Bellevue (WA) Bellevue tight end Hogan Hansen, a 2024 prospect, committed to Michigan on Thursday. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Colorado, Florida, Miami, Oregon, Washington, and Washington State, among others.

Hansen is listed at 6'6" and 220 lbs.

Hansen - who is no relation to the recently departed Louis Hansen - was offered by Michigan in April 2022 and visited Ann Arbor over the summer.

Hansen is a tall, lanky athlete at this point who has a lot of room to fill out in the coming years. He has good speed and runs with a nice body lean. Bellevue uses him as a tight end in their Wing-T offense, and they split him out or use him as an H-back in their spread looks. His speed is enough to stretch the field vertically against high school teams, and he does a nice job of adjusting to balls thrown over his shoulder and using his hands to snag the football.

There may need to be more of an emphasis on putting his hand in the dirt and learning to block; as of right now, he looks a little bit uncomfortable coming out of a three-point stance to do anything other than release vertically on pass routes. His blocking will need to improve, and he will have to widen his base.

Overall, I see no reason to expect that Hansen would not be able to develop in Michigan's offense other than a lack of bulk/strength. His athleticism and length should be an asset. The first Michigan player that popped into mind was Tyler Ecker, who played at Michigan from 2003-2006 and made 57 catches for 695 yards and 6 touchdowns with quarterbacks John Navarre and Chad Henne. Ecker was drafted by the (then) Washington Redskins in the 7th round.

Hansen is the fourth player to commit for the class of 2024, joining offensive guard Luke Hamilton, lineman Manuel Beigel, and linebacker Mason Curtis. He would be the first scholarship player to suit up for the Wolverines since Michigan signed offensive Stephen Schilling in 2006, and Schilling also attended Bellevue; a couple walk-ons from the Evergreen State have played for Michigan in the past decade, including linemen Ben Pliska and Griffin Korican.
