Cincinnati (OH) Winton Woods cornerback Cameron Calhoun committed to Michigan on Saturday. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Cincinnati and West Virginia (he was committed to both at different times), as well as Kentucky, Maryland, and Michigan State.
Calhoun is listed at 6'2" and 180 lbs.

Calhoun was offered by Michigan in October. He decommitted from Cincinnati while visiting Kentucky, so some people immediately jumped to the conclusion that he would become a Wildcat. But he held off on committing and then visited Ohio State for the OSU vs. Michigan game. Immediately following The Game, he pledged to the Wolverines, which reminded me of when offensive lineman Billy Price visited Michigan for the Ohio State game and then picked the Buckeyes shortly afterward.
Calhoun is a long, lanky cornerback. He is an intelligent, technique-oriented player who does a good job of disguising coverages and reading the development of routes. He is a physical player who can come up to tackle and support the run, and he can also blitz off the edge to make plays in the backfield.
What he lacks is great speed and change of direction skills. He's more of a technician than a physical specimen, and he reminds me of Gemon Green in that respect. Green has had a good career in a Michigan uniform, but he doesn't make a ton of interceptions (just 1 so far in his career) and can get beaten deep. Calhoun does not break on short throws particularly quickly, and he needs to work on flipping his hips to react to the ball when it's in the air.
Overall, most Michigan fans would take another Gemon Green, someone who's not a star but has been a solid starter. I think Calhoun can also be a solid, physical corner at the next level. He may need a year or two to physically develop before he's ready to contribute.
Calhoun is the first cornerback to commit in the 2023 class. He's also the first player to commit to Michigan from Winton Woods since linebacker Antonio Poole in the class of 2011.

We need bodies in the secondary and absolutely would endorse another tall CB in the Green/Stribling mold. The nice part about guys who don't have elite speed is they are more likely to stick around 4 years.
