2012 Season Countdown: #83 Chris Eddins

Chris Eddins (#75) as a high schooler at Country Day
Name: Chris Eddins
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 265 lbs.
High school: Detroit (MI) Country Day
Position: Tight end
Class: Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number: 93
Last year: I did not rank Eddins.  He didn't see any game action.

Eddins was an all-state player in high school and was even ranked as a 2-star prospect (the #148 defensive tackle) by Scout, but he didn't receive any FBS scholarship offers and walked on at Michigan instead.  He joined the football team in 2010 but has not seen the field in either season since then.

That might change this year.  Eddins played defensive end for a couple seasons, but with the graduation of Kevin Koger and Steve Watson, pickings were slim at the tight end position.  During the spring, both Eddins and linebacker Jordan Paskorz switched to tight end for depth purposes.  The starter will likely be fifth year senior Brandon Moore, but Eddins, Paskorz, former walk-on Mike Kwiatkowski, and freshmen will compete for playing time.  Offensive coordinator Al Borges will likely forego some multiple tight end sets in favor of spread looks that Denard Robinson prefers, so Eddins won't be much of a receiving threat.  However, in goal line or short yardage situations, there's a possibility we might see Eddins and his 265 lbs. helping to plow the way.

Prediction: Emergency backup tight end in case of injury

  1. This guy might not play a lot, but I have noticed he gets a lot of camera time on the sidelines during games. He always seems to be near whoever the camera is focused on.
