  3. I spent an hour at the Indianapolis camp this morning. Brandon Peters really looks the part. I'm looking forward to watching him in Ann Arbor. Yes, the program is getting tons of visibility out of these camps, but the real winners were the kids. Most of them may never have the chance to spend several hours getting instruction from a major college staff again. All of the coaches were vocal and very hands-on.

    1. Oh, so it's very helpful for the kids? Can't have it. We're not all about that.

  5. I can see why SEC coaches are mad at this, but this sure is good for the program. I bet a few more commits before this wraps in Detroit.

  6. I thought there were two camps in Florida.

  7. Thunder, what do you think about Devin Gil?

    1. I'm not super high on Gil. He looks like an outside linebacker to me, the kind of guy that Rich Rodriguez would have wanted to play as a box safety. Hard hitter, but somewhat stiff and lacking speed.

  8. Thunder, right the the Elite 11 semifinals are going on and I was curious what your thoughts are on Trent Dilfer's ability to identify talent.

    1. I'm not sure how long Dilfer has been the head of Elite 11's evaluations, but I think he got a bit of a bad rap among Michigan fans simply because he wasn't fond of Shane Morris a few years ago. And we've seen how that has worked out for Morris so far. Looking through the Elite 11 names over the past several years, it's not exactly a Who's Who of college quarterbacks. Maybe it's just the nature of the beast, but for every Jameis Winston (Elite 11 MVP in 2011), there are numerous flops.

Regarding Dilfer himself, he was a very good college quarterback, a high NFL draft pick, a long-time NFL player, and won a Super Bowl. People might argue that the defense carried him to that Super Bowl, but I don't really care. Lots of teams have had very good defenses, and they don't all win Super Bowls. He was no Tom Brady or Joe Montana, but he held it together at the highest levels.

Overall, I just think camps are a crappy way to judge quarterbacks. I truly think the only positions that shine through in a camp setting are wide receiver and cornerback, because physicality is not really an issue at those positions and neither is field awareness so much. The quarterback position is a spot where a guy can look great throwing the ball around the field without having to worry about that edge blitz, or the guy dropping out in a zone blitz, that defensive tackle pushing the center back in his face, the play clock, the game situation, etc.

Does Dilfer seem great at identifying talented quarterbacks who can get the job done on Saturdays and Sundays? No, not really. But in some ways, that's not really his job. His job is essentially to see who looks the prettiest when throwing the ball with no rush, no pads on, in nice weather, etc. When it comes to evaluating quarterbacks, I think the only thing that matters is game film.

    2. He recently said that DeWeaver had limitless potential and the sky was the limit for him when selecting him for the Elite 11 which seems to go against what most here have said regarding his low ceiling compared to Peters.

  9. Thunder, what's your opinion on the newly offered Terrell Lucas
