Someone with available time (and the interest) needs to do a study of Rivals 100/250 trajectories. Do the recruits of some schools drop more than those of others? If you're committed/uncommitted, what are your odds of rising/falling in the rankings?
ReplyDeleteThat study would be next to useless. They do the initial rankings pretty early. As new players perform well at camps, there are undoubtedly going to be drops solely to make space for the newly "discovered" players. I would bet every school has similar drops to Michigan.

I think you're ignoring the (very real) possibility that some players with high early rankings might improve their profiles (at least as far as college coaches are concerned).
DeleteHow realistic is it that so many of Michigan's players have failed to hold their rankings? (And, yes, I'd guess it's the same for most other schools.)
I'd expect _some_ guys to fall ... just not so many.
I understand that. Derrick Green started off ranked in the 200's or outside of the rivals 250 when they came out with their initial rankings. He rose up to be a 5 star.
DeleteOndre Pipkins was in a similar situation. I think he was ranked outside of the 250 and then came back to be a 5 star.
I wouldn't really say any of these guys "failed." Michael ferns dropped the most, and he's still at #128.
When these kids DROP in the rankings, it's not like they're dropping 100 spots because they committed to Michigan. Usually there are some good reasons. Poor camp performances, missing most of your senior season with mono (Shane Morris), or a plethora of other reasons. I really don't think there is some kind of conspiracy.
Unless something terrible happens, Peppers will finish in the top 10. Of all the tape I've watched I can only think of a couple players better than him.
