Rob Cassidy and Rivals identified the winners and losers from National Signing Day, including Michigan in the loser category (
LINK).
Personally, I think it's a harsh judgment, but perhaps that's the national perception. Harbaugh came in late and took a shot at some big-time prospects, such as Iman Marshall. I don't think you can call Michigan a loser for swinging and missing at Marshall, who ended up signing with USC like everyone always thought. Ultimately, Michigan flipped several guys, including two from Power 5 conferences (Karan Higdon from Iowa, Keith Washington from Cal) on NSD itself. And that's not to mention landing two highly touted prospects in the afternoon, TE Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. and DE Shelton Johnson. It's not a superstar-heavy class by any means, but Michigan got some solid pieces.

It is a harsh judgement, frankly. We may not have gotten any top-flight recruits, but the main reason our class was ranked so low is that it was small, and since we gave out essentially all of the scholies we had available, it's hard to see how that's a failure. But the fact is that our average star rating is better than a lot of teams ranked above us, including more than a few in the top 25, and we had by far the highest ranked class of any team with this few signees.
ReplyDeleteLove to get your take on the new transfer qb John o'korne when you get a chance. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI plan to post something on O'Korn if that ever becomes official. I just want to be 100% sure it's happening before I spent an hour or two writing up a post.
DeleteDon't forget about Zach Gentry, who flipped from Texas.
