Former CB Cullen Christian: Christian's West Virginia Mountaineers will play the Texas A&M Aggies in the Liberty Bowl on December 29th. Christian has made 5 tackles this year.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley, former DT Chris Rock: Conley made 1 tackle in Ohio State's 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game. That win propelled the Buckeyes to the #4 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, and they will play #1 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st.

Former CB commit Dallas Crawford, K commit Matt Goudis: Their Miami Hurricanes will play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Independence Bowl on December 27th. Crawford has 35 tackles, .5 tackles for loss, and 2 pass breakups this year. Goudis was 4/6 on field goals and 6/6 on extra points this year but a back injury forced him to miss the final ten games of the year.

Former S Joshua Furman: Furman's Oklahoma State Cowboys will play the Washington Huskies in the Cactus Bowl on January 2nd. This past weekend Furman helped upset the Oklahoma Sooners in overtime with a 38-35 victory. Furman made 2 tackles in the game. Ex-Wolverine Updates

Former DT Richard Ash: Ash had 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 blocked field goal in Western Michigan's 31-21 loss to Northern Illinois. On the year Ash has 40 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 2 pass breakups, and 2 blocked kicks. Western Michigan finishes the regular season at 8-4 and awaits a potential bowl destination.

Former CB Cullen Christian: Christian made 1 tackle in West Virginia's 37-24 win over Iowa State. That's the first time he's appeared on the stat sheet since week five against Kansas, and it gives him a whopping 5 tackles on the year.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley had 1 tackle in Ohio State's 42-28 win over Michigan.

Former CB commit Dallas Crawford: Crawford had 4 tackles and 1 pass breakup in Miami's 35-23 loss to Pitt.

Former RB commit Demetrius Hart: Hart had 23 carries for 115 yards, but #21 Colorado State was upset by Air Force, 27-24. Hart has 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground this season. The Rams finish the regular season with a 10-2 record.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Arizona improved their record to 10-2 with a 42-35 win over #17 Arizona State. It was a back-and-forth affair that started off with Arizona returning a fumble for a touchdown, and then Arizona State returning the favor. It was 21-21 at the half before the Wildcats pulled away a little bit in the second half. Running back Nick Wilson ran for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns, while quarterback Anu Solomon completed 71% of his passes for 2 scores and 0 picks. Rodriguez and his crew will play Oregon for the Pac-12 championship next Saturday.

Former S Ray Vinopal: Vinopal had 6 tackles in Pitt's 35-23 win over Miami.

Ex-Wolverine Updates

Demetrius Hart
Former TE commit Pharaoh Brown: Brown suffered a gruesome knee injury in the game, but prior to doing so, he caught 3 passes for 40 yards and 1 touchdown. Oregon beat Utah by a score of 51-27. Brown's season is presumably over, so he finishes with 25 catches for 420 yards (16.8 yards/catch) and 6 touchdowns. You can watch below, but watch at your own risk:

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley had 3 tackles in Ohio State's 49-37 win over Michigan State. He now has 12 tackles and 1 pass breakup in his redshirt freshman season.

Former RB commit Demetrius Hart: Hart carried the ball 11 times for 115 yards and 1 touchdown in Colorado State's 49-22 win over Hawaii. He also had 1 catch for 9 yards. Hart now has 909 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, averaging 6.3 yards/carry.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez and his Arizona Wildcats beat Colorado by a score of 38-20. Arizona racked up 499 yards on offense, including 153 and and 115 rushing yards by running back Nick Wilson and quarterback Anu Solomon, respectively.

Ex-Wolverine Updates

Former Michigan DT Richard Ash (#9) with his cousin, Rontavious Atkins (image via MLive)
Former DT Richard Ash: Ash had 2 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack in Western Michigan's 41-10 win over Miami-OH. He now has 29 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass breakup, and 1 blocked kick on the season. While looking for a picture to post (which is above), I came across this somewhat enlightening story about Ash's childhood in Florida (LINK).

Former TE commit Pharaoh Brown: The Oregon Ducks usually struggle with Stanford, but not this time. The Ducks beat the Cardinal by a score of 45-14. Brown had 2 catches for 36 yards.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley had 3 tackles in Ohio State's 55-14 victory over Illinois.

Former LB Josh Furman: After a promising 5-1 start to the season, Oklahoma State has lost three in a row. This week they got blown out by Kansas State by a score of 48-14. Furman had 2 tackles in the loss.

Former RB commit Demetrius Hart: Hart had 24 carries for 104 yards and 4 touchdowns in Colorado State's 38-31 win over San Jose State. This seven-game win streak is CSU's longest win streak since 1997. They are now 8-1. San Jose State's defense is coordinated by former Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Robinson.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Arizona scored a touchdown a couple minutes into the game, and then their offense completely sputtered. They lost to UCLA by a score of 17-7. Wildcats quarterback Anu Solomono completed just 18/48 passes for 175 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 pick, and they were held to 80 rushing yards on 31 carries.

Former recruits WR Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss) and LB Kris Frost (Auburn): Neither one was ever committed to Michigan, but both were really, really close. At the end of Saturday's game, Treadwell caught a screen pass and nearly scored a touchdown before Frost tackled him from behind, falling on Treadwell's leg and breaking it in the process. Meanwhile, Treadwell understandably fumbled the ball just inches from the goal line, so while the play was initially ruled as a potential game-winning touchdown, replay determined that it was a fumble recovered by Auburn. The Tigers won by a score of 35-31. WARNING: Don't watch the video if you're squeamish about seeing broken extremities.

Former S Ray Vinopal: Pitt lost a shootout in double-overtime to Duke by a score of 51-48. Vinopal had 7 tackles in the loss. Pitt piled up 358 rushing yards, including 263 from James Conner - who had ZERO negative-yardage plays.

Former DT Richard Ash: Ash made 1 tackle in Western Michigan's 26-14 victory over Bowling Green.

Former TE commit Pharaoh Brown: Brown had 3 receptions for a career-high 99 yards in Oregon's 45-20 victory over Washington. He has 18 catches for 314 yards (17.4 yards/catch) and 3 touchdowns on the season.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley made 2 tackles and 1 pass breakup in Ohio State's 56-17 dismantling of Rutgers.

Former S Josh Furman: Oklahoma State suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of TCU, 42-9. Furman made 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in the defeat. He now has 39 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 1 interception, 3 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble.

Former RB commit Demetrius Hart: Hart's Colorado State team beat Utah State by a score of 16-13. Hart ran the ball 12 times for 60 yards (5.0 yards/carry) and 1 touchdown, and he caught 1 pass for 9 yards.

Former linebackers coach Jay Hopson: Hopson, now the head coach at Alcorn State, went to 6-2 with a 40-25 win over Texas Southern. The two losses came against Southern Mississippi in week two and Grambling State on October 11th. Hopson is 19-12 as a head coach in two-plus seasons.

Former RB Thomas Rawls: Rawls nearly continued his streak of 200+ yard rushing games, but alas, he ended this week's contest with 37 carries for 181 yards (4.9 yards/carry) and 1 touchdown. He also caught 1 pass for 6 yards, but Central Michigan lost to Ball State by a score of 32-29. Rawls passed the 1,000-yard barrier for the season and now has 1,007 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

Former S Ray Vinopal: Vinopal had 3 tackles and 2 pass breakups in Pitt's 21-16 victory over Virginia Tech.

Ex-Wolverine updates: Pre-Season Edition

This used to be Cullen Christian.
TE Chris Barnett: Barnett left Michigan shortly after arriving in 2011, and I have been unable to find any hard updates on him. He supposedly showed interest in playing for UMass this past winter, but he never enrolled there. He also talked about having interest in playing Division II as a middle linebacker.

CB Greg Brown: Brown had transferred to Findlay, but never played a game there in 2012. He has since left the football program and his whereabouts are unknown to me.

TE Pharaoh Brown: Brown is listed as a 6'6", 241 lb. tight end on Oregon's roster. He had 2 receptions for 42 yards in twelve games last season. Oregon has been talking about using more formations with two tight ends to get Brown on the field with Colt Lyerla.

CB Cullen Christian: After having 16 tackles and 2 pass breakups as a corner in 2012, Christian is now listed as a 6'0", 195 lb. backup free safety for the Pitt Panthers. The starter? Former Michigan free safety Ray Vinopal.

CB Gareon Conley: Conley is listed as a 6'2", 170 lb. cornerback on Ohio State's roster. He has been practice some with the starting unit while Bradley Roby has been demoted to a backup for his off-the-field transgressions.

CB Dallas Crawford: Crawford is listed as a 5'10", 196 lb. redshirt sophomore running back on Miami's roster. Last year he had an interception on a fake punt; offensively, he had 6 carries for 23 yards and was 1/2 passing for 29 yards. He will likely be the backup running back to starter Duke Johnson.

S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien is listed as a 6'1", 204 lb. safety for the Toledo Rockets. Last year he had 33 tackles and 1 interception for the Rockets. He will likely start this year at their strong safety/outside linebacker hybrid position.

OT Jake Fisher: Fisher is a 6'6", 291 lb. offensive tackle for Oregon. Last year he was the starter at right tackle, and he even scored a touchdown when De'Anthony Thomas fumbled into the endzone, where Fisher jumped on it.

K Matt Goudis: Goudis is listed as a 6'0", 172 lb. redshirt sophomore kicker for the Miami Hurricanes. Last year he had a 37-yard punt and two kickoffs that averaged 55.0 yards.

S Carvin Johnson: Johnson is listed as a 6'2", 205 lb. safety for Hampton University. Last year he had 57 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, and 3 fumble recoveries. He will likely start this fall.

LB Kellen Jones: Jones is listed as a 6'1", 225 lb. linebacker for Clemson. After leaving Michigan before his freshman season even began, he transferred to Oklahoma for the 2011 season, then sat out the 2012 year after transferring to Clemson, and will now be a backup inside linebacker for the Tigers.

WR Ricardo Miller: Miller is listed as a 6'4", 226 lb. tight end/wide receiver for UMass. With the starting tight end injured to begin the year, Miller will start at TE for the Minutemen.

DE Chris Rock: Rock is listed as a 6'4", 272 lb. defensive lineman for Ohio State after enrolling there in August 2012. Listed as a redshirt sophomore, he is not expected to be a heavy contributor this fall.

QB Kevin Sousa: Sousa is listed as a 6'3", 230 lb. redshirt sophomore quarterback for Wake Forest, but he not listed as one of the top three quarterbacks on the Demon Deacons' depth chart.

OG Caleb Stacey: Stacey transferred to the College of Mount St. Joseph during winter semester and intended to play football this fall. Their roster has not been released, so it's unclear if he's still on the team.

CB Anthony Standifer: Standifer is listed as a 6'1", 175 lb. cornerback on the Ole Miss roster. A blogger for the Rebels ranked him as the #57 most important player for the upcoming season. He had 3 tackles last year.

WR Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes is listed as a 6'0", 200 lb. wideout for Norfolk State, an FCS program. He joins younger brother Malik, a quarterback. Stokes played the last couple seasons at Bowling Green State University.

S Ray Vinopal: Vinopal is a 5'10", 200 lb. starting free safety for the Pitt Panthers. He had 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a redshirt sophomore in 2012.

CB Adrian Witty: Witty is listed as a 5'10", 187 lb. cornerback for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He had 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and a forced fumble last year. It appears he's the front-runner for the starting free safety job this fall.

Gareon Conley, Ex-Wolverine

Gareon Conley
Massillon (OH) Washington cornerback Gareon Conley decommitted from Michigan on Tuesday.  Conley had committed to Michigan back in March.  Defensive coordinator Greg Mattison visited Conley's school this afternoon.

Conley claimed at the time that Michigan was his dream offer, and he has stated at certain points that Washington's coaches don't like their kids to renege on their commitments.  However, he has been wavering for a long time, and there have rumblings in recent weeks about Oregon and Ohio State potentially stealing him away.  Oregon has yet to offer, but the Buckeyes swept in with an offer recently and Conley visited Ohio Stadium for last Saturday's face-off between Michigan and OSU.

There is still a chance that Conley will re-commit to Michigan, and the fact that he gave some forewarning to Michigan's coaches puts him in a different light than kids like Pharaoh Brown and David Dawson, who sneakily tried to visit Oregon and Florida, respectively.  However, it's fairly unusual - though not out of the question - for kids to re-commit to a school.  Usually it burns some bridges and causes some hurt feelings for one party or another, and sometimes it's better for the kid to go elsewhere and start somewhat fresh.

Michigan now has three cornerback commits in the class: Jourdan Lewis, Channing Stribling, and Ross Douglas.  The coaching staff is still angling for Seffner (FL) Armwood defensive back Leon McQuay III, who is more of a safety prospect but could also play slot corner.  It's also possible that the coaches send out new offers, perhaps to a kid like Trotwood (OH) Trotwood-Madison cornerback Reon Dawson, who is committed to Illinois but entertaining preliminary talks with Michigan.  Uncommitted cornerback prospects with Michigan offers also include Los Angeles (CA) Loyola's Cameron Walker, Tempe (AZ) Marcos De Niza's Priest Willis, and Long Beach (CA) Jordan's John Ross.  The coaches are aiming to pull in 25 total recruits, and this loss puts Michigan at 22, so there are three remaining slots in the class.

Gareon Conley, Wolverine

Massillon (OH) Washington's Gareon Conley is Michigan's newest commit
Massillon (OH) Washington cornerback Gareon Conley committed to Michigan on Saturday.  He chose the Wolverines over offers from Northwestern, Toledo, and West Virginia.

Conley is 6'2" and 165 lbs.  As a junior in 2011, he made 26 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 4 interceptions.  He also had 3 receptions for 10 yards, 3 punt returns for 39 yards, and 4 kickoff returns for 142 yards.

Ratings:
ESPN: Unranked CB
Rivals: Unranked ATH
Scout: 4-star CB, #20 CB, #227 overall
247 Sports: 3-star CB, 88 grade

Conley was offered by Michigan in mid-February and the word out of Massillon was that he would be a Wolverine - it was just a matter of when.  Even though the Wolverines have zero other commitments at the boundary corner position, it's quite possible that Conley saw all the other commitments going down and wanted to hop on the train before it got full.  The coaches likely want to take two or three total corners in this class.

Conley is listed as being 6'1" or 6'2" on all the recruiting sites, and he's a long, lanky kid.  He has good speed but he's not lightning fast.  He does accelerate pretty well for a kid with such long legs, and it's going to be hard to beat him over the top because of his speed and length.  His wingspan will allow him to jam receivers at the line and reach around receivers to tip away passes without having to interfere with the offensive player.

My concerns with Conley are twofold.  First of all, how quickly will he be able to add weight?  He's very thin at his height and only 165 lbs.  Michigan is lacking in big corners, so much so that incoming freshman Jarrod Wilson might get a shot to play cornerback instead of free safety.  J.T. Floyd will have graduated by the time Conley arrives, so that will leave Raymon Taylor as the only sizable cornerback; Blake Countess, Delonte Hollowell, and Terry Richardson are all small-ish field corner types, although Countess could probably play the boundary if necessary.  This goes hand-in-hand with Conley's size questions, but will he become more aggressive with added size?  There are times in his highlights where he seems afraid of contact.  He's tentative when tackling, tries to drag guys to the ground, and shies away from contact when running the ball.

Overall, Conley is a very good athlete whose mentality and aggression need to catch up to the rest of what he has to offer.  Once he adds the necessary weight and strength, he should improve as a tackler and run supporter.  I have never seen a kid come to Michigan and fail to add weight; it's just a matter of how quickly that can happen for him.  But if he doesn't become a more physical player, he will have a hard time seeing the field.

Massillon Washington is the alma mater of former Michigan linebacker Shawn Crable and former Michigan cornerback (late of Scottsdale Community College) Justin Turner.
