I look at Kinnel, I see a high school version of Thomas Gordon. He doesn't wow me with his athletic skills, but he comes up with some solid tackles and seems to be in the right place at the right time. He looks like a solid safety prospect but does not appear to be a star. (Commitment post.)

OG Jon Runyan, Jr. - Natrona Heights (PA) St. Joseph's: 73
Runyan is a decent athlete, but for being the son of a former NFL player, I think he's lacking somewhat in football instincts. He comes out of his stance a little high, doesn't seem to have a great deal of power, and gets overextended at times. As a legacy player, he seems like someone who would stick around, so he would have a while to develop. He's not a player who leaps off the screen, though. (Commitment post.)

Recruiting Update: February 17, 2014

Richmond (VA) Benedictine defensive
end Clelin Ferrell

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2015
Richmond (VA) Benedictine defensive end Clelin Ferrell was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'5", 225 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech, among others. He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 weakside end, and #76 overall. As a sophomore in 2012, he had 60 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks. He plays some linebacker, but he looks like a future weakside end and shows nice burst off the edge. Ferrell is teammates with 2016 wide receiver offeree Scott Bracey and plays in the same league as Michigan freshman quarterback Wilton Speight.

Gardena (CA) Junipero Serra defensive tackle Rasheem Green was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'5", 280 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, UCLA, and USC, among others. He's a 247 Composite 5-star, the #6 defensive tackle, and #17 overall. Michigan went after two of Green's teammates in the 2014 class, but came away empty on cornerback Adoree' Jackson (USC) and linebacker Dwight Williams (UCLA). The favorite for Green appears to be USC, too.

Dallas (TX) South Oak Cliff safety Prentice McKinney, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'2", 180 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Boise State, Maryland, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma, among others. He claims a 4.48 forty, a 240 lb. bench, and a 275 lb. squat. As a junior in 2013, he had 5 interceptions. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #37 safety, and the #589 player overall.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius offensive guard Liam Eichenberg was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'5", 275 lb. prospect whose only other offer is from Ohio State. Eichenberg has stated that he is very likely to stay in the Big Ten. Fifth year senior linebacker Jake Ryan is also from St. Ignatius.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Miamisburg (OH) Miamisburg offensive tackle Josh Myers was offered by Michigan. He's a 6'5", 255 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Myers represents the Wolverines' first offer in the 2017 class. He has a brother who's a redshirt sophomore center at Kentucky and a father who played for the Wildcats, so they're a major player in his recruitment. Of course, as a member of the 2017 recruiting class, his brother will be graduated from UK before Josh arrives.

OFF THE BOARD
Warminster (PA) Archbihop Wood offensive tackle Ryan Bates committed to Penn State. He was just offered by the Wolverine a couple weeks ago and is the #166 player in the class, according to the 247 Composite.

Gaithersburg (MD) Gaithersburg athlete Kamonte Carter committed to Penn State, too. Along with Bates and a defensive back named Jarvis Miller, they became the first three commitments in the 2015 class for the Nittany Lions. Before this past weekend's Junior Day in Happy Valley, Carter previously visited PSU for their overtime win against Michigan, so that had to be a positive game day experience. Carter is a do-it-all high school player, the rare quarterback/defensive end combo. Michigan originally offered him as a SAM linebacker, but at 6'4" and 235 lbs. already, he will likely be a defensive end at the next level.

Washington (DC) H.D. Woodson cornerback DuWayne Johnson committed to Virginia Tech. Johnson had 75 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 18 pass breakups last season.

Virginia Beach (VA) Ocean Lakes athlete Jaason Lewis committed to UCLA. Lewis plays a little bit of everything for his high school team, but at 6'3" and 235 lbs., I have doubts about whether he can stick at wide receiver, which is where some people project him. He looks more like an H-back to me, or perhaps a linebacker. It will be interesting to see how UCLA uses him, and they're not averse to playing players at multiple positions, as they showed with Myles Jack.

MISCELLANEOUS

Cleveland (OH) St. Edward cornerback Shaun Crawford committed to Michigan on Friday afternoon. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Penn State, Tennessee, and West Virginia, among others.

Crawford is a 5'9", 171 lb. prospect who claims a 4.51 forty. As a sophomore in 2012, he had 66 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 3 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. He also had 24 receptions for 438 yards and 5 touchdowns as a slot receiver.

Crawford had long yearned for a Michigan offer, but he had to wait a little while to get it. (By "a little while," I mean after he publicly stated wanting one - anyone who gets an offer during their sophomore year is pretty advanced in the process.) He had claimed that a Michigan offer could very well end his process early, but as we often see, he held off on a commitment after saying that. He took a spring visit to Miami that went well, but it didn't match up to his Michigan experience, so he ended up committing just prior to his junior season.

I see a lot of good things to like about Crawford. As an offensive player, he's shifty and fast enough to run right by most high school defensive backs. If he gets in the open field, you can forget about catching him. But he will probably play defensive in college. As a cornerback, the first thing that jumps out is his tackling ability. Unlike, let's say . . . Cullen Christian or J.T. Floyd, Crawford is a very solid tackler. He does try to throw his shoulder into ball carriers on occasion, which will have to be coached out of him, but generally he wraps up, drives his feet, and gets the most out of his 171 lb. frame. Especially for someone his size, he's about as good of a tackler as you'll find. He has fluid hips and changes direction well. With his low center of gravity, he has the ability to break quickly on underneath routes and cause deflections, fumbles, etc. If he gets the ball in his hands, he can burst upfield through small windows and burrow for some extra yards.

I have some questions about his overall ability as a cornerback. We don't see him much in man coverage; instead, he spends a lot of time in zone, reading plays, coming up to support the run, and causing some havoc underneath. I would like to see whether he can flip his hips to run with receivers in man coverage, and whether he can turn his head to find the ball and make a play. This is not so much a criticism but a curiosity on my part.

In my opinion, Crawford projects best as a nickel corner in Michigan's defense. He's excellent in run support and could presumably be a capable blitzer off the edge with his physicality, even if he's lacking some size. He's physical enough to reroute receivers and fast enough to stay with some of the smaller guys that teams will throw out there in the slot. I also think he would be great as a Cover 2 corner, but Michigan hasn't run a ton of Cover 2 during Greg Mattison's stint as a defensive coordinator. Crawford also has the skills to help out in the return game down the road.

This is Michigan's fifth commitment in the class of 2015 and the first defensive back. He attends the alma mater of redshirt freshman offensive guard Kyle Kalis.

TTB Rating: I will not rate 2015 prospects until the 2014 class wraps up.

Southfield (MI) Southfield defensive end Lawrence Marshall committed to Michigan.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2015
St. Paul (MN) Cretin-Derham Hall defensive end Jashon Cornell was offered by Michigan.  Cornell is a 6'4", 230 lb. prospect with offers from Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, and Wisconsin, among others.  Notre Dame is thought to be the leader because of a couple relatively recent alumni heading to South Bend (WR Michael Floyd, WR James Onwualu), but it's also the alma mater of OT Seantrel Henderson, who first committed to USC before ending up at Miami.  As a sophomore in 2012, he had 52 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles.

Lakewood (OH) St. Edward cornerback Shaun Crawford was offered by Michigan.  He's a 5'9", 170 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Florida State, Miami, Penn State, and Tennessee, among others.  As a sophomore in 2012, he had 66 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 3 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery; he also had 24 catches for 438 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Warren (OH) Harding defensive end Hjalte Froholdt was offered by Michigan.  He's a 6'5", 265 lb. prospect with no other offers at this time.  Froholdt grew up in Denmark and played his first season of football in America (though he played the sport in Denmark, too) as a sophomore last season.  Harding is the alma mater of former Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham, linebacker Prescott Burgess, and linebacker Carl Diggs, as well as a couple recent Michigan signees who flamed out (LB Davion Rogers, WR D.J. Williamson).

OFF THE BOARD
Upper Marlboro (MD) Wise safety Marcus Allen committed to Penn State.  In case you're wondering, I can find no indication that he's related to the  Marcus Allen . . . you know, the one who ran for over 2,300 yards in one season at USC, won the Heisman, and was the second best Los Angeles Raiders running back in Tecmo Bowl.  The younger, unrelated Allen never showed significant interest in Michigan.
