I'm of two minds about the linked story ... either Hoke really is maturing as a big program coach, or he's simply saying stuff to keep the critics at bay as long as he can.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think it's the former. But I'm not convinced of it. But if so, then perhaps we are seeing the program turning the corner. This coming season will show what's real and what's just talk.
The linked story seems to imply that something else has changed between last year and this. Sometimes I wonder about the influence -- positive or negative -- of Taylor Lewan. He never struck me as the same kind of senior influence that Molk or Martin was. Good left tackle, but perhaps not the kind of person that wanted the role of "leader" of the line or the team. I myself don't know ... I'm just wondering out loud whether that may have been a contributing factor.
I totally agree with your comments on Lewan. I was never a fan of him in a leadership role. There was just something about him, especially in his interviews, that rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed to say the right things; however, always seemed to lack conviction in what he was saying.
DeleteThis makes me think quite a bit less of Hoke. Double digit wins and 2-1 against our rivals may help change that. Hoke needs to take a page out of coach B's book and "win the game".
ReplyDeleteIf he noticed it why didn't he do something about it? Reactive is always the losers way of dealing with issues instead of taking a proactive approach. I respect Hoke for his love of the university, but I still don't think he's the right man for the job.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there some research done that basically debunked the idea of "chemistry"? Same thing with "distractions". Stop making excuses and win the damn game. God, I hope Hoke saves his money.
