Dallas Crawford (#4)

S/LB Isaiah Bell: Bell, now a defensive end, had 3 tackles and 1 sack in Lake Erie's 50-32 win over Tiffin. Lake Erie ends the year with a record of 4-7. Bell ends the year with 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery returned 97 yards for a touchdown.

TE Pharaoh Brown: Brown had 2 catches for 42 yards and 1 kickoff return for 5 yards in Oregon's 44-21 win over Utah.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez and his Arizona Wildcats suffered a 24-17 loss to Washington State and fell to 6-4 on the year. Running back Ka'Deem Carey had 26 rushes for 132 yards and 1 touchdown.

CB Dallas Crawford: Crawford had a great individual performance with 19 carries for 115 yards and 3 catches for 48 yards, but Miami was upset by the Duke Blue Devils in a 48-30 game.

S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien had 3 tackles in Toledo's 51-41 win over Buffalo.

K Anthony Fera: Fera was 1/1 on extra points and 2/2 on field goals (from 39 and 27 yards), but Texas lost to Oklahoma State by a score of 38-13.

K Matt Goudis: Goudis was 3/3 on extra points and 3/3 on field goals (from 32, 32, and 31 yards), but Miami lost to Duke by a score of 48-30.

S Carvin Johnson: Johnson had 16 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in Hampton's 42-12 loss to Bethune-Cookman.

WR Jerald Robinson: Robinson had 2 catches for 22 yards and 1 touchdown in Walsh University's 49-28 loss to Findlay. Walsh ends the year with a record of 3-8. On the season, Robinson led the team in all categories with 38 catches for 499 yards and 7 touchdowns.

S Marvin Robinson: Robinson had 5 tackles and 3 pass breakups in Ferris State's 35-22 victory over Northern Michigan.

WR Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes had 3 catches for 27 yards in Norfolk State's 24-13 loss to North Carolina Central.

Defensive coordinator Greg Robinson is helping out a Texas team that was thought to be sliding downward.

TE Pharaoh Brown: Brown had 1 catch for 18 yards in Oregon's 45-24 victory over Washington.

K Anthony Fera: Fera was 3/3 on field goals, including makes of 50, 43, and 31 yards. He was also 3/4 on extra points with the fourth attempt being blocked. His Texas Longhorns beat Oklahoma by a score of 36-20.

Linebackers coach Jay Hopson: Hopson's Alcorn State team moved to 5-2 after a 48-0 destruction of Grambling. The team rushed for 288 yards and passed for another 254

S Carvin Johnson: Johnson had 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup in Hampton's 31-26 victory over North Carolina A&T. That's Hampton's first win of the year.

LB Mike Jones: Jones had 14 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, .5 sacks, and 1 pass breakup in Western Michigan's 33-0 loss to Buffalo. Western is 0-7 on the season, but Jones is having a decent year with 63 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 1 pass breakup.

Defensive coordinator Greg Robinson: Don't look now, but Greg Robinson - recently hired as Texas's defensive coordinator - helped the Longhorns to their 36-20 upset win over Oklahoma. Oklahoma managed just 263 total yards and quarterback Blake Bell got picked off twice, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

WR Jerald Robinson: Robinson had 3 catches for 33 yards and 1 touchdown in Walsh University's 38-28 win over Malone. He now has 24 catches for 306 yards and 5 touchdowns on the year.

S Marvin Robinson: Robinson started at safety and had 5 tackles in Ferris State's 54-44 win over Grand Valley State.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez: Arizona fell to 3-2 after a 38-31 loss to USC. The Wildcats were down 28-3 at one point, but they recovered to make it a one-score game. Quarterback B.J. Denker had a career day with 363 yards and 4 touchdowns through the air.

WR Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes had 1 catch for 8 yards in Norfolk State's 14-7 loss to Delaware State.

CB Dallas Crawford: Crawford had 5 carries for 31 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus a 6-yard reception and 1 tackle, in Miami's 45-30 win over Georgia Tech.

WR Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes had 2 catches for 19 yards and 1 carry for 2 yards in Norfolk State's 26-24 win over Savannah State.

DE Isaiah Bell: Bell, who started at defensive end for Lake Erie College, had a big game for the Storm. He had 2 tackles, 1 sack, forced 1 fumble, and returned it 97 yards for a touchdown. Lake Erie beat Wayne State by a score of 35-17.

CB Dallas Crawford: Crawford, now a running back for the Miami Hurricanes, had a big game this week. He had 5 carries for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground, along with 1 catch for a 5-yard touchdown. And that wasn't even against the backups - Crawford scored the first, fourth, and sixth touchdowns of the day. Miami beat Bethune Cookman by a score of 77-0.

S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien had 2 tackles as a backup safety in Toledo's 38-17 victory over Central Michigan.

K Matt Goudis: Goudis was 11/11 on extra points in Miami's 77-0 victory over Bethune Cookman.

S Carvin Johnson: Johnson had 9 tackles and 1 pass breakup, but Hampton lost to Coastal Carolina by a score of 50-17.

LB Mike Jones: Jones had 7 tackles in Western Michigan's 59-3 loss to Iowa.

S/LB Isaiah Bell: Bell is a 6'2", 252 lb. linebacker at Lake Erie College, which opens its season this coming Saturday against Gannon. Last year he had 7 tackles as a backup linebacker and special teamer.

CB Cullen Christian: Christian, who transferred to Pitt after his 2010 freshman season, had 1 tackle as a backup free safety in the Panthers' 41-13 loss to Florida State.

CB Dallas Crawford: Crawford, now a running back for the Miami Hurricanes, had 2 carries for 6 yards and 1 touchdown in a 34-6 victory over Florida Atlantic.

S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien had 2 tackles in Toledo's 24-6 loss to Florida.

WR/TE Ricardo Miller: Miller graduated from Michigan and transferred to UMass, where he started Saturday's game against Wisconsin after the player ahead of him got injured prior to the season. Miller has 2 catches for 22 yards in the 45-0 loss.

QB Kevin Newsome: Newsome, who de-committed in favor of Penn State during his recruitment, ended up as a wide receiver, then H-back, then running back at Temple. He chose to quit football after graduating this summer and is no longer on the Owls' roster.

WR Dewayne Peace: Peace was declared academically ineligible at Houston for the 2013 season and entered the NFL's supplemental draft, where he went undrafted (along with every other prospect who was available). Now he will presumably attempt to continue his professional football career in some fashion.

WR Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes, now at Norfolk State, had 2 catches for 24 yards in a 23-6 loss to Maine. In kind of a neat story, the second pass he caught was from his younger brother Malik.

S Ray Vinopal: Now Pitt's starting free safety, Vinopal had 9 tackles in the loss to FSU.

CB Adrian Witty: Witty, who starts at free safety for Cincinnati, had 2 tackles and 1 interception returned 41 yards for a touchdown in a 42-7 win over Purdue. You can see that pick and return starting at about 2:59 in the video at the top.

Ex-Wolverine updates: Pre-Season Edition

This used to be Cullen Christian.

TE Chris Barnett: Barnett left Michigan shortly after arriving in 2011, and I have been unable to find any hard updates on him. He supposedly showed interest in playing for UMass this past winter, but he never enrolled there. He also talked about having interest in playing Division II as a middle linebacker.

CB Greg Brown: Brown had transferred to Findlay, but never played a game there in 2012. He has since left the football program and his whereabouts are unknown to me.

TE Pharaoh Brown: Brown is listed as a 6'6", 241 lb. tight end on Oregon's roster. He had 2 receptions for 42 yards in twelve games last season. Oregon has been talking about using more formations with two tight ends to get Brown on the field with Colt Lyerla.

CB Cullen Christian: After having 16 tackles and 2 pass breakups as a corner in 2012, Christian is now listed as a 6'0", 195 lb. backup free safety for the Pitt Panthers. The starter? Former Michigan free safety Ray Vinopal.

CB Gareon Conley: Conley is listed as a 6'2", 170 lb. cornerback on Ohio State's roster. He has been practice some with the starting unit while Bradley Roby has been demoted to a backup for his off-the-field transgressions.

CB Dallas Crawford: Crawford is listed as a 5'10", 196 lb. redshirt sophomore running back on Miami's roster. Last year he had an interception on a fake punt; offensively, he had 6 carries for 23 yards and was 1/2 passing for 29 yards. He will likely be the backup running back to starter Duke Johnson.

S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien is listed as a 6'1", 204 lb. safety for the Toledo Rockets. Last year he had 33 tackles and 1 interception for the Rockets. He will likely start this year at their strong safety/outside linebacker hybrid position.

OT Jake Fisher: Fisher is a 6'6", 291 lb. offensive tackle for Oregon. Last year he was the starter at right tackle, and he even scored a touchdown when De'Anthony Thomas fumbled into the endzone, where Fisher jumped on it.

K Matt Goudis: Goudis is listed as a 6'0", 172 lb. redshirt sophomore kicker for the Miami Hurricanes. Last year he had a 37-yard punt and two kickoffs that averaged 55.0 yards.

S Carvin Johnson: Johnson is listed as a 6'2", 205 lb. safety for Hampton University. Last year he had 57 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, and 3 fumble recoveries. He will likely start this fall.

LB Kellen Jones: Jones is listed as a 6'1", 225 lb. linebacker for Clemson. After leaving Michigan before his freshman season even began, he transferred to Oklahoma for the 2011 season, then sat out the 2012 year after transferring to Clemson, and will now be a backup inside linebacker for the Tigers.

WR Ricardo Miller: Miller is listed as a 6'4", 226 lb. tight end/wide receiver for UMass. With the starting tight end injured to begin the year, Miller will start at TE for the Minutemen.

DE Chris Rock: Rock is listed as a 6'4", 272 lb. defensive lineman for Ohio State after enrolling there in August 2012. Listed as a redshirt sophomore, he is not expected to be a heavy contributor this fall.

QB Kevin Sousa: Sousa is listed as a 6'3", 230 lb. redshirt sophomore quarterback for Wake Forest, but he not listed as one of the top three quarterbacks on the Demon Deacons' depth chart.

OG Caleb Stacey: Stacey transferred to the College of Mount St. Joseph during winter semester and intended to play football this fall. Their roster has not been released, so it's unclear if he's still on the team.

CB Anthony Standifer: Standifer is listed as a 6'1", 175 lb. cornerback on the Ole Miss roster. A blogger for the Rebels ranked him as the #57 most important player for the upcoming season. He had 3 tackles last year.

WR Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes is listed as a 6'0", 200 lb. wideout for Norfolk State, an FCS program. He joins younger brother Malik, a quarterback. Stokes played the last couple seasons at Bowling Green State University.

S Ray Vinopal: Vinopal is a 5'10", 200 lb. starting free safety for the Pitt Panthers. He had 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a redshirt sophomore in 2012.

CB Adrian Witty: Witty is listed as a 5'10", 187 lb. cornerback for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He had 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and a forced fumble last year. It appears he's the front-runner for the starting free safety job this fall.

Former Michigan cornerback Cullen Christian: Christian had 2 tackles in Pitt's 38-17 loss to Ole Miss in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Former Michigan running back Sam McGuffie: McGuffie had 5 receptions for 80 yards in Rice's 33-14 victory over Air Force in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl.  He ends the season with 54 catches, 603 yards, and 5 touchdowns, along with 5 carries for 16 yards.

Former Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez ended the year with a 49-48 win in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.  Running back Ka'Deem Carey (1,929 rushing yards, 23 touchdowns) ends the year as the FBS leader in rushing yards.  In true Rich Rodriguez fashion, the Wildcats finished #117 in passing defense and #118 in total defense, but they still went 8-5.

Former Michigan wide receiver Je'Ron Stokes: Stokes had 1 carry for 1 yard in Bowling Green's 29-20 loss to San Jose State in the Military Bowl.  He ended the season with 15 catches for 114 yards and 1 carry for 1 yard.

Former Michigan safety Ray Vinopal: Vinopal had 1 tackle in Pitt's 38-17 loss to Ole Miss in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Former Michigan RB Michael Cox: Cox had 30 carries for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns in UMass's 27-16 loss to Miami-OH two Saturdays ago. This week he had 22 carries for 80 yards in a 37-34 loss to Ohio. On the season, he has 90 carries for 376 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Former Michigan S Vladimir Emilien: Emilien had 3 tackles, .5 tackles for loss, and 1 interception in Toledo's 37-17 victory over Western Michigan.

Former Michigan RB commit Demetrius Hart: Hart had 1 carry for 7 yards and 1 catch for 12 yards in Alabama's 33-14 victory over Ole Miss.  Unfortunately, he tore his ACL for the second time and will miss the rest of the season.

Former Michigan RB Sam McGuffie: McGuffie had 6 catches for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns, but Rice lost to Houston by a score of 35-14.  One of those touchdowns was an 88-yard catch-and-run.  He now has 22 receptions for 303 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Former Michigan WR/CB commit Dewayne Peace: Peace had 1 reception for 16 yards in Houston's 35-14 victory over Rice.  He now has 24 receptions for 273 yards and 1 touchdown.

Former Michigan TE/DE commit Pharaoh Brown: Brown had 1 catch for 26 yards as Oregon beat Tennessee Tech by a score of 63-14.  He has 2 receptions for 42 yards on the season.

Former Michigan CB commit Demar Dorsey: Dorsey and former Michigan LB commit Antonio Kinard are both on Western Arizona Community College's football roster.  Dorsey was supposed to head to Hawaii and Kinard was supposed to be at Miami by now, but both have run into academic and/or legal issues.  Western Arizona CC is a repository of former high school talent, including former USC wide receiver Markeith Ambles and former South Carolina quarterback Tanner McEvoy.

Former Michigan OT commit Jake Fisher: Fisher jumped on a De'Anthony Thomas fumble in the end zone after Thomas caught a pass at Tennessee Tech's 49-yard line and almost scored himself.  It was Fisher's first career touchdown, which is probably an obvious statement.

Former Michigan RB commit Dee Hart: Hart had 4 runs for 21 yards as Alabama beat Arkansas by a score of 52-0.

Former Michigan S Carvin Johnson: Johnson had 5 tackles and 2 pass breakups, but Hampton lost to Florida A&M by a score of 44-20.

Former Michigan RB Sam McGuffie: McGuffie did not have a good day on Saturday, as he had 1 rush for -5 yards, 1 catch for -3 yards, and 2 kickoff returns for 25 yards.  Rice lost to Louisiana Tech by a score of 56-37.

Former Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez's Arizona team upset #18 Oklahoma State by a score of 59-28.  His offense put up 501 yards, which was 135 fewer than OSU . . . but his defense came up with 3 interceptions.  The Wildcats are 2-0 on the year.

Former Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez won his first game as Arizona's head coach, a 24-17 victory over Toledo in overtime.  The Wildcats had 624 total yards of offense.

Former Michigan WR Je'ron Stokes: Stokes, now playing for Bowling Green State University, had 4 receptions for 32 yards in BGSU's 27-14 loss to the Florida Gators.

Former Michigan S Ray Vinopal: Vinopal, a current teammate of Christian at Pitt, had 3 tackles in the 31-17 loss to Youngstown State.

Ex-Wolverine Updates: The Class of 2009

Shavodrick Beaver (pictured here in his days at Tulsa) is now at Midwestern State, which is a real place.

Former Michigan quarterback commit Shavodrick Beaver sat out the 2011 season after transferring from Tulsa to Midwestern State, which is in Beaver's hometown of Wichita Falls, Texas.  Midwestern State's starting quarterback, Brandon Kelsey, had 1,951 yards passing and 967 yards rushing.  Beaver will be a redshirt junior at MSU in fall 2012.

Former Michigan safety Vladimir Emilien sat out the 2011 after transferring from Michigan to Toledo.  He does not appear on the Rockets' roster, but has confirmed that he's at Toledo and will be a redshirt junior in fall 2012.

Former Michigan kicker commit Anthony Fera was 14/17 on field goals for Penn State this season with a long of 46 yards.  He also punted 64 times, averaging 42 yards, and handled the kickoff duties.

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier transferred to San Jose State this past season and seemed to be in line for the starting quarterback job next fall.  However, he left SJSU in recent weeks due to "personal and financial reasons" and his career might be over.

Former Michigan defensive tackle commit Pearlie Graves left Texas Tech in late September.  He was reportedly transferring, but has not reappeared elsewhere, as far as I know.

Former Michigan running back and cornerback Teric Jones left the program last offseason due to a knee injury.  He remains a student at the University of Michigan.

Former Michigan defensive tackle commit DeQuinta Jones finished his junior year at Arkansas.  He played in all 13 games, making 19 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 sack.

Former Michigan defensive end Anthony Lalota transferred to Rutgers, but has since quit football altogether.  He practiced at tight end with the Scarlet Knights.

Former Michigan wide receiver commit Bryce McNeal caught 1 pass for 8 yards at Clemson in 2011 before transferring.  He is now at UConn and will be eligible in fall 2012 because he already had his bachelor's degree.

Former Michigan quarterback commit Kevin Newsome left Penn State after being buried on the depth chart behind Matt McGloin and Rob Bolden.  He has not yet announced a transfer destination.

Former Michigan wide receiver commit Dewayne Peace is now at Houston after leaving Arizona because of legal troubles.  He spent 2010 at Blinn Community College (made famous by Cam Newton).  Peace started one game for the Cougars in 2011 and played in 11 total games, making 13 catches for 105 yards (8.1 yards per catch) and 0 touchdowns.

Former Michigan wide receiver Je'Ron Stokes left Michigan this past season and transferred to Bowling Green State University, where his brother Malik will be a redshirt freshman quarterback in 2012.  Je'Ron will be a redshirt junior and eligible to play for the Falcons this coming season.

Former Michigan cornerback Justin Turner left Michigan in 2010 and transferred to Scottsdale (AZ) Community College to play football in 2011.  He played 11 games there and made 47 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 3 interceptions, 17 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries.  Here are his highlights from Scottsdale Community College.  He is committed to play for Hawaii in 2012, where he will be a redshirt junior.

Former Michigan cornerback signee Adrian Witty played in 12 games for Cincinnati in 2011 as a backup cornerback and special teamer.  He made 15 tackles, broke up 1 pass, and forced 1 fumble.  He will be a redshirt sophomore this coming fall.

Former quarterback commit Shavodrick Beaver was going to sit out the upcoming season as an academic redshirt at Tulsa, but instead he decided to transfer to Midwestern State, a school in his hometown of Wichita Falls.  Beaver was a part of the 2009 class until the December prior to National Signing Day.

Former Michigan running back Sam McGuffie had 1 carry for 4 yards in a 34-9 loss to Texas.  McGuffie had a leg injury and the coaches didn't want him to worsen the injury.

Former Michigan safety/linebacker Brandon Smith is no longer on the roster at Temple.

Former Michigan wide receiver Je'ron Stokes is transferring to Bowling Green State University.  His younger brother Malik is a redshirt freshman quarterback for the Falcons.

2011 Countdown: #41 Je'Ron Stokes

Last year: I ranked Stokes #42 and said he'd have a dozen catches as a backup wide receiver.  He had 1 catch for 11 yards.

I overestimated Stokes' usefulness a little bit last year, a season in which he had exactly one reception.  He tied for 12th on the team in receptions, and Michigan only lost five of their 243 receptions from a season ago (all five coming from tight end Martell Webb).  So there are still ten guys left who had more productive seasons catching the ball.

When Stokes is out on the field, he doesn't look bad.  He's not particularly slow or particularly short.  It seems like the quarterbacks just have better chemistry with the other wideouts.  With three seniors (Junior Hemingway, Martavious Odoms, and Darryl Stonum if he gets his life in order) and the team's leading receiver (Roy Roundtree) returning here in 2011, things aren't looking good for Stokes in the near future.  He probably won't be targeted much again this season, which gives him one year to shine before running out of eligibility.  The clock is ticking.

Roundtree was the obvious choice here, since he's Michigan's reigning receiving champ.  He had 72 receptions for 935 yards and 7 touchdowns a year ago and made the media's All-Big Ten second team.  But this spring was a bit of an eye-opener, I think, because he wasn't the star of the show.  Roundtree was often running with the second team offense and, although nobody else caught more, he only had 1 catch (for 12 yards) in the spring game.

Hemingway was the obvious #2 choice here, too.  He was Michigan's third-leading receiver last season, grabbing 32 passes for 593 yards and 4 touchdowns.  While his number of receptions was well below those of the top two guys last year (72 for Roundtree, 49 for Stonum), he averaged over 18 yards a catch, compared to their combined 13 yards per reception.  Hemingway is the more prototypical wideout for Michigan (a big leaper with so-so speed), but he's missed time in each of the last three seasons due to injury.

Je'Ron Stokes was a bit of a surprise to finish third in the voting.  I would have expected Odoms or Stonum ahead of him.  Stokes only has 3 catches for 27 yards in his first two seasons.  The new coaching staff could bring with it a new pecking order, but I think Stokes is a bench player until the four senior receivers depart.

Odoms has progressively lost ground since his freshman year, going from 443 yards in 2008 to 272 yards in 2009 to 241 yards in 2010.  Part of that loss of production last season was due to missing six games because of injury.  He's small at only 5'8" and 175 lbs., but his willingness to block might propel him to a starting role.  As long as he stays healthy, I would guess he'll see an uptick in yardage this coming season.  But he hasn't led the team in receiving since his freshman year, and I doubt that's going to change.

Stonum is going to have a difficult time digging himself out of the hole that he created for himself.  He's been in trouble with the law on multiple occasions, and his Michigan career is in jeopardy because of it.  He's currently in limbo on "indefinite suspension" and should miss at least a couple games.  Punishing kids for breaking the law ought to come in the form of missed playing time during the year, not in the offseason.

Dileo, Koger, Robinson, and Smith probably aren't viable options.  I figured I would throw them up there just in case a good number of people expected something I didn't, but voters' thoughts seem to be mostly in line with mine.  Kudos to the one person who voted for Vincent Smith, though.  Dare to be different.
