Help Wanted: Moving Away from Blogger

I'm attempting to move away from Blogger/Blogspot in the hopes of expanding the site and giving it a little more freedom to grow.  However, since I'm not extremely internet savvy (and have a couple other jobs on the side), I would appreciate any suggestions on where to move the site.  I've heard a lot of people use Wordpress, but I've also heard some not-so-good things about Wordpress.

If you have any suggestions (or if you think I should just stay right here), then please leave them in the comments or drop me an e-mail.

Thanks!

  1. Google is a very good site to use and it is very easy. Let me know if you need any help.

What is this "google" you speak of? Can I find it by searching on Yahoo?

  3. Wordpress is the way to go. It's easy to update and expand upon, especially if you have someone who knows how to extend it.

  4. Wordpress doesn't pay you for whatever ads they put on your site. I'm pretty sure blogspot does the same thing though, so I don't know if that's an issue for you. If you have any idea how many people read your blog per month and it's enough to profit, it might be wise to get your own website.

The comments have some good detail as well.

In short, it seems Wordpress is more "professional" and if that's the direction you are going, it's probably the way to go (assuming it works for you in terms of your technical abilities) IF it works for your financially. Here's a note that helps expand on Tim's comments:

"In a nutshell no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted WordPress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.COM

The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.
