2009 Countdown: #56 James Rogers

Name: James Rogers
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 182 lbs.
High School: Lamphere High School in Madison Heights, MI
Position: Wide receiver
Class: Junior
Jersey Number: #18
2008 statistics: 3 catches, 64 yards, 2 tackles on special teams
Prediction for 2009: Backup wide receiver, special teams contributor

Personally, I think Rogers has got a raw deal so far in his Michigan career. Carr's staff allowed him to burn his redshirt in 2007, playing him on special teams and sparingly at cornerback. Then Rodriguez moved him to wide receiver in 2008, where he caught 3 passes for 64 yards (a 21.3 yard average) but could barely get any snaps. Perhaps he has attitude issues I don't know of, but he's performed well when given the opportunity. He's not going to make many people miss, but he does have good speed and seemingly good hands. Hopefully Michigan can take advantage of his talents this season.

  1. Why would we not keep him at DB? We have a ton of WR and any DB over 6 foot is special. Even keeping him at DB just to play again tall WR in the red zone makes sense. Why waste that for a 7th WR?

  2. I don't really have an answer for that. I guess the coaches just thought he's a better WR than CB.

  3. He is one of the fastest kids on the team. He ran the fastest shuttle time in spring, he has great hands. I played high school ball with him, he can catch anything. Again, Michigan is known for not playing kids that could make a difference, he is a natural born athlete.

  4. yah he sucks the only reason he was good because the rest of his high school football team didnt know how to play. it made him look good because he was the only one who really did anything on field

This seems like sour grapes. Did Madison beat you in high school? Was Rogers ahead of you on the depth chart or something?
